To celebrate the film's 70th anniversary since release (5th March 1953), we're exploring the abandoned branch line where The Titfield Thunderbolt was filmed to see what remains today and where the mechanical stars are now.
This is one of several videos I'll be releasing about the film inspired by the real people who have saved steam for our generation.

It's a little sad that so little of the original architecture or railway exists today, but it's nice that some of the spirit is still there. You can look at some of the buildings or the layout of an area and say "Yeah, that's Titfield!"

the UK does a great job of removing abandoned railroad track so much so that you can never tell and the geography changes so much too

As someone who has been watching this film into my fourth decade, I cannot thank you enough for all the hours of research, travel, filming, editing, dedication and passion that has gone into the making of this video. It deserves a chorus of steam whistles and a (still drunk!) Mr. Valentine saluting as one who is about to die!

Valentine: [proposing a toast] "Our magnificent generals, General Gordon and General Booth." I read somewhere that the person who originally said this walked out of the cinema in disgust when he saw the film was in colour!🤣🤣

Almost all of the scenery from the "then" clips look so much nicer than the scenery in the "now" clips. Maybe I'm biased, but it seems we used to care more about our surroundings.

@@Randomstuffs261 More people take up more space and use up more resources, wearing things out quicker. All the roads need to take much higher volumes of traffic and goods. It all takes its toll.

Despite the argument about railways being space-consuming and pollution-heavy, the Titfield Thunderbolt shows how that’s not always the case. In many of the shots it’s just the locomotive, a single strip of track, a couple of distant houses, and endless countryside. It’s the sort of view you’d be hard pressed to find today.

A really fantastic comparison between the scene of Titfield Thunder and the present time. Some of these comparisons you could bearly tell they're the same location a certain scene is filmed. Well done with this.

Just saying the remix at the beginning had me jamming out and also terrier55stepney thank you for actually going to these places and checking them out it was cool seeing what’s left of the architecture in the filming locations such a great display of creativity because not once have i seen someone that’s the time and effort to accomplish the challenge this is to find every detail and every filming location and not in a million years could I do it but you managed to do it and I just wanna say thank you for doing this and have a good day

oh, thats Woodstock, Oxfordshire, just down the road from me. The loco is heading to the back gate of Blenheim Palace and passing what is now the Soldiers of Oxford museum at 3:20 . The buildings havent changed, just the names on the shop fronts, and the cars on the road. This was before my time, but I recall being in the crowd watching Hanover Street being filmed in the same street, Harrison Ford and Christopher PLummer exiting the town hall, street converted to a French one in WW2, lot of work for 10 seconds movie time.

Can you do a review of the Rapido Titfield pack? I don't have patreon so if you already uploaded one there, I'm sorry. But I noticed you got the pack when I saw the Wisbech & Upwell tram car in you recent Stepney model video, and wanted to know what you thought of it. Does it replicate the film well? Does it run properly? Just curious.

There are several reviews of the Rapido set on KZfaq already by other people (not to dissuade another one!). I own the deluxe set myself and I don't think there is a better model of anything made in the scale. It is totally spot on to the film and runs just as well. The research Rapido did is incredible, my only complaint is that the flowers in the vase inside the coach don't look quite right.

You're in luck! I will be reviewing Rapido's Thunderbolt next week, and later talking through how I've modified the whole set and bar car. Each video is released on Patreon a week before they're on KZfaq, but they are on the way!

If only the railway hadn't closed so early, heritage railways were in their infancy in those days the railway had everything going for it ,beautiful countryside and villages. Does anybody know if there is any film of the line before it closed,l thought I've Peter's might have filmed it.
