Hey Michael, I was an orphan kid lived in bad foster homes and orphanages for 18 yrs. I was a skinny white kid too small for football. Met some people when I was in college who took me in and made me part of their family. I loved them and they loved me. No money involved and there was no conservator paperwork. I am grateful for what they did for me and never asked them for anything. They were great Grandparents to my kids and my wife loved them too. They would have gladly given me anything I asked for. You landed in a good Briar Patch and you don't realize it. You need to rethink your situation and express some gratitude. Hope you see the light.

The difference between you and Michael is he's almost 40 and he STILL has a conservatorship on him. They can snoop on his finances anytime they please. He has the right to get that off of him. It's not shameful to ask for that. Also it's not a good look to tell someone a conservatorship is basically the same as adoption. It's not. He's never been legally part of the family. To add more salt to the wound, the movie made him look like a dumb dumb. He feels betrayed. Try to understand him.

They most likely put it in place to protect him from his real family who according to the movie were not great people. If they had not taken him in he would most likely be on drugs and running with gangs , they put him through school and helped him with his career , homed and fed him, put clothes on his back but most of all they gave him a loving family . My bio mom had 13 kids and thank goodness we were all saved by the kindness of other families. I don't know where I'd be otherwise. I went on to "pay it forward" and I hope Michael will soon see the light and do the same. Michael spend a few weeks on Skid Row. Become a foster parent. Help others. It is your duty to pay it forward instead of being greedy and playing the victim over and over. Had you done any of these things, your next book would have been a big hit. I would never dream of trashing the family that gave me a new life. Michael shame on you. You have much to be grateful for. Stop and think of where you could have ended up without their love and caring heart. A Plea to the public-children need help-don't turn them away because of this sad story. It truly takes a village.

One of the things everyone has forgotten is, this is not solely Michael's story. This is the story of the Tuohy family also. There would be no story with out them. Michael never would have gotten a schlorship to any university with out their support, or the tudors they funded. He had a GPA that was way too low to qualify not only for a scholarship, but also college admissions. He likely would not have finished high school. The Tuohys traveled that road by Michael's side and held him up the whole time.

But, he has been repeatedly told that he gets no credit for his accomplishments. That is not true. The ones looking at it that way are the racists. The Tuohy's were worth several hundred million dollars when they opened up their home to Michael Oher. Who do you think paid the tuition costs for that very elite Briarwood private school that they somehow got him into? They hired tutors to work with him because he had no GPA that would allow him to even graduate from high school much less attend a university. Mr. Oher had serious problems. Only he knows why he is trying to shake down the only real family he has ever had. Everything Michael Oher has had or ever will have is made possible through the love and generosity of the Tuohy's. Guess what? Had the Tuohy family never crossed paths with Michael Oher, they would still be worth several hundred million dollars today. What if Michael Oher had never been taken in by the Tuohy family. There would no All-American LT who attended Ole' Miss on a full ride athletic scholarship. He would not have been a #1 draft choice of the Baltimore Ravens. He would have not been named as an All Pro several times during his career. There would be no Super Bowl ring on his finger. Yes, Michael earned those honors and all that money due to his talent, however, had the Tuohy's not brought him into their family and provided him with the education and opportunities critical to his overall success, he would have never gotten out of the streets of Memphis. That's a fact.

Coincidentally, the wealthy BOOSTERS moved into their home the All American poor black kid who had all kinds of notoriety in sports at their kids school (he was 38th in the NATION) and he just so happened to end up going to their alma mater where they are BOOSTERS. Both my brother and I competed on the collegiate level with full scholarships (football and basketball) and I know all to well the things that “boosters” do to get a player to go to their school. Likewise his mom knew as by legal standpoint his mom had to be notified of it so if she so chose to object the Touhys, she could. She did not and was in court when the Touhys were appointed. It has been said countless of times in articles why conservatorship happened vs adoption. Likewise, another reason not stated but damn sure it was thought about is if the Touhys adopted that would have stripped his mom of her parental rights. The fact that Oher negotiated his own NFL contract, which he wouldn’t have been able too if the Touhys actually acted on their conservatorship rights. He wouldn’t have even negotiated his own book deal for crying out loud. Zip nothing. As for the book and the blindside movie, financial evidence is easy to find and investigate, but it was both of their story not just Oher so no surprise there that the Touhys got a slice too! This isn’t anything new. From experience I can tell you that when a family member passed away without a solid living trust. The family meaning the siblings, kids, sometimes relative will do anything to get their piece of the pie. Sometimes never speaking to each other ever again. This is what Oher did to the family that loved him.

This is sad. They gave him so much. Yet, he wants more. They took in a 18 year old homeless boy and helped him get through high school and college. They paid for Tutors. They helped him get his driver's license. They purchased vehicles for him. Micheal Oher wasted the money he made from the NFL. The family sold off the restaurant chains to retire. Now, Michael Oher wants a part of the restaurant retirement money in his greed.

HER HUSBAND WHEN SHE MARRIED HIM = HE ALREADY OWNED over 300 franchised Restaurant's his net worth is 180-250 million dollars . They were worth this when she first met Oher who was 18 at the time , folks you cannot adopt and 18 yr old . Oher was at best and avg NFL player , his earnings for his entire career was 16 million gross and then 33/13 to the agent federal and local taxes= he is now broke because he was to ignorant to keep the 8 million he had left ! So now this ! Had it not been for these folks he would I never made it to NFL they sent him to schools where he could . The Tuohy's got just 100k for the movie . He officially retired in 2018. The Tuohy's sold their restaurants in 2019 for more that $200 million dollars. Seems to me he feels he's entitles to a cut of that. He admitted he had a tutor for years, yet cries about being portrayed as stupid. He seems to be ignorant of the fact that if his GPA was 2.5 or less (I'm pretty sure 0.06 is an indicator of an extremely low scholastic score.), he would have NEVER gotten a high school diploma, a scholarship to college, nor been eligible to be drafted by the NFL. but, the Tuohy's didn't really help him. He's living in an alternate reality where he took charge of his life and destiny without any help. Yeah, right!😅

I'm glad people on the other side are talking about this. "Never bite the hand that feeds you" is how I've been raised. He makes it sound like he's a victim, and he's making it harder for others who are struggling with homelessness because now people will have to step back and reconsider if they might put themselves in a position which might make them appear negatively when their intentions are that of a helping nature. It sounds like he's become used to a certain lifestyle and now that he can no longer maintain that lifestyle, he's playing the ghetto card by victimizing his situation. Maybe they tried to help him by getting him to do other things, like their own kids, rather than mooching and feeling sorry for himself? He made some harsh claims, even if he's right, whatever money is to be had from the conservatorship wouldn't amount to what he thinks he deserves and it wouldn't get him far. It's unfortunate he felt it was worth burning a bridge between people that helped him, but he'll know his worth soon enough. It wouldn't surprise me if he sued them again for making him believe in himself instead of helping him cope as a pos.

Exactly. I spent 5 years as a homeless cancer patient before being rescued and sponsored by a nice person. This person paid my housing costs. This person paid for my medical. This person paid for everything that I needed until I was able to get my Social Security. My person was a blessing. Cases like this where a person sues someone that helped them are going to have the people stop helping others which is a shame. Without the person that helped me, I would have died on the streets as a homeless cancer patient. Now, I pay it forward and do the little things that I can to help others.
