MY STORY:
In 2016 I had been in law enforcement for 7 years.
I was not in control of my schedule, I was hardly making any money, and I was away from my family working nights and holidays. I was capable of more, and I was silently suffering. I knew I was selling myself and my family short.
I started Florida Turf Pros as a side hustle in 2016 before going full time in 2017.
My lawn business changed my life.
I control my own schedule, control my own income, and I am proud of what I have built; a business that supports me, my family, and some employees.
If you are a lawn care business owner, this channel will be a valuable resource for you.
This really is a great industry to be in, and I hope that by documenting my journey it will help you.

What if you really wanted to build route density... because you know it's what can turn your lawn business into a profit machine... what would you do??? Here's what you should do. WHATEVER IT TAKES. Door knock, 5 arounds, introduce yourself to the neighbors, ask if they need help with anything, write up a targeted sales letter to the STREET your working on... Yes, the STREET. You MUST be willing to go ALL IN if you want to make big money mowing lawns. You have to do whatever it takes to work for several hours in each. neighborhood you're in... That's the goal... SEVERAL HOURS of work in EACH neighborhood. You can do it!

I agree with smaller properties paying better. Also agree with route density. I’ll sure be happy when the spring grass slows down here in Pennsylvania. Right now it takes two guys from 7 to 5 to do 22 yards. Grass is very thick and needs double cut and blown. Once the grass slows down and mowing stuff like you are in video, we can do 22 yards by 2 pm. The spring grass is crazy up here. Needs mowed twice a week but that just doesn’t happen.

Inflation is hitting clients in my area. In rural areas, there is little route density and very few small yards. Lots of 1-2 acre yards. I did some landscaping for an older woman who pays a lawn service $85 to cut 2 acres. I'm not sure how they make a profit unless they don't have the required licenses and insurance because based on the time it took, they probably make less than $400 a day with 2 people.

I did 11 yards today by 2pm and tired out. Of course my route is no dense because it's for a real-estate owner so I just focused on knocking his yards out so I can get paid. But I'm trying to get more productive. 21 sounds like a goal that will take some time.

I don’t think he is bashing anyone. Just grind it out and as soon as you can upgrade do it. I started with a push mower and now have multiple standers and zero turns. Just make it a high priority to get the equipment because it opens up the opportunity to do way more work and increase revenue.

@FloridaTurfPros I get it 100%. Even 5 around, you can hit, and they never respond. As far as the door knows, I agree they don't work well, especially in today's sheltered society folks won't answer or jump to social media like next door and whine about why people are knocking and call law enforcement it's totally weird.

Problem is it's the random calls where you pick up 1 here and 1 there within your focused area. Within a few minutes drive. I'm not sure or understand how you can be in a neighborhood week after week with letter trucks and trailer and be able to pick up 3 or 4 in it even if they are 1 street apart. It's extremely baffling.
@FloridaTurfPros
@FloridaTurfPros Ай бұрын
Marketing efforts get you "into" a neighobrhood... it's the ground and pound work that builds the route density in those neighborhoods... 5 arounds, door knocking, targeted sales letters to particular streets, etc.

Cutting with no basket, obviously save you guys time where I am in North Jersey. Everything gets cut with a basket. Most the lawns are tall some houses you’re filling up a green barrel with each house a lot of grass and it’s time-consuming.

Be careful flying through these properties in 10 minutes. A homeowner customer will think why bother paying for service when I can do this. Always always take 20-25 min per lawn. Make it feel complicated and a hassle for a home owner so they keep your lawn service going forever. If not you just lost another lawn account because home owners purchased lawn equipment.
