Hey guys! Hope you’re all doing well. Now for today’s video I wanted to talk about something that not too many people really know about. And that would be the weird and cryptic past of Jurassic Park’s creepiest dinosaur, the Troodon. Now the Troodon is a dino from the 2011 telltale game that I've seen a few theories on. Technically if we're talking about looking at these animals from a paleontology basis than in reality that dinosaur is technically a hybrid...but as far as in-canon and behind the scenes stuff goes it's a little more complicated than just saying that outright. Anyways hope you all enjoy the videos! :D

I've always liked the idea of the Dilo suddenly having venom and the frills under the idea that bringing back dinosaurs so casually means you'll have NO IDEA what they'll be like, because sometimes it'll be impossible to truly know everything about them. A great reflection of Ian's Chaos Theory arguments. I feel like the Troodon could fall into the same category, where if we only know them based on teeth, WHO KNOWS what they could really be like.

I’d say unintentional hybrid as InGen likely didn’t have a lot of knowledge on the materials used in the genome as seen with the Deinonychus Velociraptor controversy that was touched on in the novel as Tim said that Velociraptor was like Deinonychus while Grant represented the side of the argument that Deinonychus was the same as Velociraptor which we are led to believe is true in the book canon and Wu said that the parks raptors were Velociraptor Mongoliensis specifically even though they were closer to what we now call Deinonychus Antirrhopus.
@AzraelThanatos
@AzraelThanatos 4 жыл бұрын
Personally, I'd go with a non-hybrid, fictional/undiscovered species due to Sorkin's entire fucked up thing where she didn't like the dna manipulation that Wu was doing with the species in the park, claiming that it was the only one with a full genome there. It would go into the various JP dinosaurs into the universes dinosaurs, it follows things like the entire Velociraptors being a group name rather than something discarded by paleontology. It's another Troodon species.

The first time I played the game, I thought the Troodon a hybrid. Despite it’s name meaning “wounding tooth,” it didn’t live up to its meaning in the game. From the glowing eyes, I thought it an alien species since it was a mystery. As Wu said, “Nothing in Jurassic World is natural. We have always filled in the gaps with the DNA of other animals and if their genetic code was pure, many of them would look quite different, but you didn’t act for reality. You asked for more teeth.” This was a huge wake up call that would apply to all animals in the franchise and even if the franchise were ever reality, inaccuracies would still apply

I'd say that the Troodon in the game was what we could call the first "Unofficial Hybrid" My purpose for saying this is that when looking through the field guide in the game Dr.Sourkin (sorry if I pronounced it wrong) states that she guesses that the unhatched eggs were of that species. She doesn't mention that these were different from the actual species within the field guide. And that for it to be named after 2 species proves it further. The venom aspect of the creature always struck me as odd because the fossil record mentions no such thing with Troodon having or even producing such a product. My theory (And it's a long shot theory) is that the Pectinodon had special serrations in it's teeth much like with the Tyrannosaurus. These serrations had small spaces between them like little bowls. These "Bowls" contained a concentration of rotten flesh and bacteria, and when bitten the victimized animal had little chance of recovery. (which could be call prehistoric biological warfare) It may be possible that the Pectinodon had the same feature within it's own teeth. And so Ingen decided to test out what would happen when the two gene codes were spliced together. Not knowing what would happen, it seems clear now why Dr.Sourkin had no idea what these mysterious eggs were in the beginning. So in case of point, these Troodon's were Ingen's first unofficial hybrids. Which would also explain why they were never revealed to the public in the first place.

Also unlike many other animals that Dr Wu has created, Dr Sorkins has mixed the DNA and Genes of a regular Troodon and the animal Pectinodon and that’s why it looks different to its real life counterpart. She mentions this method of breeding dinosaur at the long tunnel part of the game.

Due to how it acts in its nesting habits somehow something I recall reading game to mind that put together makes this animal all forms of a Frankenstein horror story. Basically I recall someone answering the question “can you bring back dinosaurs from blood preserved in mosquitoes like in Jurassic Park? The science seems sound.” The response was- “not likely to impossible for several reasons. One, the dna is ancient and likely more in ruin that would be useful for cloning. But the worst thing is how contaminated with the mosquitoes dna it would be-” So when I first saw the JP Troodon and heard of how it breeds, them actually stating how oddly insect it was, it made me wonder if this animal was the product of something alongside the quoted answer I gave. That this dinosaur is in all sense a monster, part dinosaur and part insect. Kinda along the lines of the human fly or something. But that’s just a congealment of a few thoughts that hit upon my initial sight and viewing of this animal. Happy Halloween Klayton. And have a great afternoon!

