He got his start acting performing in over fifty stage plays including three Broadway productions. After making the jump from the stage to the screen, Peck enjoyed a thriving career in film appearing in hit films like Cape Fear, The Boys of Brazil, The Sea Wolves, The Omen, and Roman Holiday. He was an incredibly talented actor who had a dynamic range. He could play virtually any type of character that a producer wanted him to, but he was well-known for portraying leading men with high moral fiber.
Peck won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his riveting performance as Atticus Finch in the 1962 film adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird.
Even though Peck enjoyed a full and fulfilling career in the entertainment industry, he also experienced quite a bit of adversity and peril in his life. One event in particular that devastated Peck beyond works was the sudden and tragic death of his son, Jonathan. We'll discuss that heartbreaking chapter of his life - among other difficult periods of his life - in this facts-filled video.

Absolutely adored him in Roman Holiday. That last scene in the embassy he seemed to be waiting for that door to reopen. The look on his face when it didn’t was crushing. His character resigned himself to the fact that she could never come back and that he must move on with life. He acted that scene beautifully. I’ve seen that film at least 20 times and I always shed a tear at the end. I met him and Veronique at a Broadway opening - a truly handsome couple and still in love in the early 2000s by the way they stood together. He will always be my “Man Crush.” He played gentlemen very well without cookie-cuttering the roles. Each unique in their own way. Rest In Peace, Greg.

He was a one in a lifetime actor, person. He left his mark on Hollywood and his family. He was the King of Hollywood. That man can act like no one business. To Kill a Mockingbird and The Big Country and Roman Holiday. To Kill a Mockingbird haunts me when I was a kid and in life, that was the dark side of racism in America. The Big Country was a rare Western movie that fits who Gregory Peck was. Very sorry about hearing of his son’s passing. He will always be remembered for being a standard of Hollywood! Thanks, RIH.

My family and I got to meet and talk with Gregory several times when he was making a movie in my husband's hometown in 1970. He was there for days. It turned out to be a terrible movie. However, Gregory was always willing to talk with the townspeople, have photos made with them and was gracious in every way. He was kind to everyone! After all the attention he inevitably got because of his celebrity, this is a indication of his character.

I was not aware of how Gregory Peck died, so was somewhat perturbed when I first read the title of this video. It’s August 2022, I’m 77 and have rediscovered a number of his movies on KZfaq. As my Dad would have said “He was a lovely man” probably the greatest complement he would make. Given his incredible achievements throughout his life and the fact he was an octogenarian dying in his sleep I’m guessing that’s the way he would have wished to pass. Thank you.

I thought he was incredible in The Yearling, but it was too sad for me to watch over and over, as I did with Roman Holiday. Movies don't often show the development of someone falling in love - but Peck made it believable, and the last scene where he's just watching her as she walks away breaks my heart every time. I also liked him a lot in Gentlemen's Agreement. Somehow he managed to climb into his roles completely, and yet his connection to his audience came through from Peck the man, I think.

Gregory Peck's appearance in films commanded fabulous attention. He made a permanent niche in the hall of fame which very few could emulate. His candour and want of any overreaching through histrionic and his calm presence, very much restrained, made him extraordinary. His life was fraught with tragedy. We wonder how such a man of peerless stature could face such turmoil. His faith in God primarily was unshaken always. May the Soul of the Great Actor a legend for all times, find an everlasting peace that "passeth all understanding" in the words of John Milton in Paradise Lost

Didn't Gregory Peck divorce his long time wife after he was interviewed by his last wife Veronique, a French woman who worked for Paris Match magazine. They fell "in love", Gregory divorced his wife and the day after the divorce, he married Veronique. Does that make him a "thoroughly decent prince of a man"? Because he always portrayed decent characters on film doesn't make him necessarily one himself.

My parents were classmates of GP at Cal. My Mom sold him notebooks when she worked at the student store. I always had a crush on him and considered him to be the most handsome, classy gentleman. Once I wrote him a birthday card and he sent me an autographed photo as Atticus Finch. What a man!!

Gregory Peck”s performance in To Kill a Mockingbird was the quintessential actor that was raised in the studios. The actors/actresses reflected the values and the dreams of all Americans struggling to make a good life. He reflected the deep seated values of all Americans. Hollywood has lost that grounding and no one really pays attention to their movies, nor will they reminisce about them in the future. I hope Hollywood can recruit actors like Gregory Peck, who protect the solemn values of Americans again.

I've always been a huge fan of his work - with Mockingbird standing alone at the top of mountain! In addition to many of the films mentioned here, I never miss Captain Newman, M.D., The Big Country, and How the West Was Won. There is a scene in that last film with him riding a little donkey. Those ridiculously long legs were sticking out on either side of him because if he put them down they would drag along the ground. I don't know why that image always sticks in my mind, but I love it! Unlike the endless strings of "celebrities" we have now, Gregory Peck was a real MOVIE STAR. They don't shine much brighter than he!

So many great roles are associated with Mr. Peck. My favorites tend to go against type like Duel in the Sun, Arabesque, Moby Dick, and Designing Woman, but of course the one that I think defined his type as an actor Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird; and his work in Gentleman's Agreement. He will always be remembered through those films, what came from him and into the camera. He was a rare one.

Gregory Peck is one of my all time favorites, both on screen and off. He was a person of integrity, kindness, inclusion and talent. In his career, he was adept to both drama and comedy. My favorites, "To Kill a Mockingbird", of course, but also "Captain Newman, M.D.", "Designing Woman", "The Big Country", "Cape Fear" (Robert Mitchum was in that too. What a screen duo!), "Spellbound" and "Duel in the Sun". He was a baddie in that one. What could Jennifer Jones do?

Gregory Peck was a great, great actor - I know, the under statement of this thread. We share the same hometown, San Diego CA. The man had such dignity and moral fiber. Of course I loved him in all the movies mentioned on this thread. Some of his other movie roles that I watch again and again... Twelve O'clock High, The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit, Pork Chop Hill, Duel in the Sun, Cape Fear where he teamed up with Hollywood bad boy Robert Mitchum and Yellow Sky where his love interest was Anne Baxter (who I just thought was a terrific actress and very easy on the eyes). It is hard to pick just one role of his which stands out to me. But whenever The Guns of Navarone is on the movie channel I drop whatever I'm doing to sit and watch it.

There will never be anyone like Gregory Peck again, not in this lifetime and probably not the next either. I'm an Aussie/Greek gal and when I came over to the US in 1998. The first picture I had taken was of me crouching down in front of my idol's foot and hand prints with his signature. He is a modern God. I love all his work, but my top three are; The Guns Of Navarone Roman Holiday Horatio Hornblower .....oh swoonworthy. Thank you for you wonderful cinematic gifts, your humility and your divine, mellifluous voice.❤ RIP you amazing man 💔

His best movie was 12 O'Clock High in my view. He was also very good in Yellow Sky, a much under-rated western. He was an adornment to the screen, rare in Hollywood even then and absolutely non-existent today. While making Roman Holiday, Greg proposed to Australian model June Dally-Watkins but was knocked back. Veronique got him on the rebound and it turned out for the best.
