Wedding tent or no wedding tent? Many destination wedding planning clients have the impression that a backyard wedding tent or a wedding tent on a private estate would save tons of money on the cost of their wedding. But does a wedding tent REALLY cost less than a wedding at a "turn-key" event venue? What kinds of things do you need to think about when planning a tent wedding? After ten years in the wedding planning industry, I have produced many events in turn-key venues, semi-turn-key venues, and of course wedding tents. I've learned a lot in my experience about the cost and logistics that go into each kind of wedding - find out why the cost of planning a wedding tent may surprise you!

I set up tented weddings nearly every other weekend throughout the year, and this overwhelmed even me. Rest assured, if you call an experienced tent company to have a tented wedding, they are going to take care of 90% of these concerns for you. This is all very helpful information, but brides and grooms, don't let this overwhelm you! Also, I would say that tent flooring is a heavy splurge and definitely not a requirement unless you are in a flood zone or on a hillside. This will cut the cost significantly.

If you're not going to have tent flooring, would you recommend to alert women who may want to wear heels?

@@noelmilleryoga5993 You could always do a quick walk around the proposed tent site in heels on a dry day and see if the ground is too soft for heels. The ground will stay dry under your tent, so I don't foresee any problems there, and I've never had someone complain about that before . You could also consider a walkway to your tent in case it does rain.

LOL this just crushed my dream of having my wedding at my grandmother's farm in Vermont. I totally thought I would save money by having a venue but it actually seems like more money. Both my partner and I will have way too much student debt to do this and I think we would rather spend that $$ on a house or honeymoon. Turn-key venue it is!

I’m glad you watched this video then! Many many many couples think a tented wedding will cost less. Turn key venues make much better financial sense when you are trying to stick to a specific number overall. Best of luck with your wedding planning!

I am converting my one acre back yard into a venue, adding many of the elements you mentioned in your video, it is alot of expenses and thought to bring it all together but once its built, it will be a great asset... We even purchased 3 smaller 20x30 tents so far and a bunch of tables and chairs and building a beautiful covered stage area ... Thanks for your insights..

Omg ! This just made me cry. My venue canceled and said they wont be having weddings this year so now we had to use the backyard for last minute. We thought it would be cheaper but it seems we thought wrong. I just wanna dye.

Try securing another venue. The tent situation sounds like an expensive plan B.

If your floor is level and you can use the house electric might still save you, a wedding planner walking through might really help figure that out

There might also be museums in your area that are very cool. My dream wedding is at a museum, partially because they are interesting and also because the guest would have something to do.

Turn-key venues never seemed more attractive! You share the costs of that venue with many others before and after you, and still you can totally present your own style.