Greetings Klayton, first time watcher and as of 5 minutes ago new subscriber. I have been a long time fan of Jurassic Park ever since I read the first book back in 1991 as well as being a fan of the game that Telltale gave us. That being said I would like to weigh in on whether or not the Troodon Pectinodon is a hybrid or dinosaur and I have a definitive answer for you. Due to the method in which the dinosaurs are genetically engineered using amphibian DNA to fill in the missing gaps in their genetic code as well as using modified ostrich eggs for the incubation period means that by scientific classification not only are the Troodon Pectinodon Hybrids by every definition of the word, so too are all of the "Dinosaurs" made by Ingen. Also on another note the changes to the appearance of dinosaurs such as the Dilophosaurus can also easily be explained by this cloning process. When plugging in a foriegn organisms DNA into another organisms genetic code it would cause a multitude of random variables that would result in altering not only the creatures appearance but also it's physiology in entirely unpredictable ways, such as in the case of the Dilophosaurus, causing the creature to be smaller in stature than its Jurassic ancestor as well as developing a colorful frill and a defense mechanism that enables it to produce a highly toxic saliva and the ability to "spit" it projectially much like some of the amphibious life you would find in Australia which were most likely used to fill in the missing code. Hope that helped explain a few things from a strictly scientific perspective. Keep up the awesome work!

My own headcannon, according to the info given, is possibly that InGen messed with the DNA like they did with all the other dinosaurs to fill in gaps in the damaged fossilized DNA and the result was that the creature was able to survive but ended up being so far from the animal in the fossil record due to splicing that they needed to give it a new genus name.

The first time I saw this dino , I have a big surprise the way that presented. And if we sas this is not the only venenous dinosaur in jp franchise, in some draws you found in internet, they named a dino that are venonous, that we count 4 venenous species that ingen bred... i think that is an interesting info. Great video, besr regards

Something I noticed that wasn't mentioned in the video was how these troodon had some very odd behavior in which mentioned in the game its self was " never witnessed" in dinosaur behavior just thought I would though that in there

I would like to see a Jurassic Park movie post-credits scene with the characters surrounded by troodons, and as it seems they will be torn to shreds one of the troodons says, "Are you Doctoralangrant? We were told to ask Doctoralangrant to save us."

I wish to see more of this dino as it hold promise of "proto hybrid" or even "hay we found a new dino by cloning" might see it again in books and maybe on a short, but not much hope in a movie. I enjoy these odd dinos in are fossil records as it makes the question "is this real or not" or for others "did a dino cross with another dino?"

My guess is that they may have unintentionally confused the two animal’s DNA due to their similarities and due to certain gaps being filled with the frog dna and whatnot caused some kind of reaction, creating a new mutant hybrid species. To put it bluntly, the chaos of the mixing DNA created something new.

Troodon: Jurassic Park's very own Xenomorphs. All they would need to do is combine those parasitic traits with the Indoraptor, and you'd basically have Alien with dinosaurs.

This to me feels more like a created fictional species just like the burrowing ´´Mole Raptors´´, they wanted to create something new yet believable as if it existed in the fossil record. That feels very jurassic, especially knowing the behind the scenes of the franchise, like the Indominus Rex originally being a fictional creature instead of a hybrid

how I interpret this is that, until jurasic world, the genetecists on the island really had no idea what they were doing and were just naming the results after the most similar species or the most popular species in the related familly. This serves to explain inacuracies across the franchise and serves to explain what the hell the Troodon is. Those suspicions you mentioned were not that they'd created a particular species but that dna from unrelated species had been unintentionally mixed together.

honestly i feel it can work as either but see it as a hybrid, since from day one, the stable clones were not pure, as u pointed out in the past, so could be it was one of their attempts at more elaborate hybrids before the tech had developed to be advanced enough to manipulate it in a controlled manner like the indominous was, as seems that the militaristic or weaponization of them had been a side plot in the background for some time, least prior to it's use on the bigscreen

I’ve always been a fan of the hybrid theory, but now knowing the wording in the field guide I’m leaning more towards it’s a fictional species

Maybe the name was given to them because of their similar appearance. In Sorkin’s notes she also wrote about the similarities between Torosaurus and Triceratops, and the Velociraptor-Deinonychus problem (even though it also mentioned Utahraptor which wasn’t discovered until after the movie). Since they didn’t know what the animals would be until after their birth, and since Pectinodon and Troodon are both similar in size and both have serrated teeth, they mixed the names because they didn’t know which one it was. The problem with the body structure can be explained in genetics. DNA decays the same way, after fossilization what you see in the DNA strand is all that’s left of the dinosaur, it’s skeletal structure. Then you add the DNA of other creatures to fill in the gaps, whether it’s frogs, birds, lizards, or Spider Wasps, and it can change the coloration of the creature, it’s physical and mental abilities, and even its muscle structure which can actually change how the creature itself looks. This can also be used to explain the discrepancies in the JP3 Spinosaurus

Just think: these beasts are part original dinosaur species, part other creatures. With this in mind, who else remembers the models built of what it’d look like if Troödon evolved into humanoid beings, and can you imagine how abjectly terrifying that’d be to see these specimens evolve into those things? The very thought of it makes my skin crawl.

Maybe InGen was unsure of what the species would be because either they accidentally mixed the DNA since they species were similar, so they were unsure which one it would be and combined the names when the animal they got showed both traits
