I finally got to try one of my Springbok puzzles! This 500 piece set is called The Fruit Stand. I picked this up during a sale in one of my previous haul videos, and I couldn't wait to get this one started. This image is absolutely awesome, but in the end, I was a bit puzzled by the overall quality. I really need to try more sets from this brand to solidify my overall opinions about Springbok.

Yes, if you can get your hands on a vintage Springbok from the 60's or 70's, (80's probably too,) ... PLEASE DO! Their quality was SO much better back then! (I have started a vintage Springbok puzzle collection and whenever I'm lucky enough to find one at a thrift store, I nab it right away!) I love the way it feels to sift my hands through the pieces and the satisfactory feeling the pieces give when I fit each piece into it's place.❤ I would love to see you do a video comparing old to new Springbok puzzles. 😊

I've been looking through Ebay, and I'm amazed how expensive the 60s sets are! But then again, I can't be too surprised considering everyone says that was their best run. Ideally, I would like to get one from each decade and compare them all.

Yeah, the ones online are quite pricey... I think those who don't realize what they're worth tend to just send them to their local thrift store and they're sold for like $5. I have been thrilled each of the few times I've found one.

I absolutely adore the way you roleplay your puzzle. For gardening, I always recommend growing radishes from seed first. They grow super fast and are very easy. You'll get hooked after seeing your seeds sprout. I grow mine in a giant flower pot at the front door.

😁I must be one with my puzzle! I can't help it LOL. I'm happy to know that so many enjoy my puzzle roleplay/stories. It really is my thought process when I'm shopping and deciding which puzzles to get. The connection is very important to me. I love radishes! That will have to make the list of ones to plant first when I finish my backyard. Thank you!

I do like to make the best out of any puzzle experience, whether the quality is good or bad. I did still really enjoy it, but I just love that image. Nothing better than escaping into a puzzle...except maybe an actual vacation 🤣 That's also my concern with starting speed puzzling. I like to take the puzzle image in as I'm completing it.

I grew up building Springbok puzzles with my Mom in the late ‘60s, so Springbok can do no wrong in my eyes. This was a great review of the newer Springboks and right on the money. I actually love the thickness, as I also put a lot of old Tuco Tripl Thick puzzles together when I was young. If you’ve ever seen one of those you will get what I mean 😊 And since you asked, here in central California we always had success growing tomatoes, string beans, carrots and zucchini.

I'd love to pick up a set from the 60s and see what they were like. It's sad to hear from so many others how the quality has changed so much over the years. I need to look up Tuco puzzles now, that sounds interesting. Oooo I love all those veggies! I'm thinking about trying out tomatoes and zucchini first. I'm in northeast PA, and I think they all grow really well here as well.

I really like Springbok but spongy is the perfect word to describe them. I've had pieces where I think "huh no way can I get these to fit" and it takes going back a second time and really wiggling them in place to get them to go together. Once they do, they fit great but it for sure takes me a little effort sometimes to get them locked together. I don't mind it because I enjoy the experience so much but it does mean I'm picky with the puzzles I'll do and need them to have a nice clear image so I can tell what should go together.
@thepuzzledmandy
@thepuzzledmandy 11 ай бұрын
I agree with everything you stated. What you said was exactly what was happening to me! The trying to wiggle to fit it in was a lot, almost as if it was the wrong piece, but it wasn't. It does stand up well once its been completed, but you'd never think it would whilst you were trying to complete it. Just felt like it couldn't fit in. Like you, I always make the best of it and enjoy the process, no matter the quality situation. But yes, it does make you reconsider certain brands when you're shopping for new sets.

Springbok deff takes a few times to learn real edges- I just hold my finger tip on the "edge" if I can feel any curve I know it's a false edge. I adore springbok because of the fun shapes. I haven't noticed it being spongy but when it's humid I notice that with all my puzzles.
@thepuzzledmandy

I'm just so bad trying to figure out the edge with my fingers. Sometimes those curves are so slight that I just can't get it. I really did love the fun shapes as it threw in that challenge. Regarding humidity, I'd be curious to see how my next puzzle feels. I didn't think of that.

I've had great experience with both old and new Springbok puzzles. I have some from the 60s where the pieces seem really thick and well-made. I've bought Springbok since then whenever an image appeals to me. I've never had a missing piece or a misfit with their puzzles and I love the snug fit. The only negative I have for that brand is that so many of the puzzles have photographic images whereas I prefer artists' paintings.

