On this episode of Rental Reviews we'll take you back to the past, before rental stores, to the early 20th century... for a Three Stooges Retrospective! If you don't already know, The Three Stooges were a comedy team (american vaudeville) that created tons of shorts from 1922 until 1970. In their almost 200 film run, there were a ton of classic physical farce and slapstick moments that are still funny to this day. James, Tony, and Kieran will talk about Moe, Larry, and Curly... plus the other more forgotten members of this titanic comedy tour de force.

The funny thing is, Moe was the exact opposite in real life as he was on camera. In real life he was a dedicated family man, and very protective of his brothers and friends. He managed Larry's finances for him, and he's the only reason Larry didn't go bankrupt later in life.

@@bullseyecello The infamous ink pen. It should also be pointed out they refused to do several stunts. THe episode where they were doing census work ended with them playing in a football games and getting piled on. Moe refused to let any of them get piled on since they were all 5'4" and under. Well they finally got a stunt man involved, and he suffered several broken ribs. Since then, they got stuntmen for some of the more dangerous work. It's unfortunately that the work conditions kept getting worse and worse for them as the production budget was cut over their later years in shorts.

Not only was it the only on film appearance with all 4 Stooges together (by extension, all 3 brothers) but it was the last appearance Curly made before his death. He visited the studio that day while they were shooting and Moe was surprised, they wanted to try and find some way to work him in despite his worsening condition. So they got him to do that small part on his behalf. Moe was truly a great dude, it was obvious how much he cared for his brothers and Larry, doing all he could to protect them or do his best for their sake. It honestly is a shame the kind of heartache and trouble they dealt with.

15:30 Little bit of trivia.. When moe fell through the table he actually took a much nastier spill than they planned for. He actually broke a couple ribs from how hard he landed, but finished the scene ( if you pay attention, you can see he really landed hard, and they did cut not long afterwards, but if you watch that episode, when he's getting up right after the fall you can tell he's in a lot of pain and trying to hide it for a few seconds before they cut the shot.)

My favorite Stooges lineup was the Larry Moe and Shemp lineup because Shemp wasn't trying to copy Curly, he was doing his own thing that was a similar style and also I like that Larry was utilized more as opposed to just reacting to what Moe would do to Curly or to him - would sometimes have some funny lines between him and Shemp and so forth. I surprisingly liked the 2011 movie and was worried it was going to be bad because of the Jersey Shore aspect, but it was enjoyable the only thing it could have had in it that was missing was a big pie fight
