By Munger's own words: the models have to be part of your psyche. Learning a model for an exam and explaining its gist, won't cut it. As a starting point, I'd urge anyone trying to think in models, to search into their own lives and experience. You'll find important lessons/ideas you learned, tied to specific, vivid images and experiences in your life. These things, you truly KNOW. These ideas are the your foundation, your raw materials if you will, where upon you'll attach more lessons/models. That's how you end up building the so-called 'latticework' of mental models. Additionally, it's also a game for the long haul and a game where everyday repetition makes it or breaks it. Personally, that's how I think Munger does it. Add to that, he - by his own words - was lucky enough to learn the right ideas young enough and start using them the right way. Maybe the rest of us don't have a similar head start. We'll have to work more.
