I came accross this video during a surfing session and am very glad I did... The first thing that grabbed me was the car of course (Gorgeous) and the second was that there was no "Please subscribe" I really don't like that, especially at the start of a video when you haven't seen the quality of it...I will never buy one of these kits unfortunately but watched the whole video to the end and loved to see the car being driven...Having said all that about subscribing, I have done so, because this video and hopefully more like it in the future are what You Tube should be about, not whiney people who demand you like and subscribe to their video, then it has firstly, terrible music and then bugger all content...Well done and a really beautiful car...

How long will it be until we see a new racing class for these stars. These gentlemen have produced a real winner for a new class. Next someone will stick a Lotus engine in it and all will result in costs spiralling and it will be out of reach of the many, so insist on a class with either a maximum engine size or insist only MX5 engines only! Here in Australia, we're paying WELL above the odds for cars - a decent NB MX-5 is around $15,000 and then some. What I'm wondering is this: have your fun with the Tipo kit for the foreseeable, but keep your NB shell, & then, in the future depending on which car is worth the most in 20 years, put it back to stock. Is that nonsense? or should I just buy the rattiest low KM's NB Miata I can find... Hmm I want that Tipo184 though!

LHD donor will require a RHD steering rack, and a RHD Gas/brake pedal assembly (these are different on a LHD car) both we can supply used if required. Question, the NB had a 5 speed and also a 6 speed in a version of it, are there any adaptations you have to do to get it to work with the 6 speed, or is it the same thing as the 5 speed
@tipo1843
@tipo1843 2 жыл бұрын
The 6 speed has a larger gearbox casing which reduces pedal & feet space in the cabin, conflicts with the bulkhead, floor & footplates and doesn't allow room for the battery tray. To be fair you don't really need 6 gears in a race car when you mostly work between 2nd - 4th You could build with the 6 speed but there are more disadvantages than advantages & with the larger wheel size of Tipo there's no real world ratio gain than the 5 speed

Don't really understand why you use a pcd adapter and then the spline adapter? The sheet metal work looks lovely though
@tipo1843
@tipo1843 Жыл бұрын
Good question Angus, We have to use a PCD adapter because the diameter the MX5 studs are on is too small to just fit a spline adapter. They would come through within the taper of the spline adapter and the wheel wouldnt fit & you could get nuts on. The PCD adapter increases the diameter of the stud pattern to a safe size and also widens the track more in proportion with the cars aesthetic & stance

Good Question Thomas. Its because the car is a single seater the lever is in the centre, behind/under the steering wheel, below the knee & to comply with Blue Book regulations on seat harnesses to go racing you simply couldn't reach it when your strapped in. Many period race cars had similar linkages back in the day and we have replicated this for realism and to enhance the period driving experience; plus its a really cool bit of engineering!

I doubt you can reach far enough forward while driving to operate it without the linkage.

The reverse gear is a design flaw….sticking a knob on it so you can muscle it into reverse is just a hack described as a feature.

The MX5 /Miata reverse selection is designed that way so you don't accidentally select reverse when leaving 5th, its not a "hack" but thanks for the comment

@@tipo1843 I don’t remember ever having to use two hands to get into reverse in a miata. The kit simply does not provide a gear shift mechanism that is fully functional.

@@tipo1843 just ignore trolls like this. I think you’ve done a fantastic job with the kit. The gear change mechanism looks like a real period piece. The extra hand required to get into reverse is perfectly acceptable and actually befitting of a vintage car.
