Part of it, in my opinion, is go in with a plan and too not try to overthink things, choice paralysis can cause you to slow down your games and could get you frustrated and end up making a bad call.

Really appreciate these no nonsense general tips for how to play, I'm a pretty casual player but this type of thing is a lot easier to process than trying to watch 100 battle reports and gleam overall strategy advise from them

Did I see a 75-74 game? Cripes! One piece of system agnostic advice that I've always treasured... During every turn or phase, ask yourself: what is my goal? Then assess what is successfully moving towards that goal and what is being stymied. That will greatly help you keep your focus on winning instead of sticking to The Plan.

Class video, good tips all around! Assessing your games is really important, i pkayed against world eaters with my chaos knights a couple days ago end we ended up with a draw. At one point to kill i unit of berzerkers i fell back so i could shoot the enemy which worked fine and they died but i fell back into my deployment zone when i could have went the other way and possibly scored on an objective instead which could have won me the game!

Thanks! That's why i love the score sheets or the app. It's so low effort as you have to write scores anyway but really useful to come back to the results with a fresh perspective at a later point.

Thank you for the video! I watched the CK vs GSC game and it seems that Callum decided to take advantage of GSC needing to run lots of characters with their units by taking fixed objectives (specifically assassinate), thereby really streamlining his gameplan. Do you feel that was impactful and did you have to adapt?

Glad you liked it - and the game on stream! The high character count is something i have thought a lot about with GSC and i have even toyed with lists that don't max assassinate points and instead take more units with the points saved. In order to deal damage with GSC you often need to expose the characters (primus in acolyte units getting close with demo charges, biophagus infiltrating, patriarch in genestealers, etc). So i find it a constant balancing act between scoring well/executing my game plan and not just automatically giving up 20points. Ultimately to answer your question yes it did impact the scoring. The way i played the game meant that i ended up feeding callum assassinate points. I should have sacrificed the genestealers not the abbarents in that game as well. I liked my tactic of denying deploy homers but not with such an important unit. Bringing it back to your question around assassinate, I think it also means i should consider dropping the patriarch. So i can threaten with genestealers but not be sad when they die (and give away patriarch assassinate points). It's a tension with gsc as characters give a lot of power. (Feel like i want 3 primus and 3 reductus sab every game!) In the spirit of my video on reflection. I think you raise a great point. If i had blocked scoring with gsc and not the abbs, it would have kept them in the game longer and still denied teleport homers. If i then ALSO protected my characters better i could have really hammered callums secondary scores and maybe flipped the result.
