Napoleon Bonaparte, the historical subject of the Ridley Scott directed movie starring Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby, was a human powerhouse who inspired tens of film adaptations.
For four years, Stanley Kubrick attempted to make his own Napoleon movie.
He developed NASA-grade lenses, hired 20 Oxford assistants and secured thousands of Romanian troops, but the movie failed.
Stanley Kubrick gave director Ridley Scott footage from The Shining to use on Blade Runner, but he never gave up his script or research for Napoleon.
This inspired Alison Castle to write her book ‘Stanley Kubrick's Napoleon: The Greatest Movie Never Made’, from which this behind the scenes video draws much of its inspiration. This book chronicles the way Kubrick’s failed Napoleon movie eventually led to Barry Lyndon.
Other Stanley Kubrick movies include The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, Eyes Wide Shut, A Clockwork Orange and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Great video. One small correction - the Soviets did not release Waterloo but War & Peace (I assume you're talking about Bondarchuk's film)

Napoleon by Ridley was crap. Terrible movie. Just pure crap. Worst actor for Napoleon ever. Boring. Jumps all over the place. Historically wrong in every scene. Anti French, anti Napoleon. Ridley blew this big time. It should have been called Josephine and the Incel. Hated it. Very disappointing. The horses acted good. Joaquin was absolutely terrible as Napoleon. Kept the same boring face the whole movie. He mumbled and whispered all his stupid lines. $200 million? good grief. Watch the 1970 Waterloo movie to see what a great movie looks like and great acting. This Ridley Scott movie is the worse movie I've seen in 20 years. Boring crap. History be dammed Ridley eh?

100% agree. The movie is shit not only as a historical movie but as entertainment.

I like Joaquin Phoenix in every other movie, I mean the guy can clearly act, and even has acted well with Scott directing before, granted that was over 20 years ago, but its proof. It must have been Scott forcing him to pull such a terrible performance. The man has been a hack for a few years now. Someone should make a petition that directors should retire when they get to their 70s or something. The man was born in 1937. He'll be turning 90 in a few years. Someone should stop him from screwing up his legacy even more. He's working on Gladiator 2 now. I dont have high hopes.
