The Stockholm Major final was a clash of CS:GO's titans. S1mple versus NiKo.
Na`vi destroyed every team on their way to the grand finals without dropping a single map. S1mple led the charge; the greatest CS:GO player of all time knew this was his major to win, and he looked unstoppable.
But on the other side of the bracket, G2 Esports' NiKo was terrorizing teams.
When the two met in the grand finals, everyone predicted a swift 2-0 victory of s1mple. Despite losing Map 1, G2 rallied on Nuke, taking it to map point. Up 15-12, with s1mple in his crosshairs, it looked like NiKo could be the first player all tournament to make s1mple look mortal.
He pulled the trigger and the shots went wide.
This is the most tragic whiff in CS:GO history. The shot that almost made s1mple bleed. The shot that almost gave us a full three-map series in a grand finals that was supposed to be a rout.

Don't forget that s1mple hit an absolute banger when Niko missed. If he'd been slower to react, Niko was retreating after his miss and would make the bomb defusal difficult

I came looking for comment talking about how Simple actually had to hit that shot still. Not enough people give him credit I think because they just expect it LOL. But that's a hell of a turn on quick scope with Niko already retreating.

Honestly, the whole Major was redemptive for Niko to me, he kinda blew it on the Faze superteam in Boston a major by all accounts he should have won, but here he carried a team with no right being there to potentially winning the upset of a major final hell if he'd won or if S1mple wasn't on the other team he'd be considered the MVP it was for the whole tournament a great performance.

To be fair in Boston he played his heart out too. Except people only remember the final, at best, or, at worst, inferno where I believe he had single digit frags going into overtime. I'm just glad we got to see what, to me, feels like one of the best csgo matches to date during a time where there's so many impossibly good contenders.

@@TheSantifive Oh I understand for most of the tournament he was good, but in the grand final he kind of vanished and played not even subpar for him but just had a very poor rating. Like I suspect if he had played even just mediocre or average,10% better Faze would have probably been able to seal the deal. Here yes he had that one moment but overall during Nuke he showed up, and yes he didn't get W but I think he can hold his head high knowing he put everything into that he could.

@@yeonjfps Honestly it's more embarrassing for g2 as a team, niko was overperforming every match of the major. If he didn't show up 1 game they would've been knocked out in quarters. Rest of the team just couldn't assist him so he had to hit every insane shot.

s1mple doesn't use the AWP that much. In fact, he used the AWP just as frequently as he used rifles. His headshot percentage isn't that much higher than other AWPers either with dev1ce at 35% and ZywOo at 41% (same as s1mple). Plus, NiKo is a whole 10% above s1mple. This is in line with what you'd expect from any rifler. This is because, sometimes, going for headshots isn't the smartest play as evidenced by many support players, like Xyp9x, who prefer aiming at the body for guaranteed damage. Even the best riflers, like electronic or Ax1le or ropz, don't have HS ratings any higher than 50% because of the advantages of spraying in CSGO. The only outliers are YEKINDAR and b1t, with 60% and 70% HS percentage respectively.

not hard with his sens, i have the same exact sens as s1mple and while you do need to be a bit more precise it's far easier and quicker than doing it with like 400@2 like some of G2 are, on average atleast

2:11 I will say this stat comparison is a little bit misleading. As an awper, s1mple is going to have a lower ADR and HS% on average than a rifer. Less opportunities for damage without a kill, and more kills that aren't headshots. If anything, it's kind of impressive how close s1mple is to Niko considering how much of a heater Niko was on

In my opinion, another situation where it's pretty much GG was if NiKo killed b1t in heaven. NiKo would take at least a flashbang and/or an M4 from his corpse, s1mple would obviously try to flick to heaven hoping for a trade while NiKo SHOULD fall back. This could force s1mple to try to fake the bomb and try to pick huNter, or at least know where he is. HuNter could wait less than five seconds in case he was faking it and even just die, while NiKo should run outside all the way to Mini (or check if s1mple is defusing to bait for huNter). It was also planted in the open for Mini, so that could be a smart move. That was unlucky, but his shot was a genuine choke, genuine misses.

Well it would've depended on NiKo's and Hunter's communication. If they would've peeked one by one, then B1T wins easily. But if they would've communicated well and peaked him at the same time, B1T's chance would've dropped significantly

All things considered, G2 did more than well in that Major. I doubt they'd win in that third map, but them winning every match up to that point was astonishing already. Keep in mind, only NiKo had ever made it to the playoffs (same with some players of NaVi, I guess), so perhaps the pressure was on all of them.

Also b1t killed hunter right as niko shot the 3rd bullet i think? Highest HS% on niko is expected tho since he’s a rifler not an awper. Also his adr mightve been a bit higher but im pretty sure his impact rating was lower.
