100% agreed. Italy has the stupidest rules about food: when to drink cappuccino, don't break spaghetti, no meat with pasta, no cheese on chicken, how to eat pizza, absolutely ZERO alterations of any recipe or suffer the wrath of millions nonnas. Ridiculous.

I lived in Italy for 8 years and then moved to Greece. And it felt like a liberation that Greeks just share all the food, don't have rules about the order of dishes and right combinations. You just share and enjoy and that's all the rules you get. My Italian friends nearly get a heart attack when they're visit me and are confronted with "piatto unico" 😂😂😂

@@andrejkemencic Damn, I didn't know that speaking other languages makes you a "fake" Italian, even though I was born and raised in Italy, I still have never travelled abroad and my whole family has been Italian for generations... But I guess my mom making me watch cartoons in English as a kid doesn't make me a real Italian 🤷🏻‍♀️ While it is true that the majority of people in Italy don't speak perfect English ('cause the way languages are taught in school sucks), that doesn't mean there aren't a lot of people that do as they're either self-taught or have learned because of their family, just like in other countries.

I am literally a pizzaiolo in Italy and trust me, we all eat with our hands. You can eat with a knife and fork if you wish but don't act all superior while doing so, I can't stand those snobs who think touching food is disgusting. Pizza is meant to be eaten with your hands, you cut it in quarters and fold each quarter in half, touching the crust is part of the experience and it allows you to get a full big bite instead of the baby bites you'd get by cutting it. Also we all share slices, we don't equally divide our pizza but you'll always hear "Can I try yours? You can have a slice of mine" at our tables

This italian trend its exaggerating making us look like freaks when we live and let live (at least the most of us). Clarification: in NORTHERN Italy, they eat pizza with a knife and fork. In the SOUTH, they eat it with their hands. There are lots of rules that are, "Italian," but not Italy-wide.

When I was in Italy, I tried my best to emulate what the locals were doing. I therefore ate my pizza with my hands except on maybe one occasion where there were too many toppings, and they kept falling off.

It's not that we criticize pineapple just because we don't like it; we criticize it because it completely ruins the flavor of the other ingredients. Of course, if one is used to low-quality mozzarella and tomatoes, at that point, you can put anything on it. It's not a patriotic issue; it's a matter of common sense.

Actually eating with utensils is awesome bc you can eat it hot while not burning your hands or mouth. Small pieces will cool down enough to eat comfortably when you cut it while the rest stays warm. I do like sharing small slices so everyone gets a taste if they like it, but you have to exchange so the final volume is still equal.

1 - We share pizza pretty often. I give you a slice of my pizza and you give me a slice of your pizza. It's common to share half of it when you don't feel like eating. 2 - Only "sophisticated" people eat with fork. Most of us would make fun of you for eating with fork, just once tho, we don't care that much, eat however you want. 3 - Don't use italian influencers as a standard for italian etiquette. Our country It's pretty diverse, it changes everywhere. Plus most of them are wrong.

@@saddemgargouri And you are right. There are some contexts where, for the sake of formality, it is preferred to eat with utensils, but these are few and far between. Of course, everyone eats it with their hands; I always tease those who eat it with utensils. Don't believe the influencers.

There are different kinds of pizza served at different times. A small simple pizza (sort of the pizza Margherita type) can be an individual’s pasta course and would be eaten with knife and fork. There are also Neapolitan pizzas the same size as you get in the US with similar toppings, and they can be shared among several people. I’ve had that for lunch. In Rome I’ve also had pizza al taglio or pizza rustica, which are individual slices (rectangular as I recall) that you choose in the shop and take home or eat at a table. Many years ago I once also had a double crust pizza filled with egg and ham from a shop near the Pantheon in Rome, but I haven’t seen that since. And as I recall, whether you have wine with it or not is an individual matter. Small take-out shops won’t have it, anyways. But Italians are very hospitable and not snobbish about food “rules”.

I moved to France, and because the pizza is very thin in the middle it is impossible to eat with your hands cause it falls apart (I've tried in private). Therefore, I eat it with a knife and fork, which is what everyone does here

Not every Italian agrees on these rules: - You can share pizza, it's just that if you're an adult, you're expected to eat a whole pie (Italian pizzas are smaller than in american pizzas); - You can absolutely drink wine with pizza, but it's better to drink red wines with a very low alcoholic content (so avoid Chiantis, Barberas, Barolos, Montepulcianos...), as digestion will go smoother; - Italian eat pizza with their hands all the time, but in restaurants it's generally considered good manners to use fork and knife.

