actually, in this case they had high quality thermal imaging...except he adjusted the temp of the room so there would be no differentiation/no picture. Ironically, video would have been better

I love how the first and last shot of him entering and exiting are the longest and most uncut, making first time viewers almost believe that the whole scene was captured in one shot (if they are shocked enough by the twist seeing all that he's doing, as they should be). Pretty great stuff and surprised me upon reviewing. Very smart of the director.

What kind of alien tech was in the case that had enough energy stored to heat the gallery?
@pasques Жыл бұрын
They don't elaborate but I always assumed that there was a "wood cutter" that cuts or breaks the canvas frame. And afterwards you could just repair or replace the frame while the cloth canvas is maintained.

iMDb said about the breaking of the painting was in the original script. "The film originally showed Crown breaking the backing of the Claude Monet painting in order to fit it into his briefcase. John McTiernan later decided that audiences might be put off if they saw him in some way damage the painting, so he edited the scene so that it only showed Crown putting the folded painting into his briefcase, and figured most people wouldn't catch on" I catched on and so did you.

I have always wondered about that. It doesn’t fit, and had to be bent, yet was perfect when he took it out and put it on the shelf.

for all the people wondering how he put the panting in the briefcase, the original shot showed us how he got it in the briefcase but according to the director in the movie commentary on the DVD is that people were so offended by it that he had to cut it out of the final cut thats why we are left asking questions on how he was able to do it, only showing him put it in the briefcase and then just instantly closing it.

But you don't explain it, what happened?
@wijr77 Жыл бұрын
@@meltz911 He broke the frame and folded the canvas over. Test audiences were outraged at the idea of damaging the painting so they edited it out and left you to guess. Miraculously the painting appears later with absolutely no damage. Movie magic.

@iDraw3G No, the painting is painted on canvas which is stretched across a wooden frame. The wooden frame may have been broken, but the painting itself which is on canvas is fine. The wooden frame can easily be remade, the painting not so much..

comment on marko and Vhellfire- he took the painting out of the briefcase, frame intact. i never understood that part. the painting would have been ruined with or without, they'rd be bits of chipped wood everywhere inside and probably through the canvis. still drives crazy today.

Is it just me, or did the first scene featuring the Russian thieves have some resemblance to the beginning of the CoD: MW2 mission No Russian? In this movie, the leader says "Let's stick to English from here, okay?" and in MW2 Makarov says: "Remember, no Russian".
@porchhonky260012 жыл бұрын
uhhh, the painting is on canvas. how can you break canvas? i think you mean the wooden frame right?
@Ben820779 жыл бұрын
The part I didn't get and it still bothers me today: When he took the painting out of the frame and put it in the briefcase, he had to fold the briefcase...he would of broken the canvas when he closed it. (1:58 to 2:00). Drives me nuts still to this day. Then he goes home to hang it in his office den...and the wooden canvas is solid (Same canvas. He took the painting out of the same briefcase when he got home. The painting, undamaged.)
@dannyfitzgerald15938 жыл бұрын
+Ben Geiger Yep I noticed it originally too and it irritated me. the wooden frame would be snapped and the oil paint in the centre cracked off and creased.
@BigMac80008 жыл бұрын
+Ben Geiger You know, you don't hear the canvas crack - maybe the ridge on it is designed to bend it so it wouldn't crease. If it folded it around a rounded edge it might just break the frame, not rip the painting. Imagine bending it around a cylinder - more of the frame would splinter, but the painting could just be reframed.
@Ben820778 жыл бұрын
+BigMac8000 or it was just a bad edit job when they were editing the film. You do hear a "crunch" when he folds the briefcase on the seat in the museum.
@BeeABaw8 жыл бұрын
In a commentary, the director stated that he originally filmed Brosnan breaking the canvas, but some people took offense to it during the screening process so the re edited it.
@Bartimaeeus8 жыл бұрын
when he takes it out of the briefcase when he is back at home to hang it up you see that the glued the frame on the two cracks of the frame. the canvas is stapled to the frame, so the canvas doesn't break, when you beak the frame, you only fold the canvas in two.
