We expect skill, incredible game-sense, knowledge, but most importantly, we expect the uncanny ability to always come through in the clutch.
Unfortunately, it's impossible to always be a clutch god, and even the greatest players make mistakes on the biggest stages. Sometimes? Those mistakes aren't a big deal, but other times, they cost them the map, the game or even the tournament.
When that happens, we call it a choke, and some chokes haunt us to this day.
These are the Top 10 Chokes in Esports History.

Nah, a choke is if there’s really high stakes than and you’re ahead (usually by quite a significant amount), and then you throw the game away

For those wondering about the Nenne grav: 1) NYXL has a history of choking(S1 stage 1, not getting to the S1 finals), even before OWL with the LW Blue and LW Red teams(see Kaiser Earthshatter vs LW) 2) the grav getting Michelle could’ve worked wonders, could’ve taken out the EMP that could eliminate NY’s chances on its own Unfortunately it didn’t work and now we have the Nenne Grav

You made an understatement when you said being a TL CS fan isn't for the faint of heart. My guy, every single game, even against the smallest of opponents, feels like a grand final of a major. Its always really close for no reason, and its infuriating because 2019 showed us that TL has what it takes to be the best, but they need to hit that perfect stride.

my opponents on cs today had 10-5 on us and we were suffering until on t side we were rushing a and b sometimes mid and we get aces/clutches/flawless rounds and we were 14-15 it was final round and they choked it and we tied good ol chokes

Surprised you didn't include the reverse sweep Complexity put on OpTic in BO2 back in 2013 at the Full Sail Invitational. It definitely falls into the soul-crushing category considering that OpTic and their fan base had succumbed to their kryptonite of Aches and coL once again... but glad it was omitted from the list considering that they were down 3-1 in map count in a best of 7 series; its not the worst choke but it's up there.

My top choke is C9ning from overwatch xD C9 once won a teamfight but didnt touch payload and lost the match because of it, it spawned an entire term for when this happens in pubs

Nene didn't choke. The only way for them to win the team fight was to prevent the EMP being used, which is why he fired the grav off in that direction when he saw the sombra. He missed, which you could consider a soft throw, but the idea of him firing off the grav in that direction to stop the sombra from casting EMP was the right idea

Nenne's Grav is unfair, its a completely valid high risk high reward play to take kill Sombra and take EMP out of the fight and Grav isn't that good in Goats due to tank HP and bubbles. The biggest reason they lost that fight is because Ryujehong manages to five ball and kill Anamo, who then dies with sound barrier. Otherwise, after the ult trade its likely a neutral fight.

i think when you talk about the cloud9 major win, i don’t know if you can classify it as a “choke,” because cloud9 outclassed faze clan in that bo3, while faze did have a lead going into match point in the third map, it wasn’t a choke, but more of a comeback. that’s my opinion. love the videos as always. 👍🏻

No Daigo or Faker? Those are literally the biggest chokes ever, with Jwong v Daigo being one of the most seen chokes ever and Faker v Ryu being the most popular league clip of all time. Doesn’t make sense why they should at the very least be on the list.
