Well for most of the drivers I've understood from the taxi companies in SG (ComfortDelGro, TransCab, etc.), whatever cash earning they have is their immediate earning, as it is with them. For electronic payment methods, it takes time for them to receive their pay. And as you know some (or most for the times I've taken from taxi companies than Private Hire Vehicles e.g. Grab or Uber), this drivers are dependent on whatever they've earned at the end of the day. So most of this drivers, especially the older generations have this "tactic" of insisting the passenger to pay by cash. Which yeah I don't really condone either if it is a rude manner or when the passenger obviously doesn't have sufficient cash to cover. Anyways this is just some info I am sharing. I did watch the video and understood he rode by Grab, but the unclear part is did he choose his payment method properly 😂 Because he only said he linked up the card, which can mean he is just registering it into the Grab application. Lastly it seems like it is a typical SG behaviour where they don't trust the passenger to go to an ATM, thinking they will run off the moment they are let out of the vehicle 🤣

I can practically guarantee that the driver is double charging. Firstly practically no grab drivers would pick up anyone using cash, and secondly even the old taxi companies that existed for decades before Grab have also switched to electronic payment and bookings, cash payment for private hire rides is exceedingly rare nowadays to the point that I don't have my wallet on my person at most times

Just sharing some info 😊 As you said, it is indeed not a cab driver, it is a Private Hire Vehicle (PHV), he used an app that is similar to Uber, but Uber packed their stuff from SG after losing their competition to local company Grab. This vehicles are not equipped with a physical electronic payment reader where you can swipe the card, insert or tap onto it as the majority being a Grab Driver are privately owned by themselves, not Grab. So the Grab app has a payment method for any rides you book, which does include cash on end of ride. Which might be the mistake he made when he booked as it was unclear if his card was charged.
