Today's episode kicks off a new chapter in the "Expediting America" saga as I take my first load as an owner operator! We start todays trip picking up 7 miles away from where I was in sunny Sarasota Florida. We are picking up Newley coated machines parts and hauling them 511 north to Atlanta Georgia. Thank you Daniel! Just be careful. This one had 9k miles when the guy before me got it. They do a lot of stop and go around town so breaks wear and they don’t take care of them so don’t get one with more than 50k miles

This reminds when I worked at a store unloading trucks. We had a grappler jaw setup with a chain that would grab the center of the pallet for pulling. I have no idea how much it cost, but it worked well.

Congrats on the new van. Ive done as much research as I can with the next step getting the van. The best quote I got for insurance was around $150/week that is with my own DOT# 1 million Liab and 100,000 cargo ins. I would have to subtract that number from my total load amount like the gas expence. I know I have to factor that in as an expense along with the gas. What are you paying for insurance? Really? I tried dispatching once. Hated it. I would charge more than 14% to do it. All the time spent staring at a screen, placing bids, emailing/calling brokers, on top of that dealing with brokers calling every few hours. They deal with all that and all I have to do is drive? Lol industry standard is 10-15%. The funny thing is people will comment “cheap load” or “to much dispatch fee” but won’t tell me where to get better loads, or tell me a carrier that charges a smaller fee. 😂🤣😂🤣

Are you goin to eventually try to do your own dispatching later on down the line? 14% is a bit much for a dispatcher fee. I was wondering were you goin to use the same people but I see your are. Industry standard is 10-15% it would t be worth it to be a dispatcher if it was less. 🤷‍♂️ if it’s a dollar a mile and the average load is 500 miles that’s only 70 bucks for a dispatcher to spend hours searching for loads, talking to brokers, negotiating, as well as being bombarded with phone calls and texts on updates while I’m on the road.
