In 1951 Woodbridge Tide Mill was filmed for a Shell documentary series on traditional craftsmen. The Miller was Sid Desborough, assisted by Ollie Wood and Ernie Cotton. This short film captures the mill in her final years of commercial activity using the tide as a power source.
The Shell Film Unit was set up in 1934, and was the most highly regarded documentary unit based within a private corporation, with key figures from the British documentary film industry central to its output. The archive contains copies of films made for Shell companies globally, as well as videos from the mid 1980s onwards. Most of the films made during the war when the Shell Film Unit was working for the Ministry of Information are held by the Imperial War Museum.
