Excellent presentation! Very much a tragic story. But having grown up in the anthracite coal region of Pennsylvania, this tragedy is exactly like the mining tragedies that have happened here. The story is the same no matter what country it's from. Greed for wealth with no care or concern for safety, just as long as money is made. So many mining disasters could have been prevented if greed wasn't involved. Pennsylvania has had its own share of mining disasters involving collapses, explosions, etc. Hundreds dead at once, thousands within a hundred years. Sadly though, mining disasters have happened worldwide and will continue to happen. This was just one mine disaster story from your location. I would be willing to bet that there are dozens of more mine disasters from your region! Thank you for taking the time to research and create this video telling the story of this disaster! I hope that you will continue to tell the stories of other historic disasters in your region. This history must never be forgotten! Have a great day!

Well done Jack, most informative. I live in the four terraces in Senghenydd, nearly every house lost a father a husband, a son or sons etc. Very sad. Thanks for your documentary 👍

Hi Jack, great documentary on such a tragic time. I have a friend with a strong connection to the area whose fathers father died in the accident. Can he get a copy from you of this doc or somewhere else. He's desperate for a copy. Thank you for your trouble. Please reply.

Just a few constructive tips. @3:38 you state a test for gas was performed placing a naked flame into cavities. No way would you ever do that unless you wanted to create an explosion. The test was performed using a flame safety lamp ( Davey lamp). Not just in cavities in roof but also in general air. The initial ignition of methane would have caused a pressure wave causing flammable dust to become airborne. This dust is highly explosive once airborne. The unfortunate person decapitated at the shaft top was a banksman, the winder who operates the winder would have been safe in the winding house. @5:50 think you misread notes, should be removed girders, not grinders. These steel girders are to guide the cage in the shaft and some may either have been damaged and blown out or other girders blown into the shaft.@7:20 think you miss read, the survivors obviously did not die think you meant miners. You will also find many graves in Llanfabon cemetery over Sneggy mountain. @17:12 initially the sinkers lived in the huts, hence the name. At that time there would not have been many houses in the valley. These huts werre typically supposed to be temporary. My Nan lived in one of these in later years when the money was actually working, so it was not always the lowest paid. They did look pretty grim as did many houses of that era. Good effort, easy to edit out nervous errors ;-)

Sadly the audio was barely audible in the first part, then reverberated so much when you were on camera that I couldn't watch more than a couple minutes. 😥

Hi thanks for that as I used to live at senghenydd, born at tanner bryne, and then moved to the west end station terrace no,5 my grandad worked at the pit ,fortunately he was on the back shift that day so he was o,k, later on in my life I worked at the lady Windsor colliery ,washery plant under the direction of my late father dai Ms david ernest Evan's,,I was one of the wagon handlers loading the coal into wagons for the power stations 16/21tonne in each wagon until it got closed , then got a job at catnic components like some of the other miners who lost their work at the pit ,!
