Koh Phangan is rapidly deteriorating due to the influx of low-quality construction projects. The new constructions are so shoddy they make sandcastles look like architectural marvels. Not only do they fail to meet international standards, but they’re also wildly overpriced. Thai owners seem more interested in cashing in quickly than creating anything remotely beautiful. Meanwhile, the infrastructure in villages like Tongsala, the island’s “capital,” resembles third-world buildings. And let’s not get started on the nomads-let’s just say hygienically challenged. I've been living here and need to move because besides the private gem where I stay, the rest of Koh Phangan is going downhill faster than a tuk-tuk with bad brakes.

I have spent 11 days on Pha-ngan, just came back. Yes it is very beautiful island, great to explore by motorbike. But many people watching YT movies about the island might think that it is focused on vegan, Orion and fitness stuff. Reality is much different - yes west coast is full of this kind of Western locations but the whole vibe is different and living here is more natural and easy. Actually you can meet many local people and feel good. It is not all about gym, Orion, Xantiva and coco loco like in YT movies 😅 I think it is connected with payment collaborations with KZfaqrs they keep showing all the same locations and stuff. Overall highly recommended! Island is great and you can find many local spots with good food

Really love all your videos, Joose. You’re def in my top 3 of my favourite, kind, calm and honest (!!) KZfaqrs! The authenticity really shines through, and I always come out feeling I learned about the positive and not so ideal sides of the places you’ve visited (many of which I’ve been to, I live in SEA too). Last but not least, you’re the cutest Finn I’ve seen haha. Anyway, keep rocking and keep up the good work and enjoy! 💪

It’s more than well deserved, Joose 💪 Also, all your editing and the quality of image and sound are always really top-notch. You make places look so beautiful. I’ve given up my Berlin home and permanently relocated to Da Nang as my base! I got a lot of stuff, electronics, clothes etc, so don’t wanna live out of suitcases anymore. And I need some city life, living on a beautiful small island isn’t for me long term. I also value living in a city with a lot of locals, not artificially overrun by tourists or expats like Bali etc But I think Malaysia and Thailand are also really great. Penang could be like a Da Nang Alternative for me if I ever needed one
@JooseTheNomad
@JooseTheNomad 3 ай бұрын
@@marsfuture thank you! Oh nice, you don't feel it's not so good as 99% of the locals don't speak english here in Da Nang? It feels kinda isoleting to me that most people I come across can't communicate with, otherwise I really love the city! And I agree that also couldn't see myself living on a small island long-term. That's why Bali has been my favorite as it's bigger and has literally everything!
@marsfuture
@marsfuture 3 ай бұрын
@@JooseTheNomad Yeah, I think Bali is a real "love it or hate it"-place right now! I think you gotta suck up the small narrow road infrastructure and traffic jams and the particular "uber-cool influencer crowd" or domination of certain nationalities like in Phuket etc. On the up side, the at times more "arrogant" Bali nomads are more professional than in places like DN, so you can network on a higher level there if that's what you're after :) I think I still enjoy a skyline, a city infrastructure, an international airport, the proximity of Hue and Hoi An like here in DN. Also a really cool electronic music scene here, so many nice and fashionable bars and restaurants, etc. Nothing beats the variety here for me, also landscape-wise, and I really really like and respect the Viets and think the younger generation is really cool and fashionable and ambitious, and many speak English well in my experience or are studying to improve it. I'm actually learning Vietnamese now (haha quite challenging with 6 tones!) so I hope I can communicate with them soon in their own language a bit ;)
@JooseTheNomad
@JooseTheNomad 2 ай бұрын
@@marsfuture yeah for me personally, staying in a good area the traffic is not a problem and any nationalitites or certain type of people almost never bothering me. It's a mindset issue more in my opinion :) But yeah agreed! Where did you meet these English speaking Vietnamese?😄 Hahah nice good luck with that!

To make up for the lack of surfing there are 2 different seasons with good kite surfing on Kho Phangan, one right where you were staying up in Chaloklum and the other right near Thong Sala. Both are a bit on the shallow water side which is great for kite surfing but might make wing foiling not an option.

Thank you! I'm posting my videos 0-2 weeks after filming so you can always check the publish date and know that it was filmed around that time😊 I was in Koh Phangan this year in February & March and the weather was mostly great! I have been there before in November/December and it was very rainy most of the time. I never been in June but I heard it gets very hot! Probably more rainy and humid so it can be a bit uncomfortable. But good thing is that it's a small island and driving in nature is always more comfortable than in a city even if it's hot and ocean is there always for a refreshing dip! So, not optimal but I'd think it would be still fine! Bali on the other hand has the best season in June, but it will be very busy there so a different vibe but I also love Bali and there's so much you can experience there! I'd go to Bali because of the weather but it depends :)

Ko Pha Ngan is beautiful. But I don't like the way all the foreigners there take off shoes whenever going inside even restaurants or cafes. Maybe they think Thais do that, but they don't. Thais only take off shoes at peoples homes, not restaurants or cafes. Maybe it is some spiritual or new wave reason, grounding? Anyway, I have a bad knee and it hurts to go barefoot and it drives me a bit crazy when everyone is going barefoot for no reason and I get nasty looks if I don't too.

Dude you don’t feel connected to the people because you are everything they are trying to avoid, the influencer and starting a business vibe. I wish people would just go home and work and then let free places be free. Everyone’s so entitled to work and live anywhere when the cost of money was freedom and location. Now all these places are getting ruined for people who strived their whole lives to escape that grind and those types of people. People forget you’re in a 3rd world country and they feel entitled to 1st world privileges but then complain when it isn’t what it used to be…Accept it for what it is it isn’t a resort to pamper you be grateful you have the means and health to even be there, Good luck .
