Tattooine should have done one of the following (according to physics): 1: Entered an ice age, and over time slowly returned to normal. 2: Become a broiling hellscape. _(Think Venus)_ 3: Become a broiling hellscape, over time entered into an ice age, and slowly returned to normal. The Rakata did nothing to change the planetary system. "Glassing" a planet is simply slang for nuking/bombing a planet from orbit. Not turning the surface into actual glass.

Unless you're dealing with Heat based weapons like Photon Bombs and Plasma Rays. Then it would literally turn a planet's surface into glass. Not to mention The Rakaata went out of their way to permanently sterilize the planet out of spite.

@@kaimagnus5760 Except that the Rakatan Empire used nuclear devices for orbital bombardment. It gets covered in the comic series describing the founding of the Je'daii order on Tython, the arrival of Dak, and the Je'daii splitting between the Ashla and Bogan (light and dark.) This comment was to narrow down how silly the story would be if it were held to true physical laws. Not really to say that this is how the story should have gone. It was a mockery of all of the comments on this video, and almost all Star Wars videos, that try to compare the fantasy world to ours.

One thing that stood out for me in the Tatooine lore was the quirkiness of the minerals. There's apparently a lot of phrik on Tatooine. Phrik is a) rare, and b) useful, so even a desert planet should be valuable. But the ores of Tatooine just don't work. You turn the ore into metal, and it turns into dust over (a short period of) time. Most unhelpful, and most unusual. And this seems to occur nowhere else

What if the Tuskan raiders are actually a remnant of the Rakata themselves? A small group of them that were trapped on the planet, and have regressed to this point? The eye holes in their masks don't really match up... but maybe it could be a bit of a curved periscope type thing in their, giving their eyes extra protection. Or they've just evolved a bit more, still visibly related to the Rakatan's, but now a sub-species. That would be kind of neat. Personally, I hope we never actually see what's under the Tuskan mask. Some things are better left a mystery.

DUDE?! I thought the same thing after watching Book of Boba Fett. When Boba had the dream-trip with the tree, hinting at water “restoring” Tatooine, I thought one of Sand People were going to reveal exactly what you just described: That Sand People were actually Rakata stranded on Tatooine for all these years. The Rakata and their infinite empire have always interested me, as does any story involving “deep time” that most have forgotten. I’d love to see Lucasfilm explore that past, along with the Star Forge, Rakata Prime, etc. I feel the Rakata were far more terrible than the Galactic Empire and would love to see them at their peak only to watch them collapse in poetic fashion. That’s a whole different story for Lucasfilm to tell without tampering with anything OT.

I don't want to whine; this sounds cool, and if it is the accepted canon, or Legends continuity story, and nothing new has replaced it, thats fine, but it seems weird that, by this the binary star system plays no part? Assuming the ancient Rakata didn't ALSO lob a second star at them, it was always there, meaning green Tatooine orbited this binary system, and had no issues. The Rakata could have demolished the planet's surface, but then thousands of years later, I'd think it would have changed some. I always assumed that Tatooine's environment was at least partially caused by these two stellar bodies, and exposure to so much more solar energy, and radiation, but this seems to contradict that, as without the orbital bombardment, Tatooine would have stayed nice. Maybe decades/centuries of a surface of glass did play a part, but when Earth was covered in reflective surfaces, it actually grew colder, and caused an ice age. It sort of makes Tatooine actually make less sense, at least to my limited comprehension of the various forces at work.
@user-yq9im9dk9z
@user-yq9im9dk9z Жыл бұрын
This is indeed a Legends story, but we've heard that Tatooine was once covered in oceans in recent stories too. I think Star Wars just likes a trope of devastated/healed planets like a living organism. Other examples include Ossus and Mustafar.
@thalastianjorus
@thalastianjorus Жыл бұрын
It would truly depend on the two stars, their distance from each other, and the orbital path of the planet. Binary, and above, stellar systems also have _'goldilocks'_ zones. These zones often involve the planet in question orbiting the mutual gravitational center of the system - just as the stars do. This puts the zone of habitation quite further out than Earth is from Sol. As such the increased energy output merely helps. "Glassing" a planet does not actually involve turning the surface of the planet to glass. It's a slang for carpet bombing with nuclear devices. The way he is using the term makes it seem far more literal. That said - no... it still does not really make any sense. If the planet were on the very inner edge of the zone then it should still be too hot for human life. Water not boiling does not mean humans can survive the temperature. A 'goldilocks' zone only means water can exist on its surface as a liquid. There is a very large area of said zones wherein human life can't survive. If the bombing caused a nuclear winter then it should have entered an ice age. If they purposely evaporated the oceans then it would enter a runaway greenhouse effect such as happens with Venus - due to released carbon from the billions of years of evolved life that would have had trillions(+) of tons of CO/CO2 under the surface , and the now extremely dense atmosphere from the vaporization of its oceans. If they did not fully vaporize said oceans then the cloud layer caused by the temperature spiking, due to the thermal properties of that many nuclear bombs, would again begin an ice age. TL;DR: The planet should either still be nice and watery, or it should be a toxic, acidic hellscape.

