I remember going to the Broken Spoke several times in the seventies when my dad a Texas Troubadour used to play with Ernest Tubb. I remember very well because my dad was fairly tall and he played his bass vertically which was a challenge with the low ceiling. My dad also played with the Wills brothers, Johnny Lee, and Bob. The place hasn’t changed at all like going back in time.

I went to the Broken Spoke in the 70s when I was stationed at Fort Hood. Nice place. I also went to the Split Rail, down the street a bit closer to the river. Way different, but quite the memorable experience. Wish I had gone to eh Armadillo, but never made it.

The Broken Spoke also makes a damn fine brisket too!
