I shared this on Facebook. Here is what I said: "Once you "get" this, you will wonder why we build houses the way we do, where we require constant energy input (heat or cool) to keep our houses at livable temperatures that fluctuate all the time. Houses built using Earthship concepts, require little to no energy input to stay comfortable. Whether you just want to save money and not worry about power outages, or you want to "save the planet," this makes a lot more sense than recycling cans."

There is a simple overlooked verse from the Prophet Micah which states " the day is coming when every man will eat under his own vine ,and no one will make him afraid". And here you are Mike leading the way, preparing us for the future. You are a God sent man and yes, "If every soldier in every army in all the world would put down their weapons and pick up the tools to build these homes, life on this planet would just begin." Quoting the builder of Earthship Biotecture , Michael Reynolds. Lord willing ,I will be in one of your rentals for a few nights in June,2023 if not sooner. On my way to pick up plans to take to the middle east , maybe build a few . Planting trees too ! Thank you Mike.

Thank you. I have been promoting your inspired work from the beginning when I was blessed to find your first book. Earthships are absolutely inspiring and I definitely plan to be able to build one in Alberta Canada and in New Brunswick Canada. The earth is our mother and the idea of building one in Alberta and one in forested land in Atlantic Canada is one of my fondest dreams. Thank you for manifesting your inspired inspiration. I am a total fan, promoter and admirer of your work on behalf a more sustainable future for humanity.

I love the fur like hat he's wearing indoors. I assume it's in an earthship. I think I could feel at home in one of those. I don't require much heat. I do know how to dress warm.

So my future goal is to live in a thermos full of soup, nice…😂. Of all your excellent work, the combo of passive solar and thermal mass mentioned here is the most important and useful, not that the others aren’t. People who get passive solar are shocked it’s not being deployed more, especially in these turbulent times…

You're so right. Did you, dear Mr. Michael, or somebody else, talk about this concept for cities, mega cities etc, for the housing of ten tousends andmillions of people? I'd be interested to see this, if you have a link.

i’m interested in building one for 3 kids 2 adults in nebraska,i have property for it and it’s outside city limits. i was thinking of doing a exterior walls with tires interior walls with 8-12% cement/dirt mix, exposed rammed earth interior walls with a gloss coating afterwards.i would love some insight once i’ve started the project.

SO, I am watching this at 7 a.m., admittedly, drinking a glass of wine!!!!! What is this all about? Edited my comment and sending an apology I meant no insult.😊. NO wine today. I previously subscribed and watched your site. I intrigued by and understand your theory. Think it is a brilliant and fascinating concept and love the way it works as evidenced by the beautiful places built in the desert. I live about 250 miles north of Toronto. We have long, cold winters, which I love and very short days, not so much. Do you have a concept that would work in this climate?🤩

I’m an architecture student, and I love the way earthships utilize so many passive systems. But the fact that Reynolds is wearing a coat and hat indoors here sort of proves the limits of the system. I think it’s important to be honest about those limits while educating and promoting the earthship concept. I have learned a lot though about passive heating and cooling and natural earthen building from learning about Reynolds’s work.

There is one in every crowd. Take a moment to look around the frame, see the bananas growing in the colder part of the house (when it gets coldest) in the background? Dude is sick and aging and walking around outside in the winter to where he made this video - in one of the new builds. It's clear you've never been in one of these newer builds - if you had, you would realize the nonsense of what you are saying.

@@T0MME0 Hey. That’s fine. I haven’t been fortunate enough to actually visit an earth ship. I do however stand by my statement that the system has limits.

How could one use water though as the mass instead of earth and glass and tires?

What kind of glass is used for the south facing windows? How do you achieve the correct heat transfer, allowing the heat to enter and warm the thermal mass walls in daylight, without letting the heat escape at night / in winter? Also, how does this principle work when it is cloudy? Could these ever be plausibly built in England where 9 months of the year it rains and is cloudy?
@earthship
@earthship 8 ай бұрын
The greenhouse glass is double paned. The heat from the inner comfort zone leaks out at night, but the thermal mass (which is the dirt inside the tires) transfers the heat throughout the night. In England you will build differently than in Taos - but it can be done. Double greenhouse, insulated floors, wind AND solar.

Wishing the building codes would head more towards this but unfortunately the big corporations probably won’t let that happen because they want to regulate you and charge you for over priced utilities
