Yes ma'am. I have weekly clients that I clean for. Going on 5 years. She is 93 he is 97. I dread that call. I know after 73 yrs of marriage the other will quickly follow. She was having a BAD week last week. I was so sad. I've somehow become the carer when I am there. I will dress her if need be, change her pee clothes, help with her meds either administering & tracking them or refilling (have to call her DIL for this) and I make them lunch. I used to just clean and leave but that is no longer the case.

@@babikatspelman2308I know they will be with God but it still hurts. He has said he is tired and ready to go. She doesn't talk like that but I know day to day is rough on her. I moved states and still drive there every Wed to tend to whatever they need. I've become more than a housekeeper to them. I promised her when I moved that I would not leave her behind. I even turned down a job offer in Phoenix making 3 to 4 times what I make now (annually) because at her age I know it would be hard for her to adjust to someone new and I promised her I wouldn't leave her. How do I go back on that at their advances ages? I told her I would be with her until she's no longer with us.. So I just remember that I made this promise to her and I stay put where I am. They are absolutely wonderful people and I cherish every Wednesday with her. I adore her stories and I listen to them over and over like it's the 1st time I've ever heard it.

Doing payroll is probably hell. I was a timesheet auditor for a couple years and it was for in home health care. They were literally paid minute to minute for tasks they did. Example: insurance allotted the workers 12 minutes to transfer the patient to and from the bathroom. They were allotted 30 minutes for feeding/snacks. It was insane. And so particular. The payroll for that was hell and I had 150 clients I had to do this for every week.

Our hospice nurse for my dad and grandfather (at the same time in our home) was never the one on call at night somehow but the hospice had a nurse that did most night shifts and she got to know us well (both my dad and grandfather had habits of injuries in the middle of the night) she was so nice and sometimes would call and visit in the morning after her shift was over because she would be near by and we always had coffee and eggs from our own chickens 🥰 I miss her, I moved and she came by even after they passed just to say hi and spend some time with us.

When my dad was dying I had a terrible experience with hospice. That’s when I found out that a lot of hospice companies just take the money and don’t actually show up. The first hospice company came out once and then literally disappeared. I found out that you can choose what hospice you want (he was assigned one via Medicare) and was finally able to get the care he needed. I’m glad so many people have a wonderful experience with hospice but that wasn’t mine or my dads.

@@NurseHadley I’m just confused as to why money would have anything to do with caring or doing a job you love. My mom was a housekeeper for almost 40 years!!! She watched most her clients pass. She didn’t care if they couldn’t even afford to pay her anymore. She made friends with a few hospice workers over the years… She passed in July (age 60) and my dad 6 weeks later…. Not only are my brother, I and our kids beyond heartbroken 💔 🥺 but her remaining “clients/friends” are as well!!! Personally I don’t think certain lines of work should have anything to do with pay or talk about it. But that’s just my perspective. Sadly money 💰 brings in people that don’t care like you do!!! I’m really sad 😔 you posted this one! I just found your channel and was connecting, empathising, sympathising and understanding I thought. Again this is only how I see it. No disrespect meant. You are definitely appreciated for your service! Edit: I did notice you are using your own vehicle as well as paying for more than half your gas and that’s Gross approx not net… so actually you get paid pennies for what you do. Which now makes me even sadder!!! Everyday I wish this world would change for the better!! 💔 The powers that be could at least change the titles of people in certain fields from : hospice nurse to ❤soul caregiver/ deliverer ❤ & house cleaner to ♥️ soul cleanser/watcher ❤

I did not do the math with these numbers but, she probably makes around $35/hr for actual work hours and something like $6/hr for being on call. If she takes a call or has to go see a patient, she will get her hourly rate plus the on-call rate for that time. I’m a RN and that’s how most jobs are when being on call is part of the job.

@The Person I can't really compare as I haven't lived in the U.S. The cost of living in NZ has increased dramatically in the last 5 years with minimal increases in wages. In our 2 largest cities it costs well over 1 million dollars to buy a modest 3 bedroom home. The average family income is approx $110k per year. That would usually be with both parents working. Average weekly grocery bill for a family of 4 is about $350. Our family spends about $300 per month on electricity.

@Kathy Ryder Things are very similar here in big cities and even in moderately sized cities. Little pay increases, and EVERYTHING costs more. Normal houses in my area in the Florida panhandle can go for 750k-1m easily. This is property that isn't touristy or new. And yearly income for most is no where near that, under 75-50k for most small families (I MAAYBE pull in 20-25k). 😭

One even came out at 3am in the morning due to a sudden change in my BIL"s health. Not only did she help my BIL to breathe better and get him settled back down, she calmed my panicked nerves and reinsured me I did everything right and sadly this just was him transitioning into the final day(s) of his life, he passed that evening peacefully. I worked home health and I enjoyed it, but we didn't receive hourly pay. We were paid by visit... if someone canceled and if I couldn't fill the slot I didn't get paid. I also worked on call (Friday at 4pm until Monday 8am) every so many weekends and got paid hourly for time that I received a call or documented that I was "working". I loved my patients but having so many cancels in a pay period made it so I was short a lot. I couldn't keep at it. I do miss it sometimes.

Thank you so much for what you do! My grandma was a nurse helping the elderly, and later mentally ill women well into her 70's, and my sister in law became a nurse to help the elderly herself. The huge amount of work they did and the lack of appreciation they got was heart breaking, and more so how little their coworkers cared about their patients half the time. It's hard, it's demoralizing at times, and sometimes it's thankless. But to this day, my uncle comes across those girls my grandma cared for over several years before she passed away, and they always tell him how much they miss her and how much she mattered to them. I know what you do is a bit different working in Hospice, but I just want you to know that this world needs people like you, you're deeply appreciated, and the impact you have is huge. You and your work matter so much, and I just really want to say thank you ❤️

You women are STRONG. Emotional and mentally. I was a caregiver for 6 months. I got super close and emotionally attached to this very sweet older lady. She passed away while I was taking care of her so I had to call that daughter and hospice nurse. When I tell you i bawled my eyes out the second I got in that car. I was so hurt as if I’ve known this women for years and till this day I still get kind of sentimental about it .

You have a beautiful family 🩷. I just found your channel today and have been binge watching since. I’m a private home healthcare nurse. It’s such a great opportunity and career to have. The only not so good thing is you get very attached to the ones you care for and one day they’re gone. I just lost my lady 2 weeks ago but still take care of her husband. It’s heartbreaking when this happens. And I was also over my brother In laws care and medication from Hospice and he lost his battle with cancer almost 2 weeks ago. It’s a lot to lose the ones you love. It doesn’t get any easier.

I used to do home health. This short made me miss it so much. I made soooo much money. I was diagnosed stage IV breast cancer the fall of 2021 and stopped working. Maybe someday I’ll be able to work again.

You have a very special calling and I thank you for sharing these videos showing how helping your loved ones to die at home makes their deaths more peaceful for them and their families. I was a patient advocate for many years and working with hospice patients was the best part of my job. It takes a unique personality to be comfortable with dying patients and their families and like you, I was good at it. Because of health issues, I had to retire early, and this is the one part of my job I really miss. God bless you and all hospice carers for the important work you do.

Wow, you handle this so well! My mom was a home health nurse and it was the most difficult job ever. She saw SO many patients a day, charted throughout, and then came home to us four kids to make dinner and prep for the next day! She charted all night at home and then was on call once a week :( it was so draining for her, so I’m happy to see you have balance and enjoy it!
