Dr. Utley relates just before he was ordained and licensed to preach in the Southern Baptist denomination that he asked a lady to pray for him and he received nothing. From that I believe he has determined the gift of tongues is not for everyone. I think he was waiting for God to take his tongue and begin to shake it and make him speak. It doesn't happen that way. When I received many years ago I felt nothing when I was prayed for but I began to move my lips through my own volition and lo and behold sounds that I had never heard before began to come out and hasn't stopped since. He just stopped short.

The reason that the gifts of the Spirit are common in other countries other than the U S is that denominations are not quenching the Spirit

Preach the truth, don't be discourage by doctrinal issues the twisted the biblical truth. How to read with neutrality of mind, uncontaminated mind. Read it for it is, is a very hard thing to do, because the ego and pride of the sects created by the human mind.

Dear Sir,With utmost humility and sincerity I am glad to express that I felt your honesty and open heartedness for God But I again very politely and humbly explain that the primary source of our faith is the living word of God who is our savior and lord who have died and resurrected in order to enter in our heart and leads us into all truth instead of the scripture which has been translated by many different people who have different interpretations as you mentioned like a baggage. With Love of God!

“It makes more sense to me” how about what is actually written in the Bible and not what makes more sense to you. “Except the first Pentecost sermon” that again is extraordinary statement because generally the first time something appears in Scripture is more telling than the subsequent similar events. This man is right when he says “I think” and not what the Bible says.

Many Christians "pretend" to speak in tongues because they are taught that the manifestation of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues ONLY. So in order to "belong", they produce phonetic sounds and consider them as "tongues". In reality, the "tongues" we hear in many churches today is not a language common to man but babbling or glossolalia which is "the phenomenon of (apparently) speaking in an unknown language, especially in religious worship. It is practiced especially by Pentecostal and charismatic Christians." Unfortunately and in reality, many supposed Christians who speak in tongues DO NOT REALLY READ THE BIBLE. In 1 Corinthians 12: 4-11 Paul clearly said "There are DIFFERENT KINDS OF GIFTS distributes them." (v.4) Tongues was given for the PURPOSE of reaching out the foreigners living in Jerusalem during the time of Acts.

I have been listening to Dr Utley for years and he has been spot on about 90% of the time on so many subjects, passages especially in the Old Testament. He usually will support his interpretation on sound principles such as Unity of Scripture, Context, and other Hermeneutics. But here it seems he has been persuaded more by experience, seeing so-called Tongues in a Norwegian Baptist church and possibly in some South American Baptist church or 2. This is not how we confirm or interpret scripture. We use scripture first to confirm scripture. When 1 Corinthians 13:8 tells 'tongues shall cease..' this should clue us in to see when do they cease and search for why there were tongues and what was their purpose. We see no evidence of Tongues in the Later Epistles such as Titus, 1 & 2 Timothy and we also see no more healings. Paul could not heal Trophemus or Timothy. So we see evidence of the ceasing of the Sign Gifts. They had fulfilled their purpose which for Tongues was a Sign to the Jews that the Church of Christ was here, 1 Corinthians 1:22 'For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:' Tongues were to Authenticate the Church and it did happen for several years, but not by the time Paul wrote his later epistles, not in the Early Church Fathers and certainly not during the Reformation. We see no evidence of it recorded by Luther, Calvin, Zwingli, John Knox and others. It is a modern movement, a sensation of feelings, not based upon sound Scriptural Interpretation. This is the first time Dr Utley has let experience cloud his eyes on Interpretation

I, Jim, not Jo, have spoken in tongues for over 40 years and I have never heard any of my friends who speak in tongues or any speakers at meetings I have attended over the years ever say one is not born again or one doesn't have the Holy Spirit unless he or she speaks in tongues. There is a denomination who contends that but none of the Pentecostals, Assemblies of God or the like accept their doctrine.

We respect your translation and understanding on this. But we certainly disagree on some points which merely coming from personal issue not to really understand the Holy Spirit's power displayed. You mentioned that God only acknowledged the group at that time. We haven't understood the clear intension of the Holy Spirit which clarify to you only.

I dont believe there should be the use of un-biblical names attached to the Church of Christ / The Church of God etc. There are so many wearing names that are simply not in the kjv bible. The Church is the body of Christ and Christ is its head and there is no such of a thing as a Christian who is not a member of The Church of Christ. Show me one and I will show you someone who is not a Christian in the biblical sence. If the alleged tongue speakers would read Acts chapter 2 verse for verse paying attention to what they are reading will find the tongues were earthly languages spoken ans HEARD by 17 different nationalities. At the tower of babbel their tongues were confused by God and in the Church the demonic has tried to duplicate Gods confusion of tongues and has done a very good job. The only heavenly tongues being spoken today is in heaven not on earth. When one accepts experience above what the Word of God reveals is traveling on a very dangerous road that is the wide road paved with the destruction of the lies of the enemy. God open the eyes of the deceived and the ears of those in theological error. When one is baptized into Christ that soul gets the gift of the Holy Spirit which is being born of the water and. the Spirit. ( Acts 2:38 - John 3:5 ) which is biblical salvation. ( Roman's 6:3 ) - ( Galatians 3: 26-27 ) Pay close attention to the wording when reading Gods Word as preserved in the KJV Js
