When I saw Vagus nerve in my email I had to come watch this right away. I was diagnosed with an over active vagus nerve, my heart rate was very irregular and I would pass out sometimes. After leaving my situation that was triggering childhood trauma and eating healthier the issue resolved. I haven't passed out in years and this was an issue that kept me from being able to be physically active for a long time. I always wondered if there was an emotional connection. I am in therapy now and feel better all the time.

This is actually quite interesting, as I went through a lot of complex trauma as a child, as did others in my family, and I've always wondered what made me different from, say, my mother who refused help and therapy, whereas I sought healing constantly. But listening to this discussion, I realize I've always used singing as a coping skill and if I can't sing or hum for more than a day, I feel irritable and angry and in turmoil. I wonder, therefore, if what set me apart from my traumatized family members is that I had a coping mechanism that is directly linked with the vagus nerve and allowed me to seek help. Just my thoughts.

Depends if she would acknowledge a problem. Maybe when trauma is bad enough, it breaks the person's ability to consciously recognise they have a problem. Maybe your vagus/parasympathetic system was still connected and possible to build up but your mother had lost hers or lost contact with it.

🤯 something about this comment just made a lot of my trauma make sense. Now I feel really angry and sad. I’m also at a place where I can’t even sit with anger and sadness long. I’m at the life’s too short stage. Anyway, 🙏🏼 for the lightening bolt of awareness and understanding. Funny where you find life in your existence and knowledge among fellow travelers. 💝💕💡🥰

Thank you, I've read about this a while ago and am so happy you're talking about it. You're making the connection between biology and emotion. The connection between psychology and spirituality, notice the vagus nerve aligns perfectly with the chakras? We live in the horrible conflict where we know our life isn't at threat, but it FEELS like we are. The constant stress that feels like it has no solution, it's not like our ancestors that knew the direct threat of the stress and the solution (run, kill it or w.e). But it's not like that for us, we can't kill our boss, or run from our debt or our childhood trauma. Thanks for this

You speak truth. Yin yoga and restorative yoga help with the parasympthatic nervous system. Mindfulness works on the brain connections but it's important to get grounded first. Noticed massive difference in a few weeks.. hopefully the pain will be over soon. Its hard when it sends you back down but have to keep plugging.

Great easy to apply tips! I am not a singer but I like to sing and even hum a lot and I always wondered why I have this tendency to hum. I'm now wondering if this is an intuitive response to help my vagus nerve. I recently discovered and admitted to the fact that I have had traumatic experiences that I have repressed since childhood. I'm working on self-healing now and am finding your videos so helpful. Now I feel better about my humming habit. It has probably been me intuitively humming myself to heal. 💖

This makes so much sense to me Last year I had an injury to my neck and head (can't go into detail but similar to whip lash) that caused 2 subdural hematomas. I've told my family that my gluten issues got worse during that time where I could not tolerate any type of gluten whereas before I could. I also had more flare ups of my Rheumatoid Arthritis with back and severe neck pain. My insurance wouldn't approve cortisone shots to my neck, so I was in a lot of pain for many months. It's been almost 2 years and I am no longer as sensitive as I was during my healing from the head and neck injury. It seemed to physically take about 7 months for my body to get over the sensitivities (beyond the gluten issues). I had no idea about this nerve, but I can totally see that the injury caused trauma to this nerve and is why I had so many sensitivities during my healing. Thanks for sharing this important info. I will be more conscious of using the 6 techniques you gave to continue healing any stress to the area

This is good. I wonder, though, if the same things can be applied to someone with high vagal tone (causing vagal Afib)? A nurse told me yoga and deep breathing wouldn't help the dysautonomia, but I don't know. For me, it's like both the gas and brakes are on at the same time.

Thank you for this. Do you believe that there is any positive to the over active sympathetic nervous system during acute times of intense stress? I am currently separating from a narcopath and i am very aware of how on edge I am and how intense breaking the trauma bond feels. I have been having pain in my throat, and I am definitely going to try the gargling. While in this heightened state, I am watching all the weight come off that i put on during this relationship that turned toxic, almost like magic. I wonder if you have any thoughts on how this could also be an effort for the body to balance out in the long-term?