@@thalastianjorus I don't think that it *_has_* to make logical sense 🤔. Because he says that this was happening during a plague that was robbing the Rakatans of their Force powers and killing them off 🤔. A thought occurred to me, and I don't know if it's actually a part of the story or not, but, I had an idea that they might have used some if not all of what remained of their Force abilities to assist in their orbital bombardment of Tatooine to specifically do that 🤔 (if that's possible in the Star Wars universe 🤔😅😓, because the Sith on (one of) the ancient Sith homeworld(s), Malachor, they created a superweapon (like most Sith artifacts and superweapons was most likely powered by a large Kyber crystal, like Sidious had done with the Death Stars (large ones and vast amounts of small regular-sized ones) could annihilate life and turn its victims to stone 😰😱!). In fact, many planets in the Star Wars universe have become wastelands due to centuries, if not millennia, of war 😰😱🥺😣😔, wars involving Mandalorians, Jedi, Sith, etc. So why shouldn't the war against the Rakatan Invaders be any different 🤔😓? Anaxes, the planet with the fyrnocks (silicon-based lifeforms but animals, not sentient beings)the fierce predatory animals that didn't like being in sunlight, it was destroyed by Admiral Trench's bomb (most likely). (I know that the bomb got disarmed in the final season of The Clone Wars, but, they said that it could destroy a large majority of the planet 😰😱, and by the time of Rebels, the planet is in ruins 😰🥺😣😔.)

@@erikolson4148 I fully agree that it doesn't have to make logical sense. I was pointing out how ridiculous it is to hold it to some form of logic - as the original comment was alluding to. If held to logic the entire Star Wars galaxy falls apart. It's a fantasy world - hence why I never understood why people always try to hold it to real world physical law.

I'm probably missing something, but how would the glassing of the planet permanently destroy its oceans? Yes the incredibly high temperatures would cause surface water to boil away but the water cycle would still exist, no? Wouldn't that moisture simply condense into clouds and then fall as rain and accumulate back into oceans, lakes, etc. when the temperatures fell back to their baseline?

@@stevenmartinezgarcia9829 But that would not last. Oxygen is very reactive and just through natural geological/chemical processes would eventually be made unavailable.

I believe the reason it is such a good hiding place for Jedi or future Jedi and attracts so many unsavory beings is because of what the Rakata did. When they glassed the planet, so many beings died so unjustly in such a cruel act That it caused the surface of tattoo ween to be subtly imbued with the dark side. The deaths of billions and the rage of an entire species Seems to me like enough to cause a very powerful Darkside nexus

The vaporized ocean water wouldn't simply disappear forever. All that vapour would form clouds and fall back to the surface as rain. It would be a flood rain that would make the great flood story look like a passing dribble.

bro tbh I think digging too deep into anything can be bad for mental health n tbh that's excalty what your doing like their probably is a connection but not in the way you think or know cause you don't know how George Lucas n the other who wrote books for star wars thought your jus using your own opinion which is fine but to discussion bigger like you want or have live action series or movie could be as bad as han solo or any other shows trying to expand of the universe sorry George Lucas had plan but they didn't go as planned so we may never know really the true connection n it could all jus be consequences that tatooine was the place they were born
