I asked Singapore locals at Plaza Singapura what they like and dislike about their own country. I also asked whether or not they find it expensive to live here and what would make Singapore a better place.
Let me know in the comments what your opinion about living in Singapore is or if you could imagine living in a different country? 🤗

All those people once they live overseas then only they will appreciate Singapore. They choose to live in 1st world country and they Will pay 1st world cost price of everything. Then only reality hit them. Its not fair when they compare the cost price in Singapore with the neighbouring Asean country.Singapore can't beat them. Do these citizens have a good living in their own country? Some have to seek job in Singapore.Even its cheap they still have a hard life.Singapore is not perfect, but I appreciate everything I have here.

Not everywhere in the 1st world is more expensive than SIN. I have a good friend in Australia. A doctor with 20 years experience, but no other speciatly experience. He pulls in over 200K PA doing 40 hour week, with 2-3 months holidays whenever he wants. How much does an average ER doctor earn in SIN? Google tells me it's up to SGD 140K. How much does a Corolla cost in SIN? A COE? A private condo/apartment? Want a house on a plot of land, with a backyard? Want to go for a country drive? Surfing? Want democracy with multi-party politics? Want free healthcare? Just saying there are many reasons why many who can emigrate might consider it.

@RUHappyATM If you're a singaporean, you would know the reason why car and house are expensive in Singapore.Singapore is not a welfare country but doesn't mean there's no assistance from the government in the healthcare.Medifund is for a low-income family.

A word of caution on Malaysian food though they are said to be delicious and some say better. First the hygiene standards are not first world. Those street foods you encounter, was when Singapore was in the 60s, which precisely was the reason for the Hawker Centres being organised to gather all street food together. All stalls have a hygiene grading of A,B, C, displayed on the front. Also, the distances you have to travel between food places. Case in point, Maxwell, Chinatown Complex, People's Park are about 100m apart.

Personally, the only negative thing about Singapore is high pressure, but after moving to Australia where work pressure almost doesn’t exist, I would say that when no one have pressure at work, the society just cannot move on well. Higher standards of living come with a price tag. My friend who is French went to Swiss to work. he said everything over there is super expensive but the standards are high. One such example, you don't have to worry about construction workers doing shoddy work. About Singapore, Singapore has quite several top 1 to 5 positions in several standards - Our airport for example. Our GDP is also one of the highest in the world. Even WSJ reported that our military deployment is one of the densest in the world to deter and protect our tiny island. All the decisions and standards come with calculation, sharp judgment, and a non-negotiable anti-corruption system. Try to live in Africa or third-world countries and you get to appreciate Singapore more.

Also, for a foreigner to leave their hometown and family to come a country which they do not know, it's not easy for them too. Don't behave like China which most of them cannot take criticism. Every countries have their own flaws. You may like Singapore, some may not like it. Doesn't mean they gave their dislike equals to "Singapore is bad". We just have to keep improving. JH-kv8mt...Pls calm down. Don't need to hyperventilate. This is the kind of rhetoric, the people up north will use against Singapore. Get emotional and then 'verbally attack Singapore'. (Toxic, Childish & Irresponsible) The usual toxic rhetorics: - Shut The Tap - Malaysia & Indo gang up against Singapore - Put a stop to Malaysian workers working in Singapore. FLASH NEWS. REALITY CHECK: - You have NO AUTHORITY to shut the tap. Such authority only comes from your leaders. The water treaty is acknowledged and registered in the UN. So NO SUCH DECISION will be entertained. Singapore is already 65% reliable on its water technology. By the time the treaty ends in 2060...Singapore will be about 85% reliable on its own water technologies. Remember, Singapore buys raw water from Malaysia and sells back treated drinkable water to Malaysia. Does Malaysia have water technology? - Gang up on Singapore? Stop acting like a 3rd rate Mafia who carries a NERF blaster, threatening neighbors. The 2 countries don't even have a REAL Annual Defence Budget. Let's not even talk about Expertise, Hardware, Technology, Global Connectivity & Clean Loyal Politicians. ( I will never forget 9th August 1991.) - Are you sure, your people will STOP working in Singapore. They want a better life. Earn in Singapore Dollars and spend in Malaysian Ringgit for their retirement. There is always another option to have other foreign workers into Singapore.😊 Just look at the recent Taylor Swift ERAS TOUR. So many immature and irresponsible neighbors whining. ( you didn't achieve it because you didn't put in the effort to be Vigilant, hardworking, smart, sharp and trend savvy. ) I hope PM Anwar will do glorious work for his people. Regardless of race, language and religion, we need to collaborate with as many countries possible. Then only will the economy be viable. Stop accusing other countries of having stronger currencies. Stop whining.
