In the late '80s and early '90s, the hard rock band Guns N’ Roses stood out in the genre for their unique sound built around the guitaring genius of slash and Dizzy Reed’s keyboard and percussion arrangements. But their sound would not have been complete without the distinct sultry and belting vocals of Axl Rose. Rose knew how to tell a story and brought the great songwriting of Guns N’ Roses to life. Unfortunately, for all the passion he displayed while singing and performing on stage, Rose faced a lot of tragedy in his life. To take a deep dive into the tragic real-life of this troubled but talented singer, watch this video!

When something traumatic happens to you, such as sexual abuse when you're young, you sometimes don't grow passed the age in which it happened or become emotionally stunted. So when Axl says he's like a screaming two year old. That's true because he hadn't healed from it. His inner child is very damaged.

It's so sad to think about.. his reactions to certain things like cameras being used or audience members throwing glass bottles, may be a case of re-lived traumas from his past. I'm just speculating, but something as seemingly mundane as that glass bottle being thrown may remind him of his abusive stepfather violently throwing a glass bottle at Axl's Mom which triggers PTSD symptoms, in that very moment on stage he is re-living past traumatic feelings and violent incidents he was a witness/victim of.

For anyone mocking his current appearance, keep in mind that you’re comparing a man truly working through his demons, to a 30+ years younger alcoholic drug addict... they tend to be thinner. I for one, greatly admire his courage to be focused on being mentally healthy, and his courage in being open about it. That takes bravery that very few could ever understand. Axl, I’m proud of you. 🙂

From who's perspective? We rarely see ourselves as we really are. Nor do we remember things as accurately as we think we do. Our brains have the amazing ability to fill in gaps,; like an editing program splicing in to maintain the flow. No, this is not lying, because we really believe our memory as we remember it. By no means am I saying what he claims are untrue, but if you spoke to others around him, you would probably get a different story. I certainly wish him all the best and hope he's overcoming his demons. Always liked GNR's music and as of today, the only person even close to him in overall range is Mariah Carey, but he's at the top of the list of those who've been measured, which probably would surprise many.

To those who insult or make fun of Axl Rose, if you haven't been abused as a child then you have no right to make judgments. You have no idea how difficult it is for them to deal with their trauma. Axl Rose might have done and said some terrible regretful things but he is a better person now. Also, two wrongs don't make a right. This explains a lot. Now I feel bad for having made fun of him. His bad plastic surgery was not the result of the standard body dysmorphic disorder. When he looked in the mirror he hated what he saw because of what those evil men did to him. At some level a victim hates himself for not fighting back ,he was only a small child but you still have the self loathing because of it. I hope he has come to peace with the past. I was not sexually abused but I was beaten on a regular basis by a brother that was 8 years older than me. My healing came when I faced him as an adult then forgave him after he got out of the hospital.

For the most part I agree with everything you said and we don't see artists like that anymore. However that being said and being someone who grew up in that generation I can honestly say I respected the art and can even go so far as to say I love the guy as I love everybody. I never respected him as a man though because he has always acted like a little whiny bitch. Sadly that over shadowed his art to me and for that reason alone I never really went to their concerts or bought their albums. Hopefully he grew out of that though. 😎

@@CJTranceAddiction Of course he didn't mate. That just proves and goes to show you there are plenty of people out there in the world willing to support stupid. lol Also again please don't confuse my opinions about the man as my opinions about the art. I doubt I'll disagree with much of anything you say when it comes to the music. Let's face it though we all know he made a complete ass out of himself on more then one regular occasions. I don't know about you, but I don't see myself traveling miles to see someone in a concert that turns in to a 5 minute tantrum by an over grown child. I had way better thing to spend my time and money on then that bit of stupid mate. lol So my lack of support back then stemmed from his lack of professionalism. Did it hurt him? I seriously doubt it. Like you said. He didn't need it. That being said at the time I didn't feel like I needed it either. When I was younger I was one of those with a very low BS tolerance threshold. So I never put myself in a position to even deal with it. So if you or other people that did that was fine. That was your choice to risk and deal with it. I chose not to and I am perfectly fine with my choice mate. I'd have rather gone to an AC/DC, Metallica, or even a Motley Crue concert instead anyway. lol 😎

@@VelkPwnsAll Ok, to be fair I can understand where you're coming from. But to me, Axl is a musical genius. Incredibly talented to come up with a song like November Rain. To me, his art definitely over powers his weaknesses as a human being. I don't even pay attention to his antics or personal problems. I've never seen them in concert. Let him just keep making masterful songs and that's all that really matters in the end. Peace!

I think this is true of just about any artist, whatever is going on inside of you is what's going to drive your music & determine it's direction. If he had no emotions at all - all of his art would be flat and lifeless, even if he was a painter or an actor. All art is a form of expression, if you have nothing to express; if you lived a perfect life, always shielded from harsh reality by mommy and daddy then you wouldn't have anything to write about, at least nothing that anyone would ever care to hear about.

