Do you ever wish that there was a trombone video game? Well Trombone Champ is the game just for you! I couldn't have imagined a more bonified video game that captures trombone culture so well. What it doesn't capture is a lot of the intricacies that go into real trombone playing. It's okay though, guitar hero isn't the best example of guitar playing so why should trombone champ be any different?

Interesting thing to note: the slide DOES move, it's just very slight and also highly inaccurate. It's most visible at both extremes, but it IS there... If you can see through your character performing yoga

I feel like the devs have to be musicians of some sort with a grudge against trombone players, because it seems like they do know quite a bit, but it's almost like they are intentionally getting things wrong just because they know it will piss off the "tromboners" As a trumpet player, I am 100% in favor of this level of spite

the slide does move, it just doesn’t move as much as you would actually move it because all the notes are in the same register (which in turn is so that the player on screen does the same things you do) the raising of the instrument is just a flair to make it more noticeable when you’re playing high or low

Since the fundamental gameplay of Trombone Champ is not strictly based off of the mechanics of a Trombone, it cannot also be animated like a real one. Since in Trombone Champ it's possible to smoothly glissando from the lowest note to the highest, the positions of the notes on the slide ranges from the lowest being all the way out, highest all the way in, and everything between being exactly between according to pitch. I struggle to think of a way to visually animate the partial changes and the slide positions they imply without also having partials being a game mechanic, which would bring down the elegance of the gameplay and make it less broadly appealing.
