This is like a good trailer, I would love to see a more in depth documentary on this. Well filmed. Good work.

Same. It was hard enough to track down just a couple people who could speak to it though.

Tiki hut themes were so post WWII and Korean War era, then with Nam, people were reliving their R & R flash backs. Thanks for this doc and the end of Hulls story, do more!!!! 😊

I'm from Knoxville and over 50, I'm devastated that I never got to see this place and now it looks like this. ):

There has to be some 8mm footage taken in 1972 of this place when it was brand new. That would be amazing to view.

Boy those puka necklaces and Tiki,Shirts open. The 70’s were great. I was born in 61’ so I remember the 60’s and 70’s well. Both were fun but there were some dark, dark times also.

The building (which was sited in an area Zoned as Residential but was clearly and illegally intended and used as an adult entertainment venue) had been poorly designed and badly constructed in 1972, and was never correctly maintained after mid 1973 when the "Swingers' Tiki Palace" closed. It was little more than a flimsy timber frame structure which steadily deteriorated due to neglect for twenty years until it was to a limited extent repaired in the early 1990s. The bankruptcy of Billy Hull led to the Title to the property being seized by the Chattanooga authorities in lieu of unpaid taxes. The authorities made a final attempt to sell the so called 'house' on the open market in 2014. The then asking price of $400,000 did not attract any offers, and during 2015 and 2016 the building was seriously vandalised and rapidly become derelict and hazardous. I visited it with official permission in 2016 and my professional opinion as an architect was that the structure was then dangerously decayed, presented a risk of injury to any visitors, and could not in any sense be preserved, renovated or repaired because of wood rot, collapsing roof structures, water ingress and infestation. In practical terms, complete demolition and full reconstruction was the only option, but the design would however have to be substantially changed to provide a practical, legal and properly constructed residential property on the site. By 2017 the volume of complaints from local residents had escalated because of further illegal activities on the property, including vagrancy, drug use, criminal damage and theft. Chattanooga Building Code Officials issued a Notice confirming that the building was a 'Condemned Unsafe Structure', and that it was now legally classified a 'Dangerous Building'. The site was completely cleared on 7th September 2017. Inspection of the remains confirmed that the building was certainly on the verge of collapse at that time.

Thanks for the clarity of the back story of the crimes. I have read so many crazy stories about this place. I drove up to the house to see it in person about 2 years ago. Chatt PD was sitting at the gate... It is a real shame that so many people broke into the house and vandalized it. I always wanted to know who lived in the house after Billy went to jail, and how long was it empty? I remember seeing google map photos and spotting a late 80's early 90's limo in the driveway..

I'm not exactly sure who lived in the house after Billy went to prison, but after the last owners of it left it sat empty for I think around 15 years, give or take. Thanks for watching!

It was listed for sale in 2014. If you look at Google Earth imagery before that it does appear that someone lived there up until that year. Even in the street view (www.google.com/maps/@35.0314919,-85.2569765,3a,60y,311.57h,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1spHwFKK_X9MRb7akW8RkxYA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en&authuser=0) from July 2014 there are still cars in the driveway. Here are some photos from when it was for sale (facebook.com/TikiRays/photos/pcb.691263200970869/691258934304629/?type=3&theater), you can see that it definitely had not been vandalized yet. Although I don't know if it ever sold, I recall reading that the house was seized by the city in 2015 for unpaid taxes (which, if true, means it probably didn't sell), and it appears that the vandalism and break-ins started some time after that.

@@jakkew5753 Yeah, someone told me that the last owners of it were hardly ever there, more or less sitting empty, of course a lot of it is left to the imagination, because it was tough to track down people who knew a lot about it. But yeah, the city did seize it and ultimately condemned it. Thanks for sharing the links.

I can tell u exactly who owned that house it was Brenda Olinger.she was my bestfriend 's mom.she was a wonderful woman .but when she died .everyone wanted that property and it was taken to court and of course my best friend lost the house.it was a beautiful place. I was there when it was perfect. It doesn't matter now.but my friends moms personally stuff was thrown out like it was trash before my friend could pick it up.when she tried to pick it up they arrested her and her elderly aunt.sad stuff.karma karma karma for all the people who had there hand in this cookie jar. I will remember it as a beautiful place in my childhood. The land was worth a pretty penny. It had the most beautiful view of Chattanooga. I felt like I had died and gone to heaven when u look off the deck. God bless u for reading this.

😂😂😂😂 this is what they used to call, a backyard " goodtimes house." This one, I think, was a swingers club. The "swingers" aren't as "free" as they'd make you think. Those folks have their own "mores" and hierarchy game rules. Probably why Hull set up the hit on the dude *wink 😮 so "pictures" ??? Probably too many politicians and preachers would've been outed 😂😂😂.

I thought the video was perfectly made so to get that close view for sake of memory. It's difficult to recall near anything if seeing it race by the eyes. I genuinely appreciated and loved it! ❤️ RIP Billy Hull.
