The Tragedy of Anakin Skywalker: A Symphony of Fate
The Star Wars Prequel trilogy tells the tale of Anakin Skywalker: a prophesied prodigy with unparalleled potential. From a slave on Tatooine to a Jedi Knight, his journey is a tumult of triumph and tragedy. Tempted by fear and manipulated by Darth Sidious, his descent into darkness is a cosmic tragedy. His fall is swift and devastating, betraying the Jedi Order and turning against his mentor and brother. Anakin's transformation into Darth Vader is a chilling reminder of darkness that lies within us all.
John Williams captured this tragic tale beautifully in his score to each of the three films. I tried to compile the music in a way in which the story of Anakin with all its ups and downs is at the forefront. The music is divided into different movements designed to capture a specific idea that is relevant to Anakin's story. I hope you enjoy listening!
Part II covers Attack of the Clones which shows us Anakin's loyalty and love as well as his anger and hate. We also witness the end of the republic as Palpatine instigated a war to consolidate his executive authority.

0:00 Movement IV: Anakin's Love
Love intertwines Anakin's journey, from the solace of his mother's affection to his consuming passion for Padmé, it proves to be a pivotal force in shaping his destiny. Love in Anakin's life provides both profound joy and profound agony. It is love, or rather, the fear and pain of losing his loved ones that fuels his downfall, though it also becomes his path to redemption. As he confides in Padmé, "The thought of not being with you, I can't breathe."
7:11 Movement V: The Birth of an Empire
As Obi-Wan uncovers the Clone Army's existence on Kamino, he remains unaware of the malevolent purposes for which it will ultimately be used. While the clones emerge as heroes on Geonosis and prove vital in the Republic's struggle against the separatists, they also herald the Republic's downfall. Chancellor Palpatine's consolidation of executive authority, coupled with control over two formidable armies, marks the beginning of the empire in all but name.
13:08 Movement VI: Anakin's Hate
Anakin's anger and hate surge effortlessly towards those who endanger his loved ones. His ability to hate is therefore directly linked to his ability to love. His tragic flaw lies in an inability to master his rage and accept the fact that despite his growing power he cannot control the world around him. He is unwilling to carry the burden of fate. The slaughter of an entire village of Tusken raiders after the death of his mother unveils his ominous trajectory, foreshadowing a darker descent yet to come.
