Political content creators came together in NY-16 in upstate New York on 6/22 and 6/23 to get out the vote and canvass for Rep. Jamaal Bowman as part of an event put together by Progressive Victory. Before knocking on doors, Matt Binder and Vaush spoke about right wing media and their experiences as guests on Tim Pool's show.

I was at the PV event both days, Matt Binder was the first person I saw. He approached me as I got off the bus, he needed some directions. What was pretty cool about Matt at the event was how much he was talking with all the volunteers and how often I saw him hanging out. No shade to the other streamers who I'm sure would've loved to chat more, but were restrained with a tight schedule.

Terminating a pregnancy doesn’t mean killing the baby. The reason the embryo is essentially killed in early stage abortions is because it’s unable to survive on its own. I don’t think enough people make the point that an abortion is just the termination of the pregnancy, not the killing of a child.
@sugoruyo
@sugoruyo 3 күн бұрын
A lot of the crazies believe the moment of conception (not even implantation) is the point when the soul is imbued into the zygote by the creator of the universe, life and everything. At that point, anything that you do that doesn't lead to the birth of a child is murder in their eyes. Some actually believe that any time sperm leaves the testes that doesn't result in fertilisation of an egg is also murder. Frankly, I don't think any kind of technical argument works on these people; whatever science you present, they will counter with their belief. Not even arguments from religious freedom work any more, most of the fundamentalists now believe in forcing their religious beliefs on, at least, everyone living in the same country as them.
@simplicitylost

Not to mention that if you ask any medical professional they will tell you that unless you witness what happens, there is no way to tell the difference between an elective abortion and a natural miscarriage. An abortion is essentially a forced miscarriage. This means there is no way to prove someone had an abortion versus if they had a miscarriage unless there is a medical record. Which is why criminalizing people for “suspected” abortions is pure craziness.

To answer Vaush’s question: yes, there is a hypothetical you can use to get reactionaries to understand a woman’s perspective on abortion. I call it Gimmie Your Kidney - and it goes like this… You: Gimmie Your Kidney. Them: What? You: There’s a needy orphan or a veteran somewhere or whatever. He needs your kidney. You have an extra kidney. Give it. Them: But isn’t it up to me what I do with my kidney? You: Exactly. You - and everyone - deserve to have bodily autonomy.

They will argue that a kidney doesn't have a soul. The problem with most pro-lifers is that a lot of if it is rooted in deep religious belief. If you rip it out, you are killing that spirit baby.

@yoredeerleader 4 күн бұрын
On Tyranny: 20 Lessons from the 20th Century (2017) by Historian Timothy Snyder 1 - Do not obey in advance: “Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.” 2 - Defend Institutions: “It is institutions that help us to preserve decency. They need our help as well. Do not speak of “our institutions” unless you make them yours by acting on their behalf. Institutions do not protect themselves. They fall one after the other unless each is defended from the beginning. So choose an institution you care about-a court, a newspaper, a law, a labor union-and take its side.” 3 - Beware the one party state: “The parties that remade states and suppressed rivals were not omnipotent from the start. They exploited a historic moment to make political life impossible for their opponents. So support the multi-party system and defend the rules of democratic elections. Vote in local and state elections while you can. Consider running for office.” 4 - Take responsibility for the face of the world: “The symbols of today enable the reality of tomorrow. Notice the swastikas and the other signs of hate. Do not look away, and do not get used to them. Remove them yourself and set an example for others to do so.” 5 - Remember professional ethics: “When political leaders set a negative example, professional commitments to just practice become more important. It is hard to subvert a rule-of-law state without lawyers, or to hold show trials without judges. Authoritarians need obedient civil servants, and concentration camp directors seek businessmen interested in cheap labor.” 6 - Be wary of paramilitaries: “When the men with guns who have always claimed to be against the system start wearing uniforms and marching with torches and pictures of a leader, the end is nigh. When the pro-leader paramilitary and the official police and military intermingle, the end has come.” 7 - Be reflective if you must be armed: “If you carry a weapon in public service, may God bless you and keep you. But know that evils of the past involved policemen and soldiers finding themselves, one day, doing irregular things. Be ready to say no.” 8 - Stand out: “Someone has to. It is easy to follow along. It can feel strange to do or say something different. But without that unease, there is no freedom. Remember Rosa Parks. The moment you set an example, the spell of the status quo is broken, and others will follow.” 9 - Be kind to our language: “Avoid pronouncing the phrases everyone else does. Think up your own way of speaking, even if only to convey that thing you think everyone is saying. Make an effort to separate yourself from the internet. Read books.” 10 - Believe in truth: “To abandon facts is to abandon freedom. If nothing is true, then no one can criticize power, because there is no basis upon which to do so. If nothing is true, then all is spectacle. The biggest wallet pays for the most blinding lights. 11 - Investigate: “Figure things out for yourself. Spend more time with long articles. Subsidize investigative journalism by subscribing to print media. Realize that some of what is on the internet is there to harm you. Learn about sites that investigate propaganda campaigns (some of which come from abroad). Take responsibility for what you communicate with others.” 12 - Make eye contact and small talk: “This is not just polite. It is part of being a citizen and a responsible member of society. It is also a way to stay in touch with your surroundings, break down social barriers, and understand whom you should and should not trust. If we enter a culture of denunciation, you will want to know the psychological landscape of your daily life.” 13 - Practice corporeal politics: “Power wants your body softening in your chair and your emotions dissipating on the screen. Get outside. Put your body in unfamiliar places with unfamiliar people. Make new friends and march with them.” 14 - Establish a private life: “Nastier rulers will use what they know about you to push you around. Scrub your computer of malware on a regular basis. Remember that email is skywriting. Consider using alternative forms of the internet, or simply using it less. Have personal exchanges in person. For the same reason, resolve any legal trouble. Tyrants seek the hook on which to hang you. Try not to have hooks.” 15 - Contribute to good causes: “Be active in organizations, political or not, that express your own view of life. Pick a charity or two and set up autopay. Then you will have made a free choice that supports civil society and helps others to do good.” 16 - Learn from peers in other countries: “Keep up your friendships abroad, or make new friends in other countries. The present difficulties in the United States are an element of a larger trend. And no country is going to find a solution by itself. Make sure you and your family have passports.” 17 - Listen for dangerous words: “Be alert to the use of the words extremism and terrorism. Be alive to the fatal notions of emergency and exception. Be angry about the treacherous use of patriotic vocabulary.” 18 - Be calm when the unthinkable arrives: “Modern tyranny is terror management. When the terrorist attack comes, remember that authoritarians exploit such events in order to consolidate power. The sudden disaster that requires the end of checks and balances, the dissolution of opposition parties, the suspension of freedom of expression, the right to a fair trial, and so on, is the oldest trick in the Hitlerian book. Do not fall for it.” 19 - Be a patriot: “Set a good example of what America means for the generations to come. They will need it.” A20 - Be as courageous as you can: “If none of us is prepared to die for freedom, then all of us will die under tyranny.” 3 links to historian Timothy Snyder discussing his book On Tyranny kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d52CdbqWxpmtlWw.html www.c-span.org/video/?424912-2/timothy-snyder-discusses-on-tyranny kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z595m7WSvMC5nGg.html About Timothy Snyder en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_D._Snyder www.timothysnyder.org/books/on-tyranny-tr

