Okay, on the "trans men are men but trans women are also men" topic, it's also how people feel about bisexual people. Bi women are seen as really straight while bi men are seen as really gay, and it all boils down to the assumption that everyone will or wants to end up with a man, just like the terf assumption that anyone contaminated with "maleness" in any way belongs on the male side of the aisle.

If I had to guess: they read in a biology texbook that humans all start off female and thought "if your body made testosterone naturally or if you take it artificially then you're male", therefor proclaiming cis women to be the only ones they'd call "real" women. They are petulant children with nothing better to do than shit on a vulnerable minority. I stand with you all in the trans community. 🩷 You are my queer brethren. Trans women are my sisters in womanhood. I'm sorry that some of my fellow cis women are like this. @@bobaoriley1912 It is a disability, but everything else, I agree with you. It absolutely is a disability though. Even with all the accommodations in the world, I still can't take care of my own personal hygiene, my finances, or feed myself on my own. Other than language, I'm quite a high support needs autistic tbh. For some reason, I was never given a DSM-5 level even though I was diagnosed under the DSM-5, but I think I'm a level 2 personally. Bc I can't really socialise outside of my family and like 3 friends lol, I have debilitating mental health problems, and I really struggle with sensory issues and doing "basic" daily tasks. I also struggle to know when I need to use the toilet a bit, but mostly OK with that one. That symptom is more active at night when I'm sleeping than anything. And I also really struggle with my sleep as well. No hate to you, but I think it's just important to remember that even if you don't find autism disabling (which is totally fine 🥰🩷), it's still a spectrum, and for some people, it can be really disabling. Some people can't talk, some people have to wear nappies/diapers. Even if you subscribe more to the social model of disability, it is undeniable that there are disabling aspects of autism that, even with all the accommodations in the world, are still there. My autism personally is very disabling. I can barely leave the house and I will never live on my own. It doesn't mean that I hate being autistic, I love being autistic, I just do wish it didn't have negative aspects as well. But I still am proud to be autistic and am proud to be disabled. 🥰💖 I know you meant no harm by what you said though! /nm /gen

Last year I was chatting with a cis woman in her 50s, and she said “I hate being called a “cisgender” woman! Why can’t I just be a woman?!” And I was thinking “oh no! I only just met you and I was really starting to like you, please don’t be a TERF!” So I said “I have no issue with being referred to as cisgender, and I refer to myself as a cis woman, because all “cis” means is “not trans”. So if I were to refer to me & you as “cis women”, I’d be saying it to not exclude or “other” trans women”. And she said “but trans women are women too! We’re all women!” I said that if only more people thought that way, then maybe we wouldn’t need terms like “trans” or “cis”. I think she got it in the end. But I wanted to give her the biggest hug, and I was so relieved that she wasn’t a TERF!

I think we're in that terrible, awkward stage in between "never heard or seen it" and "yeah, that's normal, why do you feel the need to point it out?". Like, we're currently having a revival of the Lavender Scare, or so is my impression at least. It took us a good three decades to get to a point where being anything other than heterosexual wasn't so much of a shocker anymore. So I wouldn't be surprised if it took us until the 2050s for trans people to be as accepted and normalised as they should be. And by then, we'll hopefully be able to print reproductive organs from stem cells, and people will hopefully be able to access such treatment if they wish to (cis people, too!). And questionnaires would be completely gender neutral, as in you'd have to check off your gender, what your body configuration is and what sort of medical treatment you're looking for, just on a normal basis. By then, the next big scare could be bionic augmentation ("Augmented eyes? But can they see through clothes??"). And/or AI taking over the world. Or some other dystopian sh*t.

I'm glad it sounds like her heart is in the right place, but the "can't we all just be women?" argument is pretty close to the "I don't see color" argument. Sure, in a perfect world, being trans would be just a random fact about a person like eye color, but that's not the world we live in. And until people stop being killed and denied medical treatment because they are trans, it's harmful to not acknowledge the difference being trans makes in people's lives.

Another point about the gender neutral language. There are some women who don't have cervixes and even more women who don't menstruate, so it also excludes the people it doesn't need to include as well as includes everyone it needs to. For example "Women can suffer period poverty" is less accurate than "People who menstruate can suffer period poverty", because a twelve-year-old girl or a trans man are way more likely to suffer from period poverty than an eighty-year-old grandmother. So it's just stupid to complain about those terms. Being a woman is more than just body parts, but in some context it's important to highlight specific body parts or their functions.

Probably because they're so openly hateful that they can't get anyone other than other openly hateful people to agree with them. Plus, to them, anything other than being equally vocally hateful is 'oppressing' them. I would prefer to be called a woman if someone is speaking about me individually but I think that's just basic respect like if someone wants to refered to a certain way then do that if you're speaking about them specifically but I think it's a bit selfish and inconsiderate of random cis women who claim to support lgbtq rights to be like oh well i don't think we should use inclusive language in situations where those people should be included.

