My Tacoma was built in that factory. Loved my Tacoma. Drove it for 10 years. And then my Tesla was also built in this factory.

I balked at your claim that Freemont is the most productive car factory in North America. So, I looked it up. As usual, you are correct. Freemont outperforms Austin by a factor of 3, in cars. I continue to learn from you. Thanks. ❤

On May 20, 2010, Tesla announced that it would purchase most (210 of 370 acres) of the former NUMMI = New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. site from Toyota for $42 million. As part of the agreement, Toyota would also purchase $50 million of common stock when Tesla held its IPO the next month. On June 29, 2010, Tesla Motors launched its initial public offering on NASDAQ. 13,300,000 shares of common stock were issued to the public at a price of US$17.00 per share.

Thanks. I followed the early days of the GM-Toyota joint venture. GM meets Deming, who they never even tried to follow as did Ford. As usual, Deming worked; also as usual, GM walked away from it. Read Roger Smith's retirement speech to understand what happens when finance MBAs run manufacturing

Wait, are you saying that that movie (Gung Ho) was based on the NUMMI plant? The plot of the movie is exactly this, and it came out 2 years after production restarted under the new management. Officially it's about a fictional plant in another state, but it's unlikely to be a coincidence. Also, I don't think you mentioned, but the peak output of the NUMMI plant was 428K in 2006, and today Tesla lists the production capacity as 650K (can't find actual production numbers).

I know what Tesla has said about Mexico being the fires place the new 25k car will be produced but….You missed that currently a new short production line is being installed at Fremont to produce…possibly the 25k car for the US market. Mexico won’t be the first place the new car is manufactured. Shanghai is also working on a similar new line.

Great video Lars. One suggestion. Can you replace all of the "old" model S pictures with the new ones? (actually of the older models of X, S ...etc.). The new one looks so much better and it pains me to see older models in the new videos.

Apparently the Legacy Automakers are not paying attention to this series development. This is what they will HAVE to do to survive the next few years. There will be a LOT of people out of work. Sad, but I guess that is progress. Look at Tesla now.....

I Liked the homage to Freemont... that was it's Phase1. I says... The fleet awakens when Highland arrives. Hear me out... Robotaxi will be existing MOD 3s, used cars 🚕 , My guess is the deal will be to offer the current owner a sweet deal "trade-in' the old and receives a new Highland... even Steven. Good morning robo fleet. Watch the job postings, anything to do with related activities, tear-down specialists, Redwood materials is already on standby, What will become of Freemont? Outdated building? Or a refurbishing old school reassembly line/assembly-line. Watch for large orders of any "odd" colors of paint, check the hiring of reapolstery people. Watch hirings for trainees at nonexistent cleaning stations or cleaning contracts for taxi type services... expand the quest...
