The Fujifilm GFX camera system has changed everything. Suddenly large format digital is available at a reasonable price point for the entire market and we're left having to make a really important decision. What lens should I get first? The answer to that question is a lot easier than you'd think. I'm breaking down my three favorite Fujifilm GFX camera lenses starting with the one that I use the most. The Fujifilm GF63mm F2.8 is my workhorse and I'll break down exactly why in this video while also showing a ton of examples of photos shot right through this incredible piece of glass.

hey Miles, i'm loving the fact that gfx is slow. It make me think and I prefer the results. I have another system which is great for other reasons, but I enjoy the shooting experience with gfx more.

Here are my three best Fuji prime lenses for my Fuji APS-C digital mirrorless cameras: 16mm f/1.4 Fujinon 23mm f/1.4 Fujinon 56mm f/1.2 Fujinon What three GFX lenses would give me the speed and angle-of-view that would be equivalent to my three APS-C lenses.

You're really not going to find a bad lens in the GFX lineup. The GF250 is thus far my favorite lens. I use it for candid portraiture while street shooting, landscape, and still life with the mcex-45g. The 110mm is another lens I'll use for street photography, giving me amazing isolation of interesting people. That lens has earned its reputation; it's dreamy. The 120mm is passed up by many because it is thought to be somewhat redundant to the 110mm, but it has a life of its own. The short focusing distance affords photographic opportunities that don't exist in the other lenses, especially with the .5X magnification. Add to that its relationship with the mcex-45g, and you have your 1:1 macro dynamic in a stabilized lens. The 45-100mm is the lens I take with me no matter what other lens I'm shooting. It's so versatile and the image quality and focus ability are excellent. The only other lens I own is the 23mm. I don't do as much in landscape photography with this lens as I expected, so I'm going to try to repurpose it as a wide street lens with intentional distortion. Thanks for the knowledge on the 45mm and 63mm. If I start shooting street at night, I may pick up a 45mm.

The kit lens, 35-70, is surely NOT a particularly good lens.
@tradewisetv2801
@tradewisetv2801 Жыл бұрын
@@scotthullinger4684 I never consider that lens a native GFX lens, lol. I have to admit though, for being only $500, the people who buy it do seem to give it overwhelmingly positive reviews. IDK, it's probably a decent lens. Do you have a copy?

Hi Miles, beautiful work! I just bought a second hand 100s. The wide shot at the very end with all the crossbeams, what lens was that shot on and have you reviewed it on your channel? There's no distortion, it looks great.

Thanks for your thoughts on the top 3. I have never shot the GF45mm, but I reallllly want to give that a try. Have you ever tried the GF250mm? This is a bold statement, but I feel like the bokeh is smoother on the 250 vs the 110. The 250mm is no where as great to travel around with though. But curious to see your thoughts.

sorry for the late reply. I have shot the 250! It's an incredible lens. Personally I'm less concerned with Bokeh then I am flexability and that 250 is a pretty niche piece of glass. It's beautiful though!

06:18: Surprised nobody has corrected you; it's not like an f2 in "the amount of light it captures" at all. It's simply like an f2 in FF terms regarding the depth of field.

Light gathering is the same on an APSC 2.8, full frame 2.8, and a medium format 2.8. It acts like a 2.2 on the GFX bokeh wise, but doesn’t let more light in. Just think about how crap the X series would be if this were true. Either way, love your videos! It just always bothers me when you say that lol.

Only caveat is you have to remember the size of the opening is in perspective to the focal length. The f-stop is relative to the focal length of a lens. It’s the ratio of a lens’s focal length to the size of the aperture letting in light. So f/8 on a 50mm lens means the aperture is 50mm/8 or 6.25mm in diameter. But on a 100mm lens, that same f/8 aperture is 100mm/8 or 12.5mm in diameter. Which means the opening on a 63mm will allow more light in then a 50mm on a FF or a 33mm on apsc with all these giving the same field of view. So it does effect the amount of light hitting the sensor for the same field of view but yes if both have the same focal length the amount of light would be the same although you’d wind up with very different fields of view.

Hmmm, from all the testing and charts that I have seen the GF63mm is the slowest focusing GF lens. How do you find the sharpness at f2.8?

@@mileswittboyer.photoco The light and subject play a large role in the performance of autofocus as well. The gf63 isn't bad it is just that the gf63, 80 on the GFX 100s body are not bad, the same lenses on the 50r are much slower but not bad on the 50s body. The gf50mm and gf80 are super fast but not as accurate as the gf110 and gf45.

The "best lens" for Fuji X mount needs to be defined, and each photographer has a different definition. Video AF stickiness? Viltrox 13mm F1.4. Neutrality? Fuji 18mm F1.4. Best zoom? 16-55mm F2.8. Best sharpness/ microcontrast and background obliteration? Samyang 135mm F2. Ruggedness? Fuji 150-600mm.

I've considered responding to this a million times in so many ways. Ultimately I'll say, I disagree. Often people want glass they either can't afford, or can't justify. That doesn't mean they aren't the best. Just my two cents.