I always wonder why italians on KZfaq want to make people believe that Italy is full of rules about doing things like eating pizza, drinking coffe and so on. Do whatever makes you feel better, you are on holiday, at the restaurant they are paid to satisfy the customer. Besides, italians are well known to not abide by rules, we say "fatta la legge, trovato l'inganno", i.e. "the very moment a law is passed, we find the way to violate it".

I'm Italian. I love Italy, but I think you can eat whatever you want. Actually cappuccino with pizza doesn't mach at all, Also because the coffee inside could stimulate digestion, which is then dampened by the arrival of other pizza, confusing the stomach and making the dough heavy to digest The same goes for other meals. The need to drink a cappuccino (perhaps because the espresso is too strong) would be a good compromise to indulge in after eating.

I own a pizzeria near Rome and 1. It's common to share a piece for another piece so you try more tastes 2. That's a good rule, wine is for meat, beer is for pizza 3. This Is basically wrong. Only old people and women in their 50's eat it with knife and fork.

If I’m with family and we order different pizzas then you better believe we’ll divide our pizzas and swap parts of them around, if you have 4 people each person splits their pizza into 4 slices and swaps them around, everyone still has a full pizza but they have multiple slices that are different types to try different stuff

Also Fast Food restaurants suck in general, no one in america expects good pizza from fast food restaurants. Why go to america to eat pizza hut when lots of other countries also have them? It's the same with nearly every other country, go to the local shops instead, ask the locals which spot is the best. You can't judge a country's cuisine from fast food restaurants, that's like me going to china, getting panda express and say that they have no idea what real kung pao chicken is.

That pizza is around the same thickness as a New York Style crust, which is as prevelant in the US as the thicker Chicago Style. Additionally, the pizza is about the size of a medium pizza, which is usually divided among multiple people in the US.

@@tmac8396 dawg, im from Italy, the dough used here is, trust me when i say this, way thinner than any crust you'll find in NYC, unless for maybe a few very rare restaurants, moreover, the pizza in the video is already a Northern Style pizza from Italy, they are already thicker than the Southern pizza here, pizzas are never ever divided into more people here, unless its a specific restaurant that imitates US style pizza.

I’m an Italian American from the Bronx, NY. I completely appreciate this my Italian friend, but in America we want our pizza pre cut! We always fold it & it’s considered good manners to share the pizza with whoever you’re with. It’s how we show unity with whoever you’re with. It’s tradition to buy a pie and mang’ with your family & friends on Fridays after work. Don’t forget, the culture is different. In Italia, your time is appreciated and everyone sees it the same. In America, we use our time carefully and we do things quick because there’s more tasks to be completed before the days end. That’s just the way it is. God bless everyone

The most basic version is just to use tomatoes, fresh or canned, (get San Marzano if you can), a little salt and a generous glug of good quality olive oil. It really doesn't need more than that. Simmer it down over low heat for a good half hour and puree for a smooth consistency. I personally also add a pinch of sugar just to bring out the sweetness of the tomato. Don't put onion or garlic in it; you're making a tomato base, not a pasta sauce. Doesn't need herbs either as oregano or basil will go on the pizza itself.

In France, the way we eat is always with what kind of place we're eating and pizza is a good exemple : Pricy restaurant = your own pizza with fork and knife Familial restaurant = divide or not, with fork or by hand, but always in a proper way, with some elegance, like using napking to hold it, eating slowly etc Outside park or private home = divide directly on the package then by hand and no elegance here! Often while speaking, watching TV, playing card etc 😂

Italian from Rome here... Never seen anyone following ANY of those rules. 1. Pizza can be shared, not a must of course, but can be done. 2. Wine is super good with pizza. Once I've even eaten pizza with superior champagne 30€/bottle. 3. You can eat pizza however you want, but MOST italian just cut it (usually in 4 parts) and then proceed with hands. As we say in Rome: "meno cazzate, bro". 😉

It’s so interesting because that’s the trick to these videos getting so much interaction.
