Nir - "Neighbourhoods in America used to sing with the sound of children playing!" - lets hope we return to this.

One of the most truly beautiful sounds in the world. Like Rachel Carson's Silent Spring......all gone away. Children today live their lives like convicts. Secretly consigned to ever watchful eyes. Chauffeured around in 24/7 supervision. Mine was a Huck Finn childhood. Most don't even know the value of such a thing anymore. The home of the brave and the land of the free.....has morphed into hundreds of millions of nervous ninnies demanding protection from disturbing ideas. They would trade away all the freedom in the world for safety - from nothing more than an unquiet thought. And the solution to that "problem" appears to be 24/7 distraction. You can hardly miss what you've never known.

Okay I just can't help but make the obvious observation: Over 4,000 views (which is still miniscule) but 2 whole comments. The target audience in question is otherwise busy. I notice this trend elsewhere. People trying to wake society up to things they really need to be aware of...............they get a busy signal. Remember that? The sound of a busy signal? It doesn't happen anymore. And what does that mean? No-one knows anymore, because no-one ever hears it. And what might that mean? I dunno. Could be kinda like shouting into a hurricane.

Maybe there are so few comments because people came to the video to hear about "kids and tech" and it seemed liked it was more about adults and smart phones. To be fair, I skipped around trying to get to the "kid" parts. So maybe the title is misleading and they don't bother to comment on the issues that are already pretty obvious for adults. But I also get "a busy signal" when I reach out to other parents to create a dialog around these issue of my teenage daughters becoming ravaged by social media. I think people are overwhelmed by the tsunami of influences of social media on kids and it's so complex and pervasive that they just wave the white flag and let it take over.

Thank you so much for uploading this, I enjoyed this very much and made lots of notes. I do have a question though as a college student in his 2nd year who has never been to the campus and has never physically seen anyone from my college, what do you think about how college has moved completely online and amidst the pandemic it is not always the best alternative to meet people in person?

What happened in 2007? Netflix released a series called “13 Reasons Why.” Coincidence?

I have lot's of respect for Dr Twenge's work. But should'nt we also question not only how much (3h+) but what is watched? The international comparisons are not valid. Hospitalisation for suicide attempts and ideations are on the rise (Canada+). Suicide remains stable but there are free public hospit + crisis mental services
