A short video about the film The Titfield Thunderbolt, made by Ealing Studios in 1953.
A quaint little story about a local village who might loose their branch line, so they group together to save it.

I walked the course of this line in 1998 and took photos of key scenes as they were at the time. I even found some bits of railway hardware in the bushes.

Lovely video thank you, I think it's a wonderful film, I love it and I watch it regularly, apart from the fact that I m very much a fan of John Gregson. Many thanks again. Gérard lacey in Ireland.

One of the main reason things that interests me about this Railway Movie is the Law Enforcement Police Officers.

Nice video. Good work. 3:20 A compromise was clearly made, as _that_ crossing was created for the filming at Dunkerton Colliery sidings. I highly recommend Simon Castens' book 'On the Trail of The Titfield Thunderbolt' for information on the location shots and other insights, e.g. nobody had cleared Lion's technicolour repaint with the museum beforehand!

I think that's a local thing, I was always taught to say train. It's only now and then I hear someone use the term locomotive.

Listen to Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull to heat the words locomotive and train in correct usage. Not just pedantic rail enthusiasts but the better educated part of popular culture. Unusual usage that you were taught locally.

I have been acquainted with the film for years and have noticed that the railway itself isn't strictly the key driving force of the plot. It's the outside factors that intervene with it that spark the villagers' efforts. The railway's only credit made clear to us is that the Squire's Great Grandfather ensured its construction, and even then it does not dwell into further exposition. This might be to do with the script having been drawn out before location and prop choices had been decided on; the story's justifications of incorporating railway technicality might have worked more effectively overall if the options had been taken into consideration before the script was written. (This is how I typically define my characterisations and set-pieces.) Regards, Samuel Farris.

6:04 100 tons? Not quite, about 27 tons. Still somewhat heavy to do what appeared in the film.

When doing research, it was suggested it was 100 tons. I now realise that might have been a mild exaggeration.