I find it so interesting how brand quality changes so much over time. I have heard great things of vintage Springboks but I've never had any person experience. Thank you for sharing your findings. It was enjoyable to visit your farm. I was wondering if you had seen any of Ravensburger's "My Haven" series? Each scene is from the POV of a woman. They are definiately meant for the puzzler to put themselves in the scene. Each one is a different location/theme. There is a tea shop, cozy cabin retreat, a beach scene, and more. To me, they scream Mandy. I would love to see you do one and to see which one you like best of the series.

I have actually seen "My Haven" puzzles at my favorite puzzle shop, and I nearly bought it! It's so awesome, and definitely a series I want to start collecting, because you are right, that's so me in that image. I think it was in my very first "Puzzle Shop With Me" video where I spotted it. Boy now I will now maybe notice things in my springbok puzzle that I never did. As I told you I made this puzzles but in the 1000 piece puzzle pieces. I still think they are one if the best for tight interlocking pieces. I am 😞 you didn’t like it more I have never thought about how the fell while holding them or thought about the sponginess. Also I usually build the puzzles I buy 2 times or more especially the 500 ones that I have guite a few of I like doing them for an easy puzzle to make. The older 500 pieces pieces stat together really well. I am now making a bufallo puzzle called vintage summer books. I love the poster you get but you really need the poster with the smaller box and pieces.

I did like how it held tight in many areas of the puzzle, even when it didn't look like it would. This for sure stays together when you hold it up too, which is great. I do plan to put this one together again, as I did still enjoyed the process and of course the image! I don't usually buy 500 piece sets, mostly because I like to get as much puzzle time as I can from a purchase. But you're right, 500 pieces is fantastic when you want to get a quick puzzle fix, and this was great for that. And honestly, I'm looking forward to trying out my other Springbok set and seeing if there's any differences. My full opinion of this brand is not set in stone until I try out more from them! The adventure continues! Ooo I do love Buffalo sets! I really need to get started on another one soon.

It's interesting isn't it, how brands can vary over the years. I've only done one Springbok and just recently bought another. I have heard that the older Springboks were better quality than the ones available today. It may well be to do with cost. Top quality puzzles can cost quite a bit of money and not everyone can afford to pay higher prices. Vicky Makes & Builds did a video about Unified Pieces jigsaws but for me the prices are too high. The sale price was £32 so just over $40 and that was without postage costs. The full price was £36 or just over $45. You get what you pay for, so low prices would equal low quality, high prices should be top quality.

It is very interesting, and more interesting that they end up going downhill. But like you said, it may very well be cost, which usually tends to be the number one deciding factor in most companies. Wow, that's a very pricey puzzle! That would be a splurge to me. I tend to feel like just because something cost more, it doesn't always mean it'll be the best thing ever. Different aspects in quality can be an issue to some, while others won't even take notice to it. Everyone has different preferences. But I'd be really curious to pick one up myself just to see what I think to it. I'm gonna look into it. For that price, my experience better be perfect or extremely close to it 🤣

I wonder if the filmy residue feel has something to do with the puzzle's place in the production line, rather than being a constant symptom of the brand? I bought a ton of Galisons a few years ago when they were having a 40-60% off sitewide sale, and some of them fit outrageously tight, some were loose and wouldn't stay together when moved, and some were perfect. I actually contacted the company, and they said if the puzzle is cut with new blades, it will be looser, and as the blade dulls, it cuts less "thoroughly" (forgot the word she used) and it becomes tighter and is more likely to have two pieces stuck together that never fully severed. I'm wondering if residue is the same, since I did two Heyes puzzles recently and one felt like gold, and the other made me feel like I needed to constantly wash my hands.

Sorted while I listened to you. I must say, I'm completely unimpressed. The cut is terrible and the image layer has tiny, fine cracks along many of the cut lines. The pieces don't fit together great either. Is that your experience with the brand? I keep meaning to mention, every time you dump a dusty bag onto your surface, I cringe a little, lol. I always open the bag into the box and sort from there. That way, most of the dust stays in the box. Now if I could just keep the cat hair off my surface. LOL

I do love the shape variety, there were a lot of crazy ones in there. I did a Masterpieces review way back (Hershey's Candy Shop), and if I remember correctly, I had some of the same issues, some damaged pieces too I think. Still very much enjoyed it because I loved the image. I really need to do another Masterpieces set as its been a long while since. 🤣Sorry about the dusty bag dump! Honestly, the only reason why I keep doing it is because I love the sound it makes when the pieces scatter on it, and I like the contrast against the lighter background. But I do spend quite a bit of time brushing off some of the dust after I'm done with completion LOL. I think the only time I dumped it in the box was for my first Ravensburger set, because I immediately noticed how much excessive dust was in that bag before I dumped it.
