I’ve had this lens for about 3 months now and I love it. I don’t notice the softness at 180mm like you are with your copy though. Either way - the size and weight were a huge factor of why I picked it up. On my A7iV - the autofocus has never failed me and I’m always happy with the images I get from it. Thanks for putting the video together Pav!

Interesting. At first, I thought that maybe I am doing something wrong, too slow shutter speeds etc. but then I have seen other reviews reporting it too. We are talking about softness so small that, adding extra sharpness in Lightroom will totally fix it. However it was there with the copy I was testing. Very good auto focus on my A7IV too. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Still rocking V1 and loving the small size. I shoot photos only with this lens.

V1 is still a great lens

Frankly, with the Tamron Lens Utility app, it can be said that neither Sigma nor Sony offer the level of functionality Tamron can. The latest additions of the digital follow focus program and Astro focus lock are game changers. The customizable limiter function is also simply brilliant.

Can you please advise, I can't make my mind between this lens the Tamron 70-180 g2 and the new Sony 70*200 F4 macro lens. I'm thinking to get the Sony but the F4 is making me hesitated as I do a lot portrait as well. But I like the idea of getting sony glass as it performs much better with Sony camera of course. How do you see it. Thanks so much for helping me out.🙏

Rent or try them both on your camera in the camera store. You should know instantly if there is anything that isn't just right for you .... then go for the other one

Good and thorough analysis as always but I'd like to share my experience with the V1.I borrowed the V1 to test last year for a indoor wushu competition but unfortunately, the focus was really not fast enough for that. It was light but felt slightly funny in hand on my A7 IV, probably a little bit unbalanced and likely exasperated by the external zoom as I had to shift my hand to find balance again whenever I zoomed.

I had no issues with auto focus with V1 and V2 on a7IV but I was not trying to shoot fast moving sports with them. Overall I think, this one especially, are way above average when it comes to optical quality and focus performance

Most lenses of the last 5 yrs have been very good. Now it's between the better and best. I find myself really doing my own pixel peeping if comparing 2 lenses. Otherwise, without zooming in to 300% it's hard to tell the difference.

Thank you for the good review. Just got the lens. Is it normal that you can hear the AF or image stabilisation when moving closer to the lens? I thought it's completely silent. Depending on the microphone sensitivity you might notice it in the video.... Or do I have to activate filming settings via the lens utility app?
@PavSZ19 күн бұрын
you can always hear those things, just a little. Unlikely that any on camera directional mic will pick it up but why would you need a mic on camera with a lens with this focal range?
@nikolas719 күн бұрын
@@PavSZ thx. Good question. Will create some test footage with high mic sensitivity. I guess with 70 mm a mic could make sense every now and then.?!

@@PavSZ Sigma 70-200 has the same audio noise when stabilizing or focusing? Or this is sounds better?

Is it true Sony Handicaps third party lenses like Tamron? The Nikon version looks just as good and they don't handicap the lens.

I don't think there Nikon version of this lens yet but yes, Tamron and Sigma giving the big boys run for their money

Sony is a shareholder in Tamron. Nikon released the first version of the Tamron 28-75mm under its own name when Sony already had the second version of the Tamron, at a much better price.
