@PlanetLevelDB Mafuba does not nullify magic. The only thing you can draw from mafuba scenes is 2 things. SSGSS Vegeta can't escape out of it, and neither could Zamasu. By context, it seems that all you can do is speak and watch because your entire physiology seems to alter in some way. Almost like you become like an ethereal spirit. It seems you can not take any meaningful action once you are developed in that light. The fact that it's described as a type of "seal" should heavily imply that. For you to prove that it does anything beyond that will be almost impossible unless you straight up asked Toriyama. I love this video, though. Bro, in their universe Ki is literally another form of magic, aka energy. I've read into it and basically the Evil Containment Wave is just locking them in a super-concentrated pokeball of Ki, aka Chi, aka Energy/Magic. They are just different versions of magic. Even the Destroyer Ki is just one shape of Energy. To elaborate on that, it's just different paths to enlightenment. Roshi works on his body, but also he works more on his spirit and his mind. His soul, so to speak. He might be stronger than most humans ever, but he is not like Goku and Vegeta. They have attained enlightenment through the body path. Babidi went all the way with soul but in an evil way. Same energy, just all being used differently.

Metamorians... Goku said the whole race wasn't worth a damn as fighters but they had "strange abilities", something he couldn't elaborate on. It's likely that it's because they are magic users as a race and Goku doesn't exactly know magic outside of his Nyoi bo - which he discarded. But the fact Gogeta is magical in nature due to the "Fusion Dance" is because it's an actual ritual. Just like in real life, if you botch a ritual at any point, you'll get a failed product. The dance itself is only part of the ritual because you also need to have someone increase or decrease their power level to be roughly the same as their mirrored counterpart - there are multiple parts to it that need to be done correctly or you'll end up with incorrect fusions, like the fat and old versions of Gogeta and Gotenks. But as for the Potara Earrings, they were "divine objects" meant for the Kaioushin - though surprisingly the Time Rings were considered magic-based because of the fact they appeared whenever a timeline was distorted and not a divine artifact that has been set in stone. Thus while "fusion" is a thing, it isn't magical like a ritual. It just happens as a force of nature kind of fusion with no backlash. So while Gogeta and Gotenks are magic-based, Vegito isn't a magic based fusion. Psychic users are also "magical" in nature - looking up the definition and examples given, they have extremely similar features. Psychic is just a off-shoot of magic. Funny thing about magic... Only magic users have performed feats that deal with dimension hopping or time stopping - meaning power doesn't matter. Mr. Popo - the genie who seals and stocks the room of Spirit and Time, Bibidi/Babidi literal space wizards that have shown to immediately swap people from one plane of existence to another, Buu who screams in anger and starts merging/shattering dimensional holds, Chiaotsu who is the only Z-fighter who can immobilize a target with his abilities as he creates a small pocket dimension around his opponent (although it can be over-powered if the opponent is strong enough), Guldo who can stop time and claimed to be unparalleled in his psychic abilities, he literally didn't use ki-based attacks at all. Hit who literally stores time in a pocket dimension, but unlike Chiaotsu, uses it to slip through time just a bit but it's a skill that he has to trigger - when he uses it on someone else like Goku or Jiren, it's the same as Chiaotsu; it can be overpowered if the opponent is stronger. Goku Black, who held the time ring and was confused how he could open a portal to another timeline and clone himself. Gotenks who mimicked Buu to get out of the Room of Spirit and Time. Gogeta who fought Broly and was confused when he and Broly clashed and they appeared in an alternate dimension - he had no idea how he triggered it, it was a complete accident. Literally time and space abilities are controlled by magic, not ki. You'd think that Jiren (who is a fighter) or a god of destruction or even Vegito could perform such feats with how strong they are, but none of them can do that. Which means all the spectactular feats are not because of how powerful someone is when it comes to their fighting or ki-potential... It's literally all done by magic. I got off on a tangent, but I wanted to explain why one fusion is magical and the other isn't.

What we consider as magic is unnatural to us, a force that allows its welders to perform certain feats we aren’t naturally able to. To us, if the fighters of DB existed in our world, they could be viewed as such because their power is something we can’t ever hope to obtain with our own real world training, but in their world, it’s natural to gain these abilities through different methods of training, so we in turn don’t view them as magical beings in their world. Magic in DB doesn’t always require some sort of ritual to be performed. Like Buu’s candy beam doesn’t require any special requirements to be used, just a desire at a given time by the technique’s user. Some forms of magic require rituals, but again, not all magic is bound by this idea. Vegito is formed by divine means, means that are unnatural to mortals and can be viewed as magical because it is unnatural. The divine is unknown, mystical, abnormal, magical and unnatural to what we know which is natural. Even Vegito’s feat is unnatural, being able to act normally as a piece of candy is unnatural and unexpected by the one who used magic to change him. It’s not even about power, it’s simply stated to be a unique ability Vegito could preform (again, him being the first mortal potara fusion is the series, it’s not unlikely that statement made at that time is strictly bound to Vegito). As for rituals, the Potara follows a simple one; for two beings to wear one earring on the opposite side of the other. Again, it’s not complicated, but it’s still qualifiable as one. And they follow current rules, that once the fusion is complete, if you’re a mortal, then it will only last an hour unless you’re power lessens that time. If you’re a Kai, then the fusion is permanent unless you use the power of the Dragons Balls to wish to be defused (the Namekian Dragon Balls were used for this, so for the case of lesser gods like the Kais, their power can be surpassed by mortals, along with their creations. One form of mortal magic can overcome the divine through a power difference, which made Bibidi’s creation of Buu such big threats to them). Same for the God forms of Super, though training is able to grant a mortal race these forms, it’s only through the training of the divine that Goku and Vegeta could achieve this level and go even beyond it. However, unnatural beings like Frieza, Gohan, Trunks, Broly and others were able to match and even surpass the power that Goku and Vegeta had gained through their divine training. These mortals are considered unique or unnatural beings who can challenge the divine through natural means. Despite the power Goku and Vegeta have gained, they are still mortals, tied to the natural and only use the unnatural power they obtained for their own mortal purposes while the gods use that same power for higher means to keep balance in their own universe. Some mortals can become gods/divine beings like The Destroyers and The Angels, but once they obtain their positions, they are bound to the laws of the divine and have to put their once mortal desires aside for the sake of balance or suffer the consequences for breaking their oaths. In other words, Vegito is a magical being because of the forces that allowed him to exist, the Potara are the creations of the divine for the purpose of fusion if required or desired. Metamoran Fusion is also magical in nature because it was developed by a mortal race that developed unnatural techniques, so even the mortals are capable of such things, it’s just to a lesser degree than the divine, the truly magical. There’s a reason that the Super Dragon Balls are the most powerful, the mortals created their own versions, but some level of the divine perfected the concept.

I feel like him merging with Kami should have given him a much wider toolkit when it comes to magic.

The issue with this is the buu issue. When a character can one hit everyone, say by turning them into chocolate and ignoring power gaps, you can't use them in any fight with stakes, as it removes any tension. A magical piccolo would be sidelined even harder than he is now and buu is the living proof of it.

Roshi also had some immortal phoenix according to early DB. But that phoenix died of food poisoning. I think roshi just stacked a lot of different ways to be immortal. By the definition of magic in the video this clearly fits the bill. I would say it's more comparable to the mafuba than Kamehameha or Galick gun

I just looked it up, Goku got hit with the beam twice, one was a weaker version of the attack, and then he got hit again with a stronger version that did absolutley nothing which I find very hilarious.
