Brilliantly and perfectly balanced review. I’ve just put down a deposit for an OG M2. Engine is easily tunable to 420bhp and combined with that chassis and manual, it’s a no brainer. Love it.

You should do the bracing from m2c, it will make the front end handling a lot better. Forums will tell you the parts you need.

I’ll say my piece about the dct. I personally don’t think the dct detracts that much from the manual version. From driving both, I think the dct is almost as engaging without a lot of the effort needed from the manual. Why? The dct does not function like a torque converter automatic. It actually has a lot of the same characteristics you would typically find in a manual which I think is actually a turn off to a lot of less enthusiast minded people (see the change in the g-series). The dct in the m2 is very theatrical which I love and I wouldn’t have opted for an auto if it it were a torque converter. When going fast, the dct gives a very nice slam on your back when you upshift which I think adds a lot of character and theater. the downshifts are lightning quick and perfectly matched and that n55 sounds so nice. If you live in a very hilly city like me, the manual might be more trouble than it is worth. Of course, this could come off as a lot of cope lmao. TLDR, just drive both

Great review! I have a 2016 M2 Demo package fully loaded. M performance exhaust, catless down pipe, JB4 tune, VSRF charge pipe and Berger cold intake. I have logged 0-60 in 3.3 and feel thats very good for a few mods. Pure stage 2 turbo is only $2500 for another 100 hp putting it around 600 give or take a few hp. the n55b alos sounds better than the S55. The Comp OEM muffler hangs low and is horrible.

Thinking about trading in my civic and upgrading to a bmw m2 competition... I’ve never had a car payment but I think this is going to be worth it.

as someone who went from a f87 n55 m2 to a f80 s55 m3. the biggest change for me was the extra low end torque.

Crank hub affects the M2, M3, and the M4’s s55 engine. It’s also a topic that is blown out of proportion a tonn, don’t let that stop you from getting an M4. I just got one going on two months 😉

I just got a '21 model year M2 Comp. It's really pretty great. You know how it seems like there's always something -- cars, guitars, watches, whatever. But in this case there's not really anything, no letdowns. I just love the car, period, and that includes its usability as just my transportation. Northeast Winters will be another story, we'll see how that goes. And I'm sure you're right, i.e. that I'd have loved a non-Comp version just fine. Haven't even had the break-in service, so I don't even know what it can do, but I'm real good with it. I also agree that three pedals is the only way to fly.

Just picked up an 18 m2 after selling my F80 m3 and m235. I have to admit, the OG M2 is the best M car I’ve ever driven.

Cheapest used M2 in Australia is around $60k...

I just picked up a 2017 OG DCT M2 in Alpine white. It was an undamaged, one owner, full BMW service history from new and completely bone stock. $18,500 and not a single thing wrong with it. I am still pinching myself that I managed to get THIS much M at THAT price...

The S55 sucks. The N55 is the way to go! So much more fun! It sounds soooo good. Also, the OG M2 looks better and more agressive than the M2 Competition. You made a great choice man. Here in Europe it's a lot more expensive than in the US. $30k is a bargain wtf, the same price as a basic Clio here.

Currently contemplating an M2 in a couple years and the more I think about it the more my mind has changed from something like a C63 or RS5 to it.. but the M240i is as fast and 10k cheaper.. hmm will see what happens in two years I guess haha. Great video

2022 02 20 OG M2s, 6MT with 30k miles on it runs $50k. With 21 years of BMWs ownership, my M2 is the best car to date. It’s a modern E46 with all the upgrades but still old school in approach and fell without too much gimmicky electronics.

i also have an M2 and i also make video's about it and i like the original M2 the most its like they showed it to the press. it sounds the best, its easy to work on and its an engine they made a lot, sow no weird problems every M engine always had expensive problems. and it also rides better on the road. The comp version is better on the track

Another good one Jon. I'm a bit older than you, so your comment about crazy horsepower rings true. It's really difficult (on the road) to fully use the power of the N55 for more than a a few minutes at a time. Couple that with that gorgeous N55 growl and I just don't have a use for the Competition.

This guy is spot on. My input. I had a n55 for 3 years and over the 3 years I quite heavily modified it which personally for me I felt was a mistake. I am now in a m2 comp and in my opinion there is a night and day difference, however is the price jump worth it? I'd say yes if you can afford it then most definitely but the n55 is one hell of a car and you won't be disappointed with it. The dct seems to work better with the S55 also.

Thinking about getting an M2, my 328i is awesome for my affordability because I’m just a 19 year old but the M2 does seem like a monster build .

I am a little confused on what I want to do. Not too familiar with BMWs (I obviously know they are fun cars to drive and they have a large following), but I love their coupes the M2 and M4 (M2 more due to smaller size) and am thinking about trading in my current car for one, but not sure if I should got for the M2 Competition or a 2018 M2. People have said go with the newest car you can afford but many people say they prefer the N55 M2.

I have a 2017 M2 and my steering wheel is nothing like yours. You keep mentioning OG F87, what the heck is OG? Great video and I love my M2. I've had it at Sebring four or five times and it is a blast, actually better than a Porsche I had some time ago.

When I was looking to snag a new car after my S4 got totaled, I looked at M2’s and M4’s and ended up going with the M4. The M2 felt fun but the power was down for me, and the DCT with the S55 is insane...the N55 just sounds better lol

The problem with my M2 is I keep scraping my lip on the tarmac whenever I drive too fast on a back road that isn't 100% flat. Really painful to see my carbon lip getting destroyed everytime

People who say that the OG M2 "isn't a real M2" don't understand what M is about. It's about A) having the BMW M division have their crack at performance modifying the car (check!) B) it's about nimble handling (check!) C) it's about being connected to the road (moderate check, but as good as the Comp.) Fits all the check boxes! An M car has never been about an "S" engine, or the seats, or the winglet side mirrors. It's about an ethos rather than the superfluous. RE the N55 vs the S55: The acceleration between the OG M2 and the M2 Comp is almost identical, despite the M2 Comp having more HP/TQ. That's only possible if the weight is commensurately greater as well, which it is. If two cars have identical acceleration, I'll pick the lighter car every time. Lighter is better for cornering, stopping, nimbleness, weight distribution, etc. Signed, OG M2 Owner

yeah everyone talks about how well this car handles versus the m240 with the open diff (yes ik u can opt for the limited slip but those are harder to find) and rn my dilemma is next spring/summer i’d love to hop inna f22 but do i go with b58 and worse handling or beefed n55 and better handling cuz they not too far apart in price anymore

I just got a 2017 LCI 340i M sport xdrive 6spd in estoril blue with just about every option just waiting on the mppsk for the full bmw exhaust. I might just intake and dp with tune and then pick up the m2 OG for fun. I love the OG M2 and would probably do exactly what you have done. either in the panda combo or black ob black. I think the white and the black are the best m2OG colors imo. Either way keep up the great work man if you have email or something i could send you some progress pics myself. Also where did you get your seats, hood and headlights from?

20k more put a upgraded turbo kit and fueling upgrades for like 12k and you can make 650 wheel and have 8k for anything else you want lol.