@@batsnghostz i mean it's usually used in the context of discussing actual childbirth. if you are pregnant and going to go through child birth, you may be refered to as the woman/mother, the birthing mother (in cases where there are two moms), or a birthing parent (in cases where you are trans or nobinary). If you aren''t going to go through childbirth then you arent typically going to be called that. If you are, i'd think its a bit strange to be bothered by the word 'birthing' when that is something you are literally going to do. They also made claims about children as young as 12 transitioning medically with zero backing evidence. They implied children as young as 12 are transitioning surgically, a procedure with is both unavailable in Australia and also illegal - so they've falsely levied vague accusations of a crime against minors against all transgender healthcare. And I started my own personal bathroom revolution when the line to the women's room was soooooooo long, I was 32 weeks pregnant (just before the whale stage), and there was no line at the men's room. You betcha I walked right in there straight to the stall. One man said wth, I said sorry have to pee, not looking. I peed, left the stall, and kept my eyes to myself to wash my hands. After that, I decided we have to pee, we get to jump to the shorter/no que and go for it. Not the royal we, just anyone I happen to be with in the line. A toilet is just a toilet. And I have never been assaulted or felt threatened by anyone in either needlessly gendered restrooms. For the record, I'm bi, always have been since I was a little kid. I appreciate your discussion on gender neutral language in the medical sphere, Jamie. I also want to emphasize that it’s for the knowledge and education of all persons as well - someone with a cervix needs routine exams regardless of their gender. Someone with a prostate should start getting routine colonoscopies after a certain age regardless of gender. Stating that only women need one or men need another implies that those who don’t fit that niche may not need that care, which puts them at risk for the health issues that those exams are early detection and prevention for.

Hate is a human emotion so being hateful means that you are human. If someone would kill a loved one of yours then you would feel hate, because you are human. Transphobes aren't bad people for hating other people. They are bad people, because they had a stupid reason to hate people and take action to make the lives of those people harder. That is if you are refering to the dictionary definition of the word transphobe. I've seen a lot of people use the word to defend against valid reasoning, because people always seem to accuse people who critisise them of being hateful.

Yep, plus even if you'd had a "normal" cis reproductive system, and used it to make kids, you would have stopped being a woman when you hit menopause. Since they say there are exactly two genders, male and female. "All" women have periods and the ability to bear children, and grew the organs for it themself without transplants or medical intervention. So /by transphobes' own definitions/ post-menopausal, otherwise healthy, cis women *can no longer be defined as female humans*. Can't be a woman, can't be a man, no other human options because of the only-two-genders rule. So... congrats on your post-humanity or ascension or something, I guess? 👍

@@trevorchester4439 "Ok but trans women still aren't women. They're men :)" Reality: Transgender individuals (TIs) show brain-structural alterations that differ from their biological sex as well as their perceived gender. To substantiate evidence that the brain structure of TIs differs from male and female, we use a combined multivariate and univariate approach. Gray matter segments resulting from voxel-based morphometry preprocessing of N = 1753 cisgender (CG) healthy participants were used to train (N = 1402) and validate (20% holdout N = 351) a support-vector machine classifying the biological sex. As a second validation, we classified N = 1104 patients with depression. A third validation was performed using the matched CG sample of the transgender women (TW) application sample. Subsequently, the classifier was applied to N = 26 TW. Finally, we compared brain volumes of CG-men, women, and TW-pre/post treatment cross-sex hormone treatment (CHT) in a univariate analysis controlling for sexual orientation, age, and total brain volume. The application of our biological sex classifier to the transgender sample resulted in a significantly lower true positive rate (TPR-male = 56.0%). The TPR did not differ between CG-individuals with (TPR-male = 86.9%) and without depression (TPR-male = 88.5%). The univariate analysis of the transgender application-sample revealed that TW-pre/post treatment show brain-structural differences from CG-women and CG-men in the putamen and insula, as well as the whole-brain analysis. Our results support the hypothesis that brain structure in TW differs from brain structure of their biological sex (male) as well as their perceived gender (female). This finding substantiates evidence that TIs show specific brain-structural alterations leading to a different pattern of brain structure than CG-individuals. naturally i too shall cut out the trans (and ace!) parts of myself off before attending any community spaces or events again never again shall i walk into my favourite bookshop or cafe as my whole entire self, nor will i darken pride events with my transness and my flags, no, i shall simply only be the bi parts of myself whilst the rest stay at home (/s)

10:41 it just goes back to the age old issue of men feeling like they need to control women no matter who or where they are. They have STILL not left the cave.

I needed this. I have a coworker who's openly transphobic, and I've been feeling uncomfortable around her since I'm not out at work. She's very friendly toward me, and I worry that she will immediately become hateful toward me when I come out. I'm having top surgery in the future and have no plans to change jobs. I'm so scared of people trying to argue with me and waste my time when I'm trying to do my job, especially people I consider work friends.

When have they been ok? Thats a genuine question. A second question i have is how long will it take for the replies to turn into an arguement? Edit:3 minutes, i suppose i shouldve been more specific with the type of argument. I ment transphobic arguements
