Today I maintain this small ladies watch from the 1940s. The watch is equipped with an old tiny form movement which was probably manufactured by Buren in the 1930s.
The watch is brand-new, never used and in original package. The watch is not running anymore due to old lubricant which became sticky after 80 years.
The hands are rusty and the crystal suffers multiple hair-cracks.
Let's see what we can do.
Hope you enjoy this video 😊

Another great job. My wife has a Boulova watch that I bought for her in the late 1960's. It's shaped like a heart and 14k gold. It is as small as this one.

Thank you so much for this. I have an old ladies watch from the 40's too that is not working and i would hope to be able to be able to repair it one day (im a noob). Could not find a video with a similar movement until today your video. It's not the same movement manufacturer, mine is a Hans Gisiger / Selza SA but it look so close this give me hope. Now still need to learn to walk before running. I made a video of it if you're interested to see it.

Is there any writing underneath the balance or underneath the dial? This movement must be older than the one in my video because it has no shock absorbers.
@MagicWatchmaking
@MagicWatchmaking 10 ай бұрын
The movement is from a company called (Hans Gisiger / Selza SA Uhrenteile, Biel Schweiz 🇨🇭). Somewhere on the movement mostly underneath the balance you find a number and that will be the calibre number. Selza calibre ##. All other information you have.

@@MagicWatchmaking Thank you very much. I'll get back to you when i find out. Right now, i can't unscrew the screw that lock the dial feet in place nor the screw of the balance wheel, either because my smallest screwdriver tip is now dull or i need to buy a .5 one.

Beautiful! To me these tiny old ladies watches are a great way to get a bit of a challenging experience on a small budget. Could you share what rust remover you used? The ones I tried leave the part blackened. Thank you!

Great!. I like to see these vintage ladies' watches restored. Many folks are put off by them because they're so tiny. Btw, that was clever making those mainspring-greasing tweezers. Did you make those by taking felt and attaching it to the tweezer jaws?. If so, great idea. I may have to try that.

I struggled a lot working on this watch. Everything is so tiny. On top of that making video of such a tiny part also a challenge. My thumb is double so big as the complete watch 🤣 The tweezers are made for lubricating the mainspring by Horotec 12.729. I changed the felt with hunting calf. It is smoother and don't left any residue. Just try to made it and share the result. Thank you so much for watching ☺️

Love that beautiful watch and the superb restoration. Sir, what is your name and which country are you from. Can you tell me what was it that you were using to remove dirt from the dial and also what wood you were using to polish the hands.

Thank you for the prompt response. Yes , I visited Austria in 2018 and stayed in Vienna and Salzburg. Enjoyed the Sound of Music tour in Salzburg. Austria is a beautiful country, and I love it. I cannot forget the film ,The Sound of Music. I must have seen it 50 times, but I will see it again and again. Sorry, this has nothing to do with watches, but just sharing my experience.

To be honest, this watch is almost twenty years older than me. When in the North of the country where I was born (in the South)1945 the Famine claimed more than a million people. I don’t think that at that time people had the idea to use cattle to pull the plow let alone invent a watch like this. 🤔 Thank you for sharing.

I am replacing the escape wheel on a Rolex 1400. *How do you guys get that train bridge on so easily?!* I can never get the pivots to line up with the bearings. I've been spending *hours* on it!
@MagicWatchmaking
@MagicWatchmaking 4 ай бұрын
No way 😳 hours really? I do like this: I put all wheels carefully and align them. The downside of the wheel must be engaged with the wheel next to it. Next put the train bridge carefully and align it while you put it back. It must fall down. Sliding it will shift all the pivot… shifting we don’t want right!? Very important: don’t use any force to press the bridge down… never! Sometimes I just nock the movement holder carefully… very very carefully. The bridge will fall down and the wheels align automatically… I show this technique several times in my videos. For example here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y7eFdtt-xt7Flps.htmlsi=ZBe7GlFx8Ou7NA2B Have a look minute 7:08

It's hard to imagine that all these parts originated from a lump of dirt in the ground that was processed to make the metal. Then to make such high precision parts that would eventually keep time.and remind us that we are late to catch our bus that would bring us to our place of work. Or the original owner might have to speed up tweaking her makeup to meet up with her young man!
