It is always disturbing when for no reason whatsoever a person is killed. To this killer, Sabina could have been any woman walking alone. He never met her. He then planned to go to Brighton and find someone to have sex with, but instead, inexplicably drove all the way up to London and to a random area he'd literally never been to before. I say go for it. In my early 20s I travelled to London and Cardiff alone. Didn't feel unsafe - even if straight off I saw a man walking with an axe during the day! I did trust my gut about decisions and money. Always stayed on the beaten path. You won't regret it.

It's much easier to imagine yourself in their shoes when you have something in common with the victim. The original commenter worked nearby and is also a teacher, therefore I'd imagine they can see themselves in her a lot and imagine themselves in a similar situation.

Even if someone heard or saw something strange, doesn’t mean they would’ve called the police and reported it. I’ve seen so many instances of, for example, DV in public places and not one person called to report it. There was even a uhh I guess, idea these people had (idr who now) like a social experiment, to pretend to be arguing in public. All they got around them was a crowd that watched or just people who ignored it completely. Not everyone has common decency.

It was not long after Sarah Everard's murder, too. I remember social media campaigns calling for justice for Sabina, trying to get her name on the news (as her case wasn't as 'big' as Sarah's). I remember women holding vigils for both of them and for women's safety in general - only for those vigils to be attacked by police. We women have to be wary of random men, wary of our partners, wary of the police... who do you trust? It really does make you feel like nowhere is safe.

Yes! It would be so amazing if we could just go for a simple walk and not feel deeply uncomfortable or have to be constantly on alert. I often want to get some fresh air and enjoy nature but there's often no one to go with so I end up not going. It's crazy how little control we have over the simplest things in our lives as women.

Where I live in Texas we have low crime rates. I remember a total of 4 murders in my 24 years of living here. I don't feel uneasy about being at the park or the river at night. I am always aware of my surroundings and what goes on around me. The guy that took this young lady's life is a psychotic monster. Just because he was angry doesn't give him the right to steal another person life. I would have been looking all around if I was in that park. I would have made eye contact with him. If he had attacked me I would have fought and gone right for his groin area and then his throat. I've learned something valuable about watching this channel. Criminals look for easy prey when selecting a person to attack. Helpful tips for everyone to cut down your chances of being a victim. 1) Be aware and alert of what's going on around you. 2) Be confident. 3) Make eye contact and let them know that you know they are around. 4) Go by your gut feeling. If something doesn't feel right get out of there. (Better safe than sorry) 5) If attacked assume you are fighting for your life and go for the eyes, throat, heart, groin, kneecaps etc. 6) Never give up. Make them feel that you're not worth the risk. I hope these tips help.

Yes, just being alone is enough to be overpowered by a man. I don't feel safe alone at all. I use a lot of public transport where there is plenty of CCTV, and learn situation awareness. I carry a lot of personal alarms and a whistle.
