Loved the Mel Gibson tapes thrown in and other references. As always a great list. I love how you put a lot of effort into the honourable mentions. Most youtubers only mention a couple. Reviewing online to put together my list, I can’t believe I found 13 great films you didn’t mention even with your extensive honourable mentions already. These aren’t my only favourite films of 96 - I love Trainspotting just as much as anyone else - but I thought I'd make my list from these ones not mentioned just to give them some love. 90s films truly were incredible. 1. Muppets treasure island 2. The crucible 3. The phantom 4. Fear 5. The craft 6. First wives club 7. Spy hard 8. Eraser 9. Bulletproof 10. A time to kill 11. Executive decision 12. Harriet the spy 13. Sleepers

Great video! By the way, 1997 is one of my favorite movie years, so I can't wait to see your top for that year. My favourite movies from 1997 (in no specific order) are: - Contact (based in a novel by Carl Sagan, to me is one of the best sci fi movies ever made). - Gattaca (also, one of the best sci fi movies ever) - Will Hunting - Life is Beautiful - Titanic - Men in Black

Sometimes, I would be more adventurous, and go for some Chinese and Japanese delicacies beyond Ozu, Mizoguchi and Wong Karway. But it would be churlish to complain! Keep up the good work! Great video! I think I need to give Trainspotting a rewatch. I liked it a lot when I first saw it back in high school but it did not stick with me much. My number one would have to be Breaking the Waves. I think it’s von Trier’s best. My second would be Beautiful Thing, a very underrated British gay film. And I will defend Space Jam to the bitter end! A true masterpiece. Keep up the good work!

Aw, 1996. The only year I could stand Courtney Love and Gwyneth Paltrow. I’m still laughing hard your smoking while watching Mission Impossible bit. Hilarious! Silly comments aside, I still love watching Mars Attacks, the Birdcage, and of course, Fargo. But I think Cemetery Man starring Rupert Everett was released here in the US in 1996 is a must watch film and would have been on my list; despite being filmed and released in 1994 in Italy. It’s pure comedy madness!! If you haven’t seen it, I suggest you give it a go. You might not like it, but I loved it! And I’ve never watched Trainspotting so I’m an odd man out! And did I hear you right that Googie Withers is your grandmother?? Shine was a brilliant film and she did such an amazing job. I haven’t seen it in years, but I’m adding it to my films to watch this winter. Cheers.

As for "Twister" and the curious fact that "one of the biggest blockbusters of the year starred Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt": by that point, Hunt was a big U.S. TV star in "Mad About You" (and in my opinion, she gave this role a level of seriousness not borne out by the rest of the (nonetheless quite entertaining) film), and Paxton had just done solid ensemble work the year before in another big hit, "Apollo 13," but it is indeed notable that they both would see their movie careers peak just one year later, when she earned an Oscar for "As Good As It Gets" and he was in what was then the biggest hit of all time, "Titanic."

I cannot wait for Harry to move up towards the milennium (and beyond). Of course 1997 is great, (Titanic, L. A. Confidential, Jackie Brown, Donnie Brasco, GATTACA, and the somewhat overlooked Starship Troopers), but I'm really looking forward to 1999, 2002 and, especially 2004. I'd love to know what he thinks of my favorite American director of comedies of the last twenty or so years. Not Judd Apatow. Alexander Payne. Can't wait.
