There’s risk, but this bill is MUCH better than the first one. The first one basically gave unilateral power to the President to ban apps considered a risk to national security, which is problematic for sure. This one, though, only allows the ban of apps from “enemy nations”, as determined by Congress. This only includes China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea. And there’s a risk of a slope, but that assumes Congress will agree on something which…well yk how that goes

I hope people read the bill and realize it also allows the government and companies to legally download your data from any device you own and use it against you without a court order. This isn't about Tik Tok as a platform, but about the fact that it's parent company is based in a country where any company based there is LEGALLY OBLIGATED to hand over ANY and ALL data to the CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY when demanded, and the information of American Citizens being surrendered to them could be pretty bad for us. there's a reason the tiktok ban is being considered patriot act 2.0. the old bills(mainly S. 686) and this new one(HR 7521) are government overreaches disguised as JUST a tiktok ban. in reality they're both several pages long and they have details in them that could of easily been left out. S. 686 was worse but HR 7521 is honestly bad as well. like if S. 686 was patriot act 2.0 HR 7521 is 1.8, my prediction is is HR7521 is an attempt to move the goalpost to get S. 686 reintroduced under a different name or heck even combining the two. and no, the government will never support a bill that tries to tone down the personal data stealing of Americans by American companies, our data is too useful to them for them to do that.

Whenever I see a big topic being passed up as a bill and making its way through, I’m immediately skeptical. Important bills have the scummiest history of vaguely talking about the issue for like the first 73 pages, then sneak in a section, sentence, or completely unrelated bill into the vote that makes no sense or is detrimental to the people/makes it obvious what the vote is actually about. Government and politics is literally just a game for the rich and corporate world. My opinion on TikTok as a non-user: The shorts are just a new dimension in the trend on shorter and shorter clips and panders to short attention spans. I remember many different times YT favored a different duration of videos 8min 10min or 12 min videos or longer to be succesful 45min. Shorts if a content creator uses it are used as a short introduction to another video or looped content (end and beginning form the loop and contain the rest of the short). I will not be downloading TikTok and will stay on watching YT 5min or longer videos since shorts are just a fast lane to wasting time. (Longer videos can waste time too but if I want to inform myself on a topic it is time spent well)

I hate Tik Tok and only used it once, but I also don't want it banned. If it does go through, I know people will not like it one bit. Sure, it has horrible trends, but it also has some of the most amazing and wholesome trends and videos that I have ever seen. I just don't like it because their trends are just not my thing, and many other reasons that would take too long to describe.

They are responsible for what their kids can access on the phones or computer. The internet or any social media is not responsible for kids safety, they can add safety features on their apps, but at the end of the day, the parents are the ones who are at fault for their kids getting on those sites/ apps.

There are also definitions and guidelines dictating what is a foreign adversary. China and other countries already ban basically every American or other app from around the world. It's also not about the average consumer/user. It's about politicians and other users of high status where their data could have major ramifications. I agree with the view that companies shouldn't just be using our data for profit, but some of what you spoke on is lacking information.

If you reverse-engineered the code for TikTok itself... ITS SPYWARE... For example; anything copied on your clipboard is viewable by the app itself. This leads to passwords, key movements, and also delicate information if you're in the service sending messages back and forth. They are targeting us and everyone is blind. Anyone with a spec of coding knowledge would know this is not a good thing anyone saying otherwise is flat-out not intelligent.
