I got in over my head on this one. I tried to drop a tree from a difficult position and got it hung up in the tree next to it. Now I have to figure out what to do with this tree because it's hanging over the railroad.

Out of service? It's fine, it's a MOW train, not a service train. Totally different.

In the Rockies, they like snowshed. A strong treeshed may be ? And your tankcar will be free of snow.

I wouldn't wait it out... I have a tree like this and it has been hanging on for years! Fortunately mine isn't over anything but a trail, but every time we have a big storm I go check it out and it's still there.

scary seeing it wedge between the trunk and tree! great progression with the video, saw the last entry cannot wait for the clean up!

The cleanup is going to be multiple videos and multiple trains. I need to make a place to store the wood so it dries. I'll have cordwood at the end of it all.

Based on the vid a few days ago, it is a bit late for suggestions. I don’t know if a rolling hitch would have helped you out, or if the tangle of branches would have made that futile as well. Setting the trunk up to rotate rather than a dead pull can make it easier, as does setting the line as close to the cut as possible.

Was a mite puzzled by the appearance of this one as Part 2 showed up first (publically). I assume it was a glitch in the members-first timing?

It was a case of the tree falling before I got the first video edited and not having anything else ready to upload. At the end of shooting this video, I really needed a break, so instead, I pushed even harder to finish a loco for a customer, drove a third of the way across the continent to deliver it, discovered what it's really like to road trip in a battery electric car and took the next week to catch up on work at my day job.

You would have had to have pulled the base of the tree TOWARDS the track, you couldn't do it any other way because of the way it was sitting on the stump. Basically the stump was holding it hostage, now pulling it in that direction the only way to prevent it from falling forward would have been to have the top of the tree braced to remain upright, once you pulled it off the stump then you could push it down the slope, but would've have still probably hit the track bed. If that description makes no sense then it would probably only be describable by a drawing.

@@MillBrookRailroad I knew it was the "before" video, so I guess my advice would apply more so if you have this problem again and not necessarily to the this particular incident.

Months ?, years ? Better to built a shoefly track without ballast with a large curve to bypass danger falling zone if you don´t want to start to freeze in a few months. Since the track is cut in 2, you can have pellet trains from sugar house to that dead zone, transfer load to a second train there up to enginehouse. Or with removed track, built an extension where the track end now at sugar house to your basement / shop. That track would be a smart extension in bad winter for pellet trains. The shorter the better. Also a switch can go there, pass along the house to enginehouse. Leaving former mainline redundant with mileage of track panels for the new branch.....where there is even more trees that could want to play with trains & track. With the main gone, some of its ballast can be reuse on the branch. Or call total abandonment and go HO inside. You could have god dam long unit pellet trains in HO. 2 or 3 high HP units in front, 2 DPU and 2 pushers. That could make cool vidéo. Hummm how many HO large wood chip cars are required for one 40 pounds bag ? X 12, 14, 16 bags.... Well in O scale it should be roughly half. What a fun at 3AM to load cars one by one under loading bin, bring the train close to the stove and rotate cars to feed hungry stove 😊 Nature is writting MILB RR future story book.

I did cut a v in the back side of the tree. I just didn't do a very good job of it. It's a very, very steep embankment.
