I like how David Ayer originally tried to play the silent humble game and take it in the chin with WB, but now Ayer is speaking up for himself and realizing that closed mouths don't get fed.

He was a bitch and said there is no directors cut and this is the movie, and he's happy about it, while it was in theatres and was making decent money, while in the same time Snyder was buried by the WB. He was a nice team player for the studio, instead of supporting a fellow director and expose the insane studio interference. He made his bed, now sleep in it! I hope his cut never comes out, just because of him and his weakness!!!

@@Wolfhunter5607 apparently he's telling Ayer that he wants some DC movies to make some scores first, but Gunn has been misleading and dishonest about a few things already, it's either he releases the Ayer cut before Superman Legacy or he's not going to let it happen. I really don't see Gunn trying to screw with his audience during his world building like he got rid of most of the DCEU's interest when they still had 4 movies on their roster.

@@joemammon6149 I've read that novelization, btw. Have you? To be honest, I didn't think it really saved the movie or was a great improvement over what we got. Yes, the tone was less comedic but the same plot problems exist there too. The only real differences I recall were some more - largely superfluous scenes - of Enchantress at the beginning, the Joker and Quinn; but really the biggest addition I recall was many more scenes of the SEAL team accompanying the Suicide Squad; Scott Eastwood's character in particular had a much bigger part in the novelization. If it is any way indicative of that earlier draft of the script - and more accurately represents Ayer's vision - then it's a great disappointment in my opinion.

@@joemammon6149 Yeah, but let's be real here: Even if his cut did get released, it wouldn't be theatrical. It would probably a exclusive streaming deal like Snyder's Justice League. I wasn't crazy about Gunn's version either, but in his defense that movie did come out during the COVID peaks and the simultaneous HBO Max/theatrical release that Warner Bros was experimenting with at the time to get around it. I'm not saying the movie would have been a massive hit if that didn't happen, but it did impact the final BO.

It really, really sucks that the execs at Warner/DC didn't allow for the true vision for Suicide Squad. Absolute bullshit. I truly hope that the possibility still exists for the Ayer Cut. He deserves it, the fans deserve it. They were pulling the same shit with Zack Snyder before him. Both of these guys had a unique, darker vision for the DCEU and any negative criticism that they received was completely unwarranted. Also, I'm a massive fan of your work, Jon!! Thanks for this!!

Gunn needs to give Ayer his blessing and launch his vision the way it was intended. It all comes down from Warner Brothers' executive meddling of the source material they have no idea about. It wasn't fair to judge a movie in BVS (the 2nd in the new DCU) by drastically shifting the tone of the whole potential universe based off some critic shills who were invested in Marvel. If they hire a director to do a film they should trust the director's vision from the start. Release Ayer's vision like they did Zack's. Simple as pie.

Also, Zack likes the MCU... he literally just did a thing with the Russos a few months ago and is friends with Gunn (Peacemaker's stunt people were actually recommended to Gunn by Snyder). It's almost like film is SUBJECTIVE and different people have different views on them. While James Cameron may love Zack Snyder's films, Ridley Scott are Terry Gilliam are known to hate them. While Christopher Nolan is a Michael Bay fan, his own brother (Also a very talented writer) disagrees. The resulting message? Being a good filmmaker does not automatically mean everyone has to agree with your views on film, because even good filmmakers disagree. Finally, to put my two cents in, I do like Zack Snyder as a filmmaker. He's got a very distinct style. But he wasn't right for Superman IMO. @@4Everlast I agree somewhat..the fight scenes with those charcoal things?? That was never gonna work. The overuse of CGI too. It's crazy because I genuinely enjoyed the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad when it came out but only because I had this weird gut feeling that there was actually something good there that got butchered on the way out. I never felt that way with either cut of Justice League but I do remember being excited that Ayer was directing SS and I did feel like he was wronged with theatrical release. I hope he does get to heal from it someday and he gets to release his cut.

Shia knew because blockbusters have done the same to him. He was used as the scapegoat for Transformers, Indy 5, & Wallstreet not living up to expectations. It made him look like a “bad” actor, but he was just in bad movies. Only REAL ONES know Shia is one of the best actors out there.

@eliascuzens3325

It has nothing to do with Shia being used as a scapegoat. Listen to what they discuss in the video. Ayer or Shia have an interpretation or vision of what they want to achieve for a film, or it is the reason you got into the project in the first place (director, story, writer etc), and that just gets ripped away from you and you are in a car crash you can see coming miles away and can't do anything about it.. Shia's performances in all those films were praised, it was the film itself that was poorly received.
