Ned Christie is known to many as an Indian Outlaw who was hunted and murdered for allegedly killing a US Deputy Marshal. But many Cherokees see him as a patriot who was wrongly accused. Cherokee historians, descendants and storyteller Robert Lewis recount the details of the Ned Christie story for Osiyo, Voices of the Cherokee People.

Ned Christie is my 3rd great grand uncle. My 3rd great grandfather is his brother, Return Goback Christie. I have loved learning about this side of my lineage ever since I began researching it.

This is one of the most underrated stories in modern history. It is such an amazing story. I can almost promise that if there was a movie made about this that it would be a blockbuster. I just hope that such a story would be at least moderately historically accurate.

In my opinion, Ned Christie was a patriotic Cherokee freedom fighter. I'd also like to see a movie made about him as well. RIP Ned Christie. CHEROKEE PRIDE!!!

I first learned of Ned Christie after reading the novel "Zeke and Ned". Went on to find out everything I could about him. I highly respect this man, even wrote a song about him. Wish I could have known him back in the day.

What isn't mentioned is that he was likely to have been deliberately framed by the railroad companies who he was resisting in council, to stop them building through Cherokee land. What a truly inspiring man - you can see in the photos of him his bright flame of awareness.

Reminds me of the story of my 3greats uncle 'Major' Lewis Redmond. He shot and killed a revenue officer, Alfred Duckworth, and was on the run from the law for just over three years. He claimed to be part Cherokee. I am descended from his sister Elizabeth Redmond Reeves. We believe their mother to be Malinda Williams Redman who appears on the 1900 Dawes Roll. We cannot prove that Malinda Williams and Malinda Redmond(Redman) are the same person. Her first husband, Jesse Williams, abandoned her and his four children just after they arrived in the Indian Territory. We believe she returned to NC looking for him where she met Richard Remond and became our ancestor. Jesse Williams was later found in Texas. We believe Malinda returned to the Indian Territory in the 1880s to get away from the notoriety her son was acquiring in the east.