It gives a pretty great breakdown of all the accusations and the explanations behind them. Given this controversy was several months ago I don’t recall there being Animals in the folder. Even if so unless an illegal activity was taking place looking at pictures of animals isn’t illegal. You can say it’s weird but it’s not illegal just like any other interest. I'm so confused by Tim Pool being able to spend all this money on the compound but he doesnt want to buy himself some hair? Bc thats why he wears the beanie right? Due to self consciousness?

Ive heard its a narcassistic trait for people to surround themselves with exotic objects or "conversation starters" because they themselves are usually not very interesting people, but they want others to think they're interesting, hence, they collect interesting things to show people. (Which is completely different than people who have heirlooms or mementos, which are intended not to impress other people, but to commemorate a personal experience.) If Tim say, had a family member who fought in the Civil War and that was "Great Great Grandfather John Pool's rifle", it would be cool...but because it's just a random rifle, it comes off as egocentric.

Funny, I had heard about the artificial womb argument, but I usually saw it asked by conservatives as a questions posed to liberals to see if they would be ok with banning abortions if such an alternative were possible. Though its pretty rare to see this subject come up in general.

It's hilarious they had to change up the whole panel format because you were too good at yapping and neither Jreg or naomi could get a word in edge wise. I knew you could fill space with talking, but the lack of awareness by you and even vaush when you had all 4 on camera was hilarious. So many people in chat felt bad nobody else could talk, and Vaush was too preoccupied with what you were saying to realize oh nobody else is speaking. Lmao

When all we are fed are clips of Vaush being garbage, it's easy to think he's just garbage. Just like how we're fed nothing but footage of Biden's gaffes, then he holds a state of the union address and everyone thought he was on meth because he didn't just do 40 minutes of staring into the abyss and waving at no one, the way people had been conditioned to believe he was going to. Turns out those compilations of deceptive footage has a pretty obvious effect on people's brains. People literally got manipulated into thinking Biden was 95% brain dead... They were genuinely stunned that an adult man could talk.... That's how much selective clips and memes rot our brains. Even on the left, people genuinely bought into the right wing memes of biden just seemingly zoning out.. Only for the camera to zoom out and we see Biden listening to a guy talking to him.. Only we can avoid brain washing.

Hey, quick question Matt: Do you know that several Progressive Victory "talents" are huge cheerleaders for Israel rn? I'm genuinely curious if you do. Isn't it strange that they're doing this event to beat back a candidate directly and openly sponsored by AIPAC and CUFI while several of PV's own ppl make trips to Israel so they can come to their rube audience and tell them about how Israel isn't so bad? I honestly don't care about Vaush, he's just another on top of a long pile of supposed leftists who do nothing but shill for NATO and brag about how they're the sensible ones. I wanna know if this was just out of desperation becuz, even without looking, I know Jamaal Bowman lost because of course he did. Better believe the dems are comin after everyone else who criticized Israel even a little bit as well. I'm sure we'll have another of these fun little collabs to look forward to when that happens.
