It is illegitimate for the government to require a permit for regulating the use of water for ANY reason except for large commercial use, as in a chicken farming operation. What do you do as a homeowner when you piss off the government enough that they deny or terminate your permit because they don't like the fact that you are a so-called "Christian Nationalist" and are deemed a threat to the evil regime in power? You, sir, is what is called a useful idiot. All of the fears people are concerned about with the issues of personal water use and small private food gardens are reality. UN Agendas 21 and 2030 specify a global population, IN THEIR OWN PUBLISHED WORDS, of only 500 million, the excess simply dying for want of medical care and being killed off by whatever means are necessary, including starvation. Please WAKE UP, sir! Do a little research... UN Agenda 21 is a great place to start.

Illegal pot farming in California has led to one of the greatest water usages in our state. Aside from that, population & business growth in California has been another factor in the decline of water availability. The amount of rain and snow fall across California has not decreased by any marginal significance in over several decades... it is not drought nor 'climate change' that is causing our water shortage, it is continued growth, demand, and mismanagement of our water in our state... as I am sure it may be in Oregon as well.

Everyone seems to forget that the water bottling corporations continue to pump and pump and pump, often in excess of how the aquifers can recharge. Some of these water rights they are using date back to the 19th century. When the aquifers are overused, toxins or contaminated water will backfill into the aquifers, thus rendering them permanently unusable. It also lowers the water table, causing plants with deep roots to have a harder time getting enough water. I think this stresses trees, making them more susceptible to disease. The effects continue to cascade and we, the people, are the ones are paying the price.

For these very small commercial farms this is a devastating situation. In order to get those permits, very very costly changes have to be made that are probably unaffordable to many of those much NEEDED farms. If the state can find a situation to limit people’s water usage, they will. For Oregon to have a water shortage, especially where I live, it would take a major event. In my area we are waterlogged. Because Oregon cram packs many many people in certain areas, I can understand water concerns because so much is being used in those targeted overpopulated areas. But by in large, Oregon is a very very green state, but even so, the people who seem to ALWAYS get in office in Oregon, just LOVE to exert power and control over Oregons citizens and resources. Proof of that was in the Covid YEARS. And yet, Oregon has the worst managed forests due to the liberal idea of limiting any work on the forests that could curtail fires! It’s as though they’re saying, “don’t use the water citizens, because the forests will need it when they burn every year due to our lack of management.”

What a click bait, misleading title & premise: Your video is titled "The Truth About the Oregon Shutting Down Small Farms" yet you focus nearly exclusively on "non-commercial" uses of water. Oregon >IS< shutting down small farms. This isn't how it's gone since the early 1900's as you suggest. the bureaucracy has changed, recently and the technology they use to enforce (satellite imagery) is the difference. You say a couple times in the video that there are misleading videos and yours falls exactly in that category. Maybe title the video "Can you garden in Oregon".

As a realtor who makes a living selling land you kind of have a vested interest in minimizing this. And the water isn't the only issue. For one example if you have even a small amount of livestock like ten cows or a dozen or two of chickens you have to build very expensive containment facilities like a huge commercial farm would that a lot of people frankly can't afford.

The Oregon Dept of Arg/Water Mgmt has been using satellite technology to spie, regulate & control small farm usage, requiring permits & upgrades costing noncommercial small operations money they can't afford to spend, there's documented proof of several law suites against this & usage of satellite for spying on American Citizens by any government is a violation of the 4th amendment period

I have been listening to a knowledgeable person on this issue… & small farmers in Oregon are being shut down by laws, red tape,& financial burden by the state of Oregon !! From requiring concrete floors for one milk cow… to water resource rights !! Heard you are a real estate agent… I would suggest your industry lobbyist your state reps to reverse the war against small farmers !! We all have a vested interest to protect small, family farms… which provide locally grown food, & biodiversity which mono culture does not do !! I have family in Oregon…& have thought about buying land… but this fascism against farmers is not congruent with my needs !!

I'm a microfarmer so I'm signed up for notifications from the Oregon Water Resources Department (OWRD) and saw this information in a 6/12/2024 email: "The Department has been informed that the water right transaction process improvement legislative concept placeholder will not move forward to the 2025 session. This does not mean that concepts for water right transaction process improvements will not move forward, but rather if they do it will be via another bill vehicle that is not an OWRD pre-session filed bill. We will continue to work on concepts and evaluate where there are opportunities to move ideas forward. The Department is taking some time evaluate ideas received both internally and externally and will be reaching back out when more information is available." If you're interested in Oregon water use I'd encourage you to sign up for OWRD notifications. As I mentioned in another reply here, I'm not a fan of Oregon state government in any way, but/so it's a good idea to keep up with what they're doing in areas that affect me.

I can understand focusing on residential single family detached housing with 1/2 acre or less as a realtor. But the legislation regarding water use and livestock waste management affects a large swath of land owners in the one to 20 acre range that are still private family farms. The CAFO legislation (concentrated animal feeding operations) and the waste management requirements would affect even family farms with existing water rights. You’re unable to even keep livestock unless you have at least one acre.

Most of the videos I’ve seen complaining about these regulations are complaining that they can’t homestead, because they need more than 1/2 an acre which requires permitting. Or they may want to sell a few thousand dollars worth of fruits, vegetables, eggs, dairy, etc. to help make ends meet, are no longer able to make that economically viable because of the increase costs from the bureaucracy. I think you’re missing the point. You’re so focused on selling property that you aren’t seeing the way this affects people who aren’t your clients.

@@BuyingSouthernOregon I’ve seen a few videos about the permits and things increasing in expense. So yes, technically they still could keep using water like they have. The claims I’m hearing is that the economics have changed. The rules are more stringent and expensive to follow. So it makes small scale farming for any kind of profit impossible. This commenter says the know people in that situation. You simply reply “thats a lie” does either side have more convincing evidence than their anecdotes or opinions?

As a child growing up in Southern Oregon, I was frequently told "nobody owes you anything". Not water rights, not timber rights, not land, not any of it. I was taught life is "survival of the fittest, and dog eat dog. The strong eat the weak." Many of these crusty, back woods antigovernmental types sure do seem to feel a lot of entitlement. Crazy!

When you buy a property in Oregon it may or may not already have water rights. If not it is extremely difficult or impossible to get them. They dont like awarding them. If you do not have water rights you cannot irrigate crops for resale from your well. You can get huge tanks and have them filled, but you cant use the well water or stream water etc. If you are on a water system from the city or water company, you can do it, because you're paying for it I believe.

But the is alot of rain this year, the plants ate still going to grow, besides where is the fresh food going to come from china. They are shutting down small farms. A backyard garden for personal use is different. Small farms have to monitor, submit water measurements(usage, and level in well pipes, which usually means paying a third party), and to pay for this, every year. The state has decided to attack people with newer "water rights", restricting usage based off of some imaginary amount. You are trying to minimize the reality because of trying to sell real estate, quite the conflict of interest.
