DEFINATELY the resale value. And that wasn't offroading. It was a smooth easy hard ramp and it barely did that. I'd be shitting all over that off road in a Friggen 2wd morris minor, datsun 120y, Toyota corolla. Even the awesome daihatsu 360max with its 360cc two cylinder two stroke front wheel drive 31hp I had as a teenager. I kid you not. That daihatsu weighed 350kg, 220kg of which was on the front wheels I used to love driving it up 60degree banks, through mud holes, even over soft sand dunes even on its skinny little 10 inch road tyres. 😋 It did 80mph and 80mpg. Buy a Friggen Kei truck you twat. That thing has a range of 90miles when towing a caravan. And costs you 4 times as much as a Diesel Ram.

If all it takes is a software update to make it work the way it's meant to then that should have been included in the purchase price.

It is cheaper for Tesla to make one model that can do everything, and only sell you what you need (with the option of upgrading at any time), than to design 10 different models to meet every price point on the market. This price model is also incredibly favorable for the consumer. It boils down to “only pay for what you need.” If you dont use all the bells and whistles, you shouldn’t be responsible for paying the software engineers who develop them. Tesla seems to agree.

Think of it like Microsoft rolling out a new OS. Windows 11 for example. They unveil the alpha channel first which is the least finished meant for devs to tinker with. Then they release the beta channel which regular consumers can sign up for and test out the new windows OS and then finally they roll out the stable release and the alpha/beta users can freely update their system to the full stable release. Foundation in Tesla speak is basically cybertruck beta. Once the stable release comes out, they'll take the foundation series off sale and the people with foundation trucks will get a free update to the stable release

JDM? I’m in America. Thats all I care about. There could be all kinds of stuff done in other markets that doesn’t apply to here. What I didn’t have to google is the wrangler. No diff lock until 2003. Dead certain on that. You may be confusing the front axle disconnect that the YJ and older XJ used. Thats not a diff lock though that is in place of locking hubs. Regardless. The I’m sure the Cyber Truck uses E lockers. I remember a buddy had a Tacoma in the early 2,000s. 2wd with a manual and a e locker in the rear. That thing would go down some impressive desert trails out here. We had to give him a tow from time to time and he had to go ramming speed rather than pick his way through but it was pretty impressive. That was the first factory e locker I saw. I wouldn’t be surprised if Land Rovers had them sooner but I’ve never hung out with any of those weirdos after the one time.

chevy S10 ZR2 toyota Hilux tacoma HMMWV JEEP Land Cruiser Bronco ( like you said) are all much better then this refrigerator on wheels.

Buy really any used truck and put some money into it. It'll come out to 1/5 th the cost and be better. You can literally get an old tacoma, ranger mazda b-series, isuzu, or any of those old little trucks and put 15k into it and probably have a better truck by almost every single metric.

The LAST thing I want when offroading is my car to go a constant speed, because the trail is bumpy and may cause me to want to slow down at any time. Having to hit the brakes to slow down, rather than just releasing the throttle is inefficient and makes for a jerkier ride. In any case, I've observed on myself and many other drivers that cruise control reduces the alertness of your speed and increases the time you need to react when it comes to adjusting your speed!

@LRM12o8 you can still use the throttle to go faster than release back to the cruise control speed. Keep in mind I do that all the time in an ice Jeep. It is no different than putting it in low and manually selecting a gear to crawl. This makes up for the fact an ev does not need to be running, and you can not use the engine to apply braking or a constant push.

@chad1755 Yes, any car manufacturer that has Ota updates, which is most nowadays, would have the ability to add or remove functions. That is the whole point of the update, they are adding features or fixing bugs. And chevys 2.7 has 3 output versions of the same motor. The 2.7 turbo, 2.7 turbo plus, and 2.7 turbo high output. To think that the output isn't changing due to software is naive.

@@PDVism You are correct FSD is classified a level 2 system. From outward indications Tesla will not apply for 3 and maybe 4. This and other things makes using the levels to describe progress misleading. In most ways FSD is better than required for level 3. I don't see it as able to give the driver 10 seconds to take over. I am not sure if that is always possible without a much reduced speed. This is not a feature in level 5. The only working example of a level 3 system is Mercedes Drive Pilot. I will leave the evaluation of that up to you.

When Tesla says the bed is bigger, they are using bed volume not length, since the cybertruck bed goes all the way up to the roof in the back it makes the bed bigger on paper.

Single motor units(front motor on a tri-motor truck, or both front and rear on a dual motor truck)have a real physical electric locker built into the differential. For tri-motor trucks, there is no physical locker needed on the two rear drive units. They are just commanded to rotate locked in sync with each other to perform the same as a physical locker.

Electric vehicles are actually more waterproof than ice. An example is the recent flooding in Dubai showed ice vehicles dead from sucking in water and electric vehicles going through water over the hood since electrical drive components are sealed.

1. They didn't have to pay to unlock them, the Cybertruck had all the hardware from launch, but the software wasn't finished to turn them on... for some reason 2. As an engineer, software-locked hardware is... not unusual. Like BMW turns off features depending on what you pay for when you option it or what market you're in (and you can turn it back on with Bimmercode), or Ford disabling features which you can enable through Forscan... You throw everything on the vehicle during production to vastly simplify production (which decreases costs), then enable them later depending on what the user purchases.

Easy way to make more money without having to have different components for different trims. Not really, those japanese light trucks are functional trucks. This "device" of an automobile is compensation behaviour. If you get what i'm saying.