I got to disagree. Sure Guns n Roses became extremely popular but Guns N Roses didn't make or break the music scene in the late 80s and early 90s. A ton of great music from the late 80s and early 90s came out. Grunge, Hair Metal , prog metal , thrash metal bands were all making albums at the same time as Guns N Roses. I' ll start with the obvious and trickle down to the prog metal bands. Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax were all leading the thrash scene. Tesla, Skid Row,Cinderella, Poison, Guns N Roses were all leading the hair metal movement, Alice N Chains , Nirvana , Pearl Jam were heavy hitters in grunge and last but not least .........the most interesting music from the late 80s to Early 90s was the prog metal scene with Queensryche, Fates Warning , Helloween, Savatage and Voivod leading the way . I realize everyone has an opinion and everyone has a favorite band or style of music but if you take away Guns N. Roses from the list you still have tons upon tons of interesting music. Oh yeah , If better mention Dream Theater for the prog scene because they were the ones with the MTV hit video.

It doesn't excuse certain types of behavior but it does explain it . I personally don't believe in any form of hitting , throwing items ect . as a form of discipline or acting out anger . Hitting a child is not about discipline but about your own anger. Sexually abusing a child is a extreme sickness. I honestly feel sad that he has had to live with all that .

*God bless Axl Rose* Axl Rose is the strongest warrior of life I have ever known. He has been through things that the vast majority of the population could not even imagine. Abused by his father at a very young age, being beaten by his stepfather, being harassed by police and other people in his teenage years, he founded out that his father was actually his stepfather at 17 years of age and was kicked out of his house. He lived alone and being poor, surrounded by insecurity, watching friends die, surrounded by drugs and bad habits. He never had a real mother, he was never understood in his younger years. He had a very toxic love-hate relationship with his first wife, she got pregnant but she lost the baby (not to mention that during that relationship she was also close to dying from an overdose once). After they broke up the relationship she started to accuse him and sue him. After this, Axl fell in love with another woman who had already a kid and Axl practically adopted him as his own (because one of the things he wanted the most was to be a father) she ended up cheating on him anyway. She would also sue him and forced him to never see that kid again. At the same time, after he reached the peak of his success with his band, he could not enjoy it completely for all the psychological problems he had and because the relationship with his bandmates got worse every day, and worst part is that when that project (GnR) in which he had worked so much was over, everyone blamed him. A few years later, that mother who was never there for him died, and Axl's own house caught fire (in fact, Axl himself helped the firefighters with his own hands to put out the fire). He was mired in a crisis, was criticized by everyone and practically locked himself in his house for years while the only one person who took care of him and gave him all the love and support that no one had ever given to him was his housekeeper. People do not take conscience of the things that this man has lived, it really is a miracle that he is alive today. Many of us would have needed just one of the things I mentioned to take our own lives, but after all the things that have happened to this man he is still doing what he loves and inspiring millions of people around the world. God bless Axl Rose.

I mean that's just crazy to me because you guys just oversimplify the word genius when used in description of these people. Or his extended suicidal nature later in his life or the fact that he was excited to be the step father of some other model he was with for a while and how he wanted to prove to be a good father and was for a small while (compared to a lifetime) but things ended when they broke up. There's so much that happened in his life, it's definitely worth a read on any (to say the least) trustworthy websites.

I never liked Axl. But now that I've heard his sad story & that he suffers Bi-polar, I have softened towards Axel. Still not a great fan of his, but have realised that one shouldn't judge and hate on someone, because you really do not know what people have gone through in their lives. And that most people aren't arseholes or douchebags for no reason. Axl Rose has calmed down heaps in the last couple years, and I wish him the best life offers him.

Kym Rush thank god. A genuine comment. Wish there were more like you who actually understood the video.

He's actually a profoundly talented songwriter and musician. But he wasn't mature enough to handle the responsibilities of getting along with bandmates or honoring his fans.

greymajickjedi I've never had any doubt about how talented Axl is, he's a awesome song writer & musician. I always give people their due, even if I'm not a fan or don't like their music etc. I'm not a Gun & Roses fan, their music doesn't appeal to me at all, tho I do acknowledge how important they have been to the music industry, and how much influence they have had.

+Kym Rush Hrrmm... if you acknowledge his songwriting and performing abilities; why do you still consider yourself not a fan of Guns n Roses?

I'm from Indianapolis and still currently live there and I've been to Lafayette many times I couldn't imagine being raised there in the late 70s like he was no wonder he ran off to find Izzy in LA, some say that he even skipped out on bail and that's why he went to California but I kind of doubt that

Literally two weeks ago in school our teacher and girl students all just said they would go to GNR concert just to see him cause he's sooo hot xD, but he is so much more, and when I see people hating on him it really makes me angry.
